Luke Armstrong and Ethan Robson ensured relegated Carlisle started life in the National League with a 2-0 victory at Woking.

Goalkeeper Craig Ross kept the home team in the game during a first half in which both sides had goals disallowed, Chinwike Okoli's effort for the hosts being ruled out for offside and Harvey Macadam's for the Cumbrians for a foul.

Ross clawed away Regan Linney's 15th-minute curler and then kept out Aaron Hayden's header from an Elliot Embleton corner as the visitors pressed for the opener.

However, he was finally beaten 12 minutes after the restart when Jack Ellis played in Armstrong and he made no mistake.

The points were secured nine minutes from time when substitute Robson dispatched a fine free-kick to hand manager Mark Hughes an opening-day win.
