What could a club possibly do that would warrant such criticism as "shameful", "a total disgrace" and "tramples on the dreams and the effort of youth players".

The answer? Stick a Youtuber up front in a top-flight match.

Argentine side Deportivo Riestra have been accused of showing a "lack of respect towards football" after selecting Ivan Buhajeruk, better known as Spreen, at home to Primera Division leaders Velez Sarsfield on Monday.

How long did the 24-year-old's appearance last? Less than a minute of the 1-1 draw.

Buhajeruk has no professional football experience but was given a professional contract by the Buenos Aires club in February.

He has more than seven million subscribers on Youtube and advertises an energy drink that is also Riestra's shirt sponsor.

The Argentine Football Association said it has launched an investigation as the stunt may have breached its code of ethics.

    Brentford are great to watch.

They lost Ivan Toney and you'd have thought how they were going to replace him in terms of leading the line and finding those goals. But Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo have been phenomenal for them.

Looking at the teams they've beaten, they've beaten teams in the bottom places of the Premier League. So there will definitely be tougher tests to come for them.

But having said that, if you are a Brentford fan, considering where they were a few years ago and now, they are in heaven watching their team.

At an hour-long Fans Forum at the Coventry Building Society Arena, King faced some searching questions from impassioned supporters and stated the club had received a number of applications with the next appointment being "very important".

In a separate interview with Sky Sports, King revealed that former Chelsea and England great Lampard had applied for the position.

"We've received a huge amount of CVs from high quality people, of which Frank is one," King said.

  9. England players have pulled out in numbers beforepublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November

    Alex Howell
BBC football news reporter at St George’s Park

The news that eight England senior players pulled out of the squad yesterday has been met with a mixed reaction.

Some have said that the players who may have injuries are justified to pull out whilst others believe some players don't feel the same obligation to join up as new boss Thomas Tuchel doesn't start until January.

The FA have pointed out that there were six withdrawals from the squad in November last year which was six months before the Euros in Germany.

During the international camp in November 2021, eight players to withdrew. However, that did not happen in one go but that many left over the course of the camp.

Cole Palmer was a beneficiary of pull outs in November last year and he's had an immediate impact on the senior squad. Maybe Morgan Rogers or Lewis Hall can do the same this time.

Crystal Palace do worry me with their new brand of football. They are struggling and I wonder what happens next if they carry on that poor run.

Oliver Glasner has been brought in for attacking football, but they can't score a goal at the moment. They are underperforming and there is a real nervousness around the place because of their start to the season.

We have for years talked about them being a stable club and wanting to take the next step. You can argue that the next step has been a backward one this season.

There will be a bit of panic in the Palace ranks at this point of time.

  11. FA launch own investigation into Coote videopublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

The Football Association has launched its own investigation into the video that appears to show Premier League referee David Coote using foul language to describe former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Coote has already been suspended by PGMOL pending a full investigation and BBC Sport has also been told the 42-year-old has been withdrawn from an international commitment this week.

However, the nature of Coote’s alleged comments are also attracting the attention of the FA.

Coote uses Klopp’s nationality to preface one of his comments and FA rules state nationality is one of the references that can lead to an aggravated breach of their rules.

“We are aware of the matter, and we are investigating it,” said the FA in a statement.

Fabian Hurzeler's appointment was itself incredibly brave from Brighton. It wasn't that long ago that English football wouldn't have been ready for a top 10 Premier League club appointing a 31-year-old manager.

He needed a good start, because it would've been difficult for him if Brighton got off to a rocky start. He got St Pauli promoted in Germany, but that was the extent of his experience really.

He wasn't like Roberto De Zerbi, who had managed in the Champions League before he came in. Hurzeler hadn't managed at a top level and was unusually young.

He's had a lot of support from Brighton and they have spend a lot of money - most of it on young talents from unusual places often.

Brighton are a brilliantly run club, aren't they. They've got some older players like Danny Welbeck, Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster and Jason Steele, but the bench they had against Manchester City was so strong.

You look at the age and sell-on values of players like Brajan Gruda, Joao Pedro, Carlos Baleba, Matt O'Riley and Evan Ferguson, and you know they are well run.

Fabian Hurzeler is also a quick learner. They are not one-trick ponies. They dominate some games, but are also happy to sit back and counter, like they did against Newcastle United.

It wasn't an unbelievable surprise that they beat City, because they are an outstanding team.

  15. 'Scrutiny will be on Amorim'published at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November

The scrutiny is going to be on Ruben Amorim in those early games.

Ipswich Town away is a good fixture but it's going to be a nightmare fixture if they can't get the result.

They will have to create an identify. You'll have to see how quickly he can implement that 3-4-3 that everyone is talking about.

There does need to be a lot of patience. There will be plenty of bumps on the road. It's still fundamentally the same group of players who weren't good enough for Erik ten Hag.

  16. 'Van Nistelrooy put an end to United chaos'published at 13:52 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November

    Rory Smith

Ruud van Nistelrooy came in as an assistant in the summer, with the sense that if it all went wrong for Erik ten Hag, he takes the Manchester United job for a while. He did a good job as the interim manager, but then he immediately leaves, which is a bit weird.

But I think it's done him quite a favour. He has immediately put a stop to all the chaos. He has made United look like a well-ordered team again. He's shown there's plenty of talent in that squad.

If you are big club in Spain, Germany or even the Premier League and a managerial vacancy comes up, his name would be slightly higher up the list than otherwise.

  17. Man Utd's Malacia finally ready to returnpublished at 13:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November

Huddersfield v Man Utd (19:45 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Seventeen months since he last played a competitive game, Manchester United full-back Tyrell Malacia could return in an EFL Trophy group game at Huddersfield this evening.

Malacia featured in the 2023 Nations League final, when he came on as substitute in the Netherlands' defeat by Croatia.

Since then, he has struggled to recover from a serious knee problem, that initially required surgery before the £13m signing from Feyenoord suffered a setback which scuppered plans to return early this year.

Malacia's absence was part of the reason why former boss Erik ten Hag went so long without a recognised left-back.

It is not thought new United boss Ruben Amorim will make the trip to West Yorkshire to see Malacia in action but he will be keen to get a fitness report.

  18. A tight Premier League tablepublished at 13:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November

In the final international break of 2024, Liverpool currently have a five point gap over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

City, in second, are then four points clear of third place, but after that, the table becomes very tight.

Between Chelsea in third and Manchester United in 13th, just four points separate 11 clubs, with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Brighton, Fulham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Brentford and Bournemouth being the sides to fall in that cluster.

I think Manchester City will sign a couple of players in January. This squad look quite short, especially with the injuries.

You can see them getting certainly a midfielder, maybe another one as well.

Most clubs do not like to buy in January because the value is not there. It tends to be the clubs who need players, rather than want them, who do business in January.

City might need players, particularly with Rodri injured. They might think they want to go and get someone.

  20. 'City will need to transition at some point'published at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November

Manchester City will need to transition at some point.

They've got a few key players who've played a lot of football and getting towards that point where you need to think whether you need to upgrade them for someone maybe not better, but younger.

Ruben Dias is heading towards 30. Rodri is. Ilkay Gundogan was a stop-gap signing in the summer. There will be questions around Kevin De Bruyne at some point.

They've still got 10 out of 11 players who have been there for most of the title wins. Savinho maybe the exception.
