David Moyes' Everton will feel they could have taken three points from this game, but they lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.

West Ham's poor marking in the box allowed Keane the space to score his opener but otherwise the home side could not turn neat football - with Grealish at the heart of it - into clear-cut chances.

The England midfielder was particularly adept at winning fouls - five in total - in dangerous areas and Everton were often threatening from the resulting set-pieces.

They managed 12 shots, six of which hit the target, but few of those did much to test West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

The draw means Everton are winless in their past three league games but there was enough spark in this performance to encourage Moyes before a tough home game against in-form Crystal Palace and then a trip to Manchester City.

Everton dominated the possession and looked dangerous in the first half. Set-pieces are something that Everton are really good at, whether that's attacking or defending, so it's no surprise their goal came from a set-piece.

They should've been out of sight after their first half performance. West Ham's confidence would've been really low if there had been a second goal, but that second half performance would've been disappointing for David Moyes.

He will feel that his side should've taken three points.

Everton fan here! I think in hindsight West Ham are much improved. We may have been expected to win, but I'll take a draw given how they played. I'm a bit worried about Beto, he looked fairly lost or even surprised when he ended up with the ball.

Everton kind of came off the boil in the second half but, credit where it's due, the West Ham players looked like they were having fun for once. Having a positive attitude around in Nuno may help their self-belief. It'll be interesting to see his playing style come to fruition.

  11. Positives for Nuno’s Hammerspublished at 09:30 BST

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

There were some encouraging signs for West Ham in their first game under Nuno Espirito Santo last night.

The Londoners had 29 touches in the opposition box, their highest total in a Premier League match this season.

Meanwhile, they allowed their opponents an expected goals total of just 0.72, the Hammers’ lowest figure of the campaign.

But a familiar weakness was exposed yet again, with West Ham conceding from a corner for the eighth time already in 2025-26.

Incredibly, that is five more than any other side. Michael Keane’s header was classified by Opta as a set-piece goal since it came from a second-phase delivery into the box.

  12. West Ham do not like cornerspublished at 09:25 BST

    Everton 1-1 West Ham

    Ben Ramsdale

If Nuno is to turn it around, he will need to address West Ham's corner problem.

The Hammers have conceded eight goals from corners in the Premier League this season, as many as they did in the whole of 2024-25.

Their seven conceded goals are also the most conceded by any side in this year's Premier League so far.

At least they don't play Arsenal next. Oh, wait...

  13. Can Nuno turn it around?published at 09:20 BST

Will Nuno be giving us the double thumbs up come May? He's taking charge of a club who have finished in the top 10 three times in the last five years - and won a European trophy - but who have also dropped into the bottom half of the table in 14th place twice.

It's great to see the impact Nuno has had already. Managers who 'play the right way' - for example Potter, Ange, Martin and Amorim - are awful coaches and are imposters of Guardiola's style. Fortunately the league tables back this up. Surely it is all about winning?

Solid start from Nuno. Have high hopes for the future. Feels like we have a grown-up in charge.

    Roger, Olympic Park

It'll be a long journey for Nuno. He must know that this will be a marathon, not a sprint, to get West Ham back to the level they were a few years ago. He has the players, he just needs to find a way to rekindle that spark again - something he is very good at.

West Ham's Player of the Match, Crysencio Summerville, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think it's always tricky when things like this happen and I think the boys did a really good job today to focus on the game, and I'm happy with the point we took here.

"I think the team knows me and Jarrod on the side, just give us the ball and we try our magic, so we tried to do that today, and we went 1-0 down and we stayed in the game and our guy [Jarrod Bowen], happy with the goal, so very, very happy."

On what the manager tried to implement today: "He didn't change a lot. He's been here for two days. I think we enjoyed ourselves today and I think we're going to build on this and we go on Saturday.

"I'm grateful to be back on the pitch playing and I want to show the fans and the people what I'm capable of and try to do that. I just enjoy every minute now."

It wasn't a great performance but if you were a West Ham fan that travelled up and saw that second-half performance, you would be really encouraged by it.

There was spirit, determination and fight - which is something they haven't really seen this season.

The performance from [Crysencio] Summerville and [El Hadji Malick] Diouf on the left-hand side was really exciting, they brought great pace.

Summerville has been a huge miss because he's been injured. He's a big player that fans enjoy to watch because he gets people off their seats.

Jarrod Bowen did what he does every week, putting in so much effort and desire which got him another goal. But there are other players who will have to step up.

West Ham captain and goalscorer Jarrod Bowen, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a big point for us, I think we had chances to win the game. I think they had chances as well, so on reflection probably a fair result.

"It speaks to the character of the team, going down 1-0, and we said at half-time it's only one goal, whether it takes us until 90 minutes, 95 minutes, and we knew we'd get our chances.

"And in the end, we defended well when they were pushing for a winner, and we were as well. Not a bad result."
