    So once again, an England squad is decimated by injuries just a few days before some frankly meaningless internationals. It is difficult to blame clubs for withdrawing players who might well figure for them in a league game especially when they have a lot of injuries already but at the same time we need our best team to represent the country. As a Villa fan I am pleased to see Morgan Rogers called up, but at the same time I worry about injuries. The solution has to be less football so that we are able to put out our best team more often in internationals and for the clubs we pay money to support. Scrapping this ridiculous extra international competition and making the League Cup just for Championship and lower would be a start.

    On Monday night, eight players from Lee Carsley's latest England squad withdrew, while five players were added.

    Here is the 23-man squad for the two Uefa Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

    Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), James Trafford (Burnley).

    Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny has been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for the first time for the forthcoming Nations League double-header against Belarus and Luxembourg.

    His addition to manager Michael O'Neill's group completes a memorable couple of days for the 21-year-old after he made his Premier League debut for Palace against Fulham at the weekend.

    The Scotland-born player, who qualifies for Northern Ireland through his mother, played from the start in his club's 2-0 defeat by Fulham at Selhurst Park on Saturday before being substituted after 74 minutes.

    Devenny was a regular for Northern Ireland's under-21 team during their recent European Championship qualifying campaign and comes highly recommended by their manager Tommy Wright.

    Striker Kieffer Moore has been ruled out of Wales' Nations League games against Turkey and Iceland this month.

    Sheffield United forward Moore, 32, is one of three withdrawals from head coach Craig Bellamy's squad.

    Ipswich Town winger Wes Burns and defender Owen Beck, on loan at Blackburn Rovers from Liverpool, will also be absent.

    They have been replaced by Coventry City defender Jay da Silva, Reading midfielder Charlie Savage and uncapped striker Luke Harris, who is on loan at League One high flyers Birmingham City from Premier League side Fulham.

    Captain Seamus Coleman has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's Nations League fixtures with Finland and England.

    Norwich City defender Shane Duffy and Celtic forward Adam Idah have also withdrawn from Heimir Hallgrímsson's squad.

    Wolves' Matt Doherty has been recalled as cover while Everton's Jake O'Brien and Southampton's Ryan Manning are also drafted in.

    The Republic host Finland on Thursday and take on England at Wembley in their final Nations League fixture on Sunday, 17 November.

    Broadcaster Gary Lineker is to step down as host of flagship football programme Match of the Day at the end of this season, BBC News understands.

    His departure is expected to be announced officially by the BBC on Tuesday.

    The Sun, who first reported the story, external, external, also said the presenter would leave the BBC after leading coverage of the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

    Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United after not being given a role in new manager Ruben Amorim's backroom staff.

    The 48-year-old Dutchman took over at Old Trafford on an interim basis after compatriot Erik ten Hag was sacked.

    Van Nistelrooy, who joined United as an assistant coach in July on a two-year deal, managed three victories and a draw in his four games during his time as caretaker boss.

    However, Amorim has decided against retaining the services of former Netherlands striker Van Nistelrooy, who spent five seasons at United as a player.

    "Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend," the club said in a statement which confirmed Van Nistelrooy's exit.

    Premier League referee David Coote has been suspended after a video allegedly showing him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and the club's former manager Jurgen Klopp was circulated on social media.

    Refereeing body PGMOL says the suspension comes into force with immediate effect and is pending a full investigation.

    The video, widely shared on social media, has not been verified by the BBC. It is unclear when it was filmed or its authenticity.

    A source told the BBC that PGMOL's inquiry is treating the video as genuine.

    Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers has been called up to England's squad for November’s Nations League internationals after eight players withdrew through injury.

    West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite along with Newcastle full-back Tino Livramento and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford have also been added to interim boss Lee Carsley’s squad.

    Chelsea pair Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer, Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, Manchester City midfielders Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Southampton's Aaron Ramsdale have all pulled out.

    England face Greece on 14 November and the Republic of Ireland on 17 November.
