Wigan's derby dominance over Bolton continued as Dale Taylor and Thelo Aasgaard scored in Latics' 2-0 League One win at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Wigan's latest victory extended their nine-year unbeaten run over Wanderers to nine games.
Despite a disparity in their respective league positions, the visitors were good value for their first win in five league and cup outings.
They went ahead after 18 minutes as Aasgaard's pass played in Taylor who took his time before scoring with a low, left foot shot from 12 yards.
Wanderers, who began the day in seventh place, were booed off at half-time and could easily have been further behind.
Taylor was denied a second after 42 minutes by Nathan Baxter's save while Baba Adeeko could not force in the loose ball from close range.
Bolton marginally improved in the second half with Sam Tickle saving from Jordi Osei-Tutu.
But Wigan still carried an attacking threat. Baxter denied Aasgaard before the Norwegian doubled the away side's lead after 68th minutes.
Collecting substitute James Carragher's cross he netted his eighth goal of the campaign from the centre of the box to confirm victory.
