"It's a pleasure to be here, and I cannot wait to get started," Ivory Coast winger Simon Adingra told Sunderland's website after sealing a £21m move from Brighton to the Stadium of Light on Thursday.

"The club and the project are really exciting. I spoke with everyone and their interest in me made the decision easy - I wanted to be part of Sunderland's future.

"Playing in the Premier League has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, so to continue doing that is incredible. It's a big challenge ahead – we'll be facing top players and strong opponents - but I'm ready for it."

Adingra made 29 Premier League appearances last season, scoring twice and adding two assists.

He was part of Ivory Coast's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations win and provided both assists in a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final, resulting in being named best young player at the tournament.

The signing is Sunderland's sixth of the summer as they prepare for their first season back in the Premier League since 2016-17, joining Enzo le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, and Chemsdine Talbi.

Meanwhile, across north London, Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal with Chelsea to sign winger Noni Madueke for just over £50m.

BBC Sport previously reported that the England international had agreed personal terms with Madueke before a potential move across London.

And the clubs have now reached an agreement in principle over a fee, with the finer details needing to be finalised.

Madueke, 23, is currently part of Chelsea's squad at the Club World Cup and came on as a substitute as the Blues reached the final of the competition after beating Brazilian side Fluminense 2-0.

He has played 92 times for Chelsea since joining them from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and scored 20 goals.

Madueke was in Tottenham's academy before spending four and a half years in the Netherlands.

So what do we know about Tottenham's swoop for Morgan Gibbs-White?

We know that the Nottingham Forest midfielder is due to have a medical at Tottenham today [Friday] before completing a £60m move.

BBC Sport understands that the 25-year-old has a £60m release clause, which Spurs are set to trigger and hope to complete the formalities of his transfer in the next 24 hours.

Gibbs-White, who has four England caps, was on Manchester City's radar this summer but Pep Guardiola's side have cooled their interest.

He scored seven goals and added eight assists in 34 Premier League games last season, and has attracted interest from a number of England's top clubs in recent months, but Spurs have stepped up their efforts to sign him.

Gibbs-White joined Forest from Wolves for a then club-record fee of £25m plus add-ons in August 2022, on a five-year deal. He has made 118 appearances in three years at Forest, scoring 18 goals and providing 28 assists.
