Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka is in talks about joining Bundesliga club Augsburg on a season-long loan.

The Nigeria international, 26, has been frustrated with his fringe role in west London and is keen to earn more minutes away from the club on loan.

But Brentford also still regard Onyeka highly amid competition in their midfield and a loan move is increasingly becoming an option.

Augsburg seem the most viable option after Valencia fell away when closing in on a move for Aston Villa's Enzo Barrenechea instead.

  8. Wolves comfortable with defensive options after Aguerd snubpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 30 August

Wolves remain in the market for a centre-back but that will not be West Ham's Nayef Aguerd.

There was interest from Molineux in the defender, who cost the Hammers' £28m from Rennes two years ago, but he rejected them earlier in the week.

It did at least allow Wolves to move on long before deadline day and Aston Villa's Diego Carlos has been one under consideration but he is expected to stay at Villa Park, with the club having rejected an offer from Fulham earlier this month.

Wolves, though, are content with their defensive options if they are unable to bring a centre-back, to follow Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, and are poised to seal a move for Fluminense's Brazil midfielder Andre.

Awkward transfer window for Newcastle this one. I think missing out on Tosin wasn’t part of the plan. I don’t care who comes in, our best signings will be keeping hold of Bruno, Isak and Gordon, regardless of any other activity.

Brentford have agreed a fee with Southampton for teenage defender Jayden Meghoma.

The 18-year-old England youth international has already completed a medical in west London ahead of a move on a four-year deal.

Meghoma is a highly regarded young talent but had just one year left on his deal at St Mary’s before agreeing on a move.

He has made made four senior appearances in the cup competitions at Saints but is yet to play an English league match.

Brentford, meanwhile, have selection problems at full-back with Scotland international Aaron Hickey ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury and Rico Henry having yet made his comeback from a serious knee injury.

  11. Which teams are which pots?published at 12:16 British Summer Time 30 August

The Europa League draw will see teams in four different pots, with nine teams in each. Their placement has been determined by Uefa ranking.

Each team will face two teams from each pot, one at home and one away.

A team will be drawn out of a pot and then Uefa's software will decide their eight opponents - and whether they will be at home or away. It means more matches between the biggest teams.

The software stops teams playing rivals from their own country - and means each team can only play two clubs from any one country.

Uefa says the computer system plans ahead so will ensure no teams further down the line get drawn against teams they cannot face.

Dates and kick-off times will then be confirmed by Uefa tomorrow.

But who is in which pot? Here they are:

Pot 1: Roma, Manchester United, Porto, Ajax, Rangers, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Tottenham, Slavia Prague

Pot 2: Real Sociedad, AZ Alkmaar, Braga, Olympiakos, Lyon, PAOK, Fenerbahce, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ferencvaros

Pot 3: Qarabag, Galatasaray, Viktoria Plzen, Bodo/Glimt, Union SG, Dynamo Kyiv, Ludogorets, Midtjylland, Malmo

Pot 4: Athletic Club, Hoffenheim, Nice, Anderlecht, Twente, Besiktas, FK RFS, Steaua Bucharest, Elfsborg

  12. Slot can afford to play it coolpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 30 August

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

New Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said in his news conference this morning that he was very comfortable with the club's position on transfers during the summer window, despite only one new face coming in to join the squad this season in Juventus' Italy forward Federico Chiesa (pictured below).

Slot was in the enviable position of inheriting a high-class squad from Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool's two opening victories in the Premier League have hinted at the quality he has at his disposal, even without major moves in the markets.

Liverpool are adopting a well-tried strategy of refusing to accept second best on their targets, as they did when initial attempts to buy Virgil van Dijk from Southampton faltered, so there was no panic when Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi decided to stay at Real Sociedad.

Slot said Liverpool are still open to opportunities on deadline day, but he has every right to be satisfied with what he already has until the right player becomes available.

  13. What is the new Europa League format?published at 12:07 British Summer Time 30 August

Last season teams would be put into eight separate groups, play one another and two clubs would progress to the knock-out stage.

This season all 36 teams will be put into one league table. Each club will play eight opponents in the initial stage of the competition - determined by which pot they are put in in the draw.

The top eight in the league table will progress to the knockout rounds. Then the teams who finish from ninth-24th play in a knock-out play-off round and 25th to 36th will be knocked out of the tournament.

The format is also being used for the Champions League and the Europa Conference League.

James Ward-Prowse is due for a medical at Nottingham Forest after they agreed a loan deal with West Ham.

It is a straight loan for the season, with no option or obligation to buy, with the midfielder currently travelling to Nottingham.

The 29-year-old only joined the Hammers from Southampton for £30m last summer but does not feature in new manager Julen Lopetegui's plans.

Benfica defender Morato is also poised to move to the City Ground in a deal worth around 15m euros (£12.6m).

The 23-year-old Brazilian has made 78 appearances for Benfica, with Forest currently working on the deal.

Manchester United desperately need an established striker to complement Hojlund and Zirkzee. Surely Calvert-Lewin is worth a punt? Would be very cheap considering the last 12 months of his contract and Everton's current position.

  17. Deadline Day: What's the latest?published at 11:58 British Summer Time 30 August

Let's take a look back at the most recent transfers as that looming deadline draws closer...

So far it's been a busy morning of transfers, stick around as we gear up for all the afternoon's announcements.

  18. Fan views on Man Utd transferspublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 30 August

Raheem Sterling and Jadon SanchoImage source, Getty Images

Robert: United definitely need another striker. The Brighton game showed that when Hojlund is not available we just can't put games to bed. Even when he is available, he is still learning his trade. Symptom of poor planning for many years.

Sam: We need the Sterling-Sancho deal through. Jadon won't play any better if he's still got the tension with Ten Hag. He's better than Antony and Rashford and we do need a winger with a name for himself.

Christopher: It is the same old issue at United. Whoever is in charge, it is a question of whose team is this? It has been created by many minds and mindsets and no set system of play or philosophy is in place. We can buy whoever but until a strong manager is in place no purchase will be relevant.

Sharky: I am really pleased with the transfers United have made so far this season - especially once Ugarte is complete. I would also like to see a new striker like Ivan Toney because I still see goalscoring a problem area. I believe this squad could then takes us back into the Champions League and possibly another cup win.

  19. McTominay can give Napoli a 'box-to-box presence'published at 11:50 British Summer Time 30 August

Scott McTominay celebrates scoring for Manchester UnitedImage source, Getty Images

Another Manchester United player thought to be close to leaving Old Trafford is Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay, who has been linked with a move to Napoli.

European football writer James Horncastle told Football Daily on BBC Sounds that it is thought McTominay would give the Serie A side a "box-to-box presence".

"Antonio Conte clearly really wanted him," Horncastle said on the Euro Leagues podcast.

"Conte clearly sees Scott McTominay as someone who can give their midfield some box-to-box presence. I think he scored seven goals in the league last year.

"Conte has always liked players like Artudo Vidal, Claudio Marchisio, players who can get into the box and make those third-man runs, as well as having the athleticism and physicality to play at the intensity he wants."
