  2. What has Napoli chief said about Alejandro Garnacho?published at 12:38 British Summer Time 11 July

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport chief football news reporter

Some pretty spiky quotes from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis did the rounds yesterday when he was basically quoted as saying just being at Manchester United reduces a player's abilities.

It was in connection to Napoli's interest in United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

Yet Napoli countered by saying De Laurentis had not spoken to anyone about Garnacho and the quotes were incorrect.

Garnacho does need to find a club and while there are suggestions the Argentina international will return to Carrington, United sources say that would only be to use the club's medical and rehab facilities and nothing has changed in terms of Ruben Amorim's view of his future (or lack of it) at Old Trafford.

As an avid FM player, Sosa seems like a steal at £2m. He fits the Palace system perfectly and can deliver a great cross.

Assuming by FM you mean the classic computer game Football Manager. Blast from the past. The statisticians who put that game together rarely get a player wrong, so praise indeed for Sosa!

  4. Real Betis still hopeful of Antony deal with Man Utdpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 11 July

Real Betis returned for pre-season training on Wednesday - but there has still been no breakthrough in their efforts to sign Antony from Manchester United.

The winger remains in Brazil after being told by United he will not be part of first-team training sessions with the Old Trafford club.

United say Antony has told them he wants to leave and he has opted to remain in South America until his future is sorted out.

Betis want the £81.3m wideman, who remains the second most expensive player in United's history - back after his successful loan spell over the second half of last season. However, they have a budget they are refusing to shift on and negotiations with United continue.

Antony scored nine goals and claimed five assists as Betis qualified for this season's Europa League and reached the Conference League final, where they were beaten by Chelsea.

He is one of five players United are looking to get rid of, knowing any finance generated can be ploughed back into Ruben Amorim's squad.

United had hoped they would generate significant funds from these sales - for Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia as well as Antony.

Whether that becomes a reality remains to be seen.

We are going to move back to Morgan Gibbs-White's proposed £60m move from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham shortly.

Remember, the England midfielder is expected to undergo a medical with Spurs today.

Before we get back into that transfer, we have some Manchester United updates from BBC Sport's chief football news reporter Simon Stone...

  6. Sosa fee £2m - sourcepublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 11 July

We told you earlier that reports suggested the fee Crystal Palace have paid for new signing Borna Sosa was £3m.

But BBC Sport's football news reporter Alex Howell has had it confirmed by a source that Palace have only paid Ajax £2m for the Croatia wing-back.

A statement on the Ajax website, meanwhile, confirmed that the two clubs had "reached an agreement".

Ajax technical director Alex Kroes said: "After Borna's loan spell [with Torino] over the past half year, it became clear there was no future for him in Amsterdam. The fact that he can now continue his career at the highest level in England is, of course, fantastic. We wish him all the best and hope he succeeds there."

  8. 'I like games that go up and down' - Sosa on his attacking playing stylepublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 11 July

More from new Crystal Palace signing Borna Sosa, who has been speaking with Palace TV about his playing style:

“I’m a player who likes to attack, to bring crosses, to make a lot of actions,” said the Croatia wing-back.

“I like games that go up and down, with lots of things going on."

Sosa says he is looking forward to experiencing the Premier League, having already played in the Croatian, German, Dutch and Italian top flight.

"I think everybody agrees it is the best league in the world. With so many exciting and good games.

"So, I'm looking forward to the speed of the matches. I want to see how it really looks like because it feels, when you watch on television, that every game is like a show."

And he shed light on discussions with Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who was manager of Wolfsburg and Frankfurt during his time playing for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.

"I played against him many, many times. He's a really, really good person and I had really good and positive conversations with him before I came here.

"Actually, we spoke for around an hour and already were talking about some tactical and technical stuff. He is really into football, 100% and you can feel it from the beginning."

Good to see Palace have signed a left back to compete with Mitchell. However, it seems our wider transfer strategy is being delayed by Uefa's slowness to make a decision on our Europa League participation. 10. Sosa will be 'fantastic fit' - Parishpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 11 July

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish told the club website that latest signing Borna Sosa would add depth to manager Oliver Glasner's squad.

