This will be the first league meeting between Charlton and Reading since July 2020 in the Championship (1-0 Reading win), and first in the third tier since the Addicks completed a league double over the Royals in 1980-81.
Reading have won three of their last four league visits to Charlton (L1), including both of their last two (4-3 in 2015-16, 1-0 in 2019-20). The Royals have never won three in a row away to the Addicks in their league history.
Charlton are unbeaten in their last six league matches (W3 D3), with five of those coming under current boss Michael Appleton (W2 D3). The last time they had a longer unbeaten run in league competition was in March-April 2021 (a run of 10).
Reading have lost their last two games in League One (v Northampton and Leyton Orient), while they haven’t lost three in a row outside of English football’s top two tiers since October 1999 (3).