Sosa played in five of Croatia's seven games at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, helping them to reach the semi-finals.

“We believe Borna will be a fantastic fit for Crystal Palace," said Parish. "His credentials speak for themselves, and his arrival adds additional quality, experience and depth to our squad.”

Sosa won a league and cup double with hometown club Dinamo Zagreb before going on to make a real impact in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart.

He weighed in with 35 assists and five goals in 115 matches with the German outfit, before moving to Ajax in 2023.

The Croatian played 25 times for the Dutch giants, and a further 20 matches for Serie A side Torino during a loan spell last season.

    Crystal Palace

Croatia defender Borna Sosa, who has scored two goals in 26 appearances for his country, plays predominantly as a left-sided wing-back and will provide competition for Crystal Palace's England Tyrick Mitchell as the club prepares to juggle domestic and European football for the first time.

“I'm very excited to join Crystal Palace," Sosa told the club website. "I've heard so many good things about the club. I cannot wait to meet the players, the staff, and all of the fans, because I've heard so many good things. I'm very, very excited to be here.”

  14. Tottenham trigger Gibbs-White's £60m release clause amid Man City interestpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 11 July

Tottenham's pursuit of Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White has been made considerably easier due to the fact they triggered his £60m release clause.

Gibbs-White had been a player on the radar of Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola's side cooled their interest in the England playmaker ahead of Tottenham's bid to sign him.

The move will be for a club-record amount in terms of initial fees from Spurs and shows a statement of intent from Tottenham following their return to Champions League football.

Is Morgan Gibbs-White pushing to leave Forest? Can't help but feel sorry for their fans, excited by Europe and squad ripped apart, not only is Elanga and MGW going bad in general, but who’s to say replacements will help keep Wood firing! Even if he has a release clause of £60m, it’s only triggered if paid in full. If Spurs want instalments, Forest can still say no! This is why it’s hard for clubs to really break into higher spots, one great season and the vultures rip them apart.

  16. How would Gibbs-White and Kudus compare to Tottenham's record signingspublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 11 July

Mohammed Kudus looks onImage source, Getty Images

If Tottenham complete a move to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, it would see them break their transfer record in terms of guaranteed fees.

Gibbs-White's move, should it be completed, will be for £60m.

Dominic Solanke, Tanguy Ndombele and Richarlison all completed moves to Spurs totalling £60m or more, but part of those fees for all three includes add-ons with their guaranteed fees below £60m.

Kudus also ranks high on Spurs' all-time record signings list, having purchased him from London rivals West Ham for £55m on Thursday.

Tottenham's all-time record signings (initial fees only)

    1. Tanguy Ndombele (£55.45m)
    2. Dominic Solanke (£55m)
    3. Mohammed Kudus (£55m)

As a Spurs fan, I was really excited by what is happening at our club. Frank appointment and the change to the backroom staff is a long overdue, huge leap forward in approach. But to land MGW is amazing. A fantastic player and adds creativity and bite to our midfield, which we seriously lack. Now just need to get Warton from Palace, and we have the making of a very good team indeed.

  18. Tottenham's double signing - 24 hours in N17published at 10:27 British Summer Time 11 July

Tottenham's biggest signing of the summer had been the completion of a permanent move for young French forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich for £30m, with Tel spending the second half of last season on loan in north London.

From that, Tottenham almost doubled their summer spending in one move when signing forward Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55m, making him the first player to swap the Hammers for Spurs since Scott Parker in 2011.

From there, Spurs also triggered the £60m release clause to sign Nottingham Forest and England playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White, a move that until Thursday had not been expected by many.

Should the signing of Gibbs-White go through, it would take Spurs' post-season spending north of £180m following other deals for Kevin Danso, Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic.

The arrivals of Kudus and Gibbs-White, should the latter go through, will leave new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank with plenty of firepower at their disposal.
