Well, that's us for tonight and a fine evening of entertainment to kickstart our EFL weekend.

Exeter City can watch on comfortably on Saturday knowing they've done their job, not only picking up three points but also setting a club record six clean sheets in a row in all competitions.

Shrewsbury Town, not so much. They now have the worst defensive record in League One and could slip to 22nd if Crawley can get a win away at Reading.

A lot to ponder for Paul Hurst, while Gary Caldwell can sit back and relax after a successful 100th match in charge of the club - well, until Monday morning's training session.

We've also got two more games coming for you tomorrow night that you don't want to miss - and we will of course be bringing you live coverage from them.

Leeds United take on Sheffield United in a huge Yorkshire derby at the top of the Championship and in League Two, Newport welcome Chesterfield.

Shrewsbury have now lost 11 of their last 16 EFL matches at home with just the victory against Leyton Orient so far at Croud Meadow this season.

Manager Paul Hurst has told Sky Sports: "I am happy with some parts of the game but we know it's about results.

"I thought we were on top in the first-half but in the second-half they had a little spell and then we came back into it but they go 2-0 up."

On two key moments in the game: "I think some big decisions have gone against us. I've been told the second goal is offside but I haven't seen that.

"What I have seen is a blatant handball in the first-half which should be a penalty. I told the referee that but he said it wasn't handball. If that isn't handball then we've got a problem.

"But there's been some self-sabotage from us in there where we've made a silly error and then not scored but that's been a story of our season so far.

"Tactically we got a lot right but I'd rather be saying they were good but we've won the game."

Gary Caldwell also discussed the Grecians outstanding defensive record with six straight clean sheets now having been secured, in all competitions.

He told Sky Sports: "We've got a good goalkeeper but it's not just about Joe as Shaun MacDonald (reserve goalkeeper) is a big part of that too.

"Kevin Miller (goalkeeper coach) takes a big part of the credit for not only finding Joe but also working with him.

"We have to keep that mentality with the amount of blocks and how we defend."

Exeter manager Gary Caldwell speaking on Sky Sports: "I'm not pleased with the performance but delighted with the result.

"The character of this team is something we're going to be proud of at the end of the season.

"Joe Whitworth was fantastic in that first-half because we weren't at our best.

"Josh Magennis and Jack Aitchison made me look silly when they came on for not picking them from the start but that's what we say about it being about the whole group.

"We know we can be better so for us to be up to fourth in the league is fantastic but there's so much more to do."

Exeter City have now kept a club record sixth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.

Goalkeeper Joe Whitworth told Sky Sports: "I'm buzzing with it. We've had quite a few in a row now. Clean sheets win games.

"We've really based our game on it. We've got a strong defensive unit but it goes through the whole. We've done really well.

"The main thing the gaffer has implemented is our defensive structure and we stick to it and trust the game plan. The lads have been excellent recently."

A tough result for Shrewsbury Town to take as, at least for large parts of the first-half, they didn't play like a side towards the foot of the table but their reaction after the second Exeter goal probably tells you a lot about the lack of confidence in the squad.

It doesn't make for pleasant reading with Salop fourth-bottom and they could slip a further place should Crawley Town claim a win at Reading on Saturday.

Exeter goalscorer and man of the match Josh Magennis has praised the "recruitment and the style of play" that manager Gary Caldwell has implemented at the club.

He told Sky Sports: "We're just taking each game as it comes and tonight was similar. I think Shrewsbury were a hard team but we always back ourselves."

On the team gelling so quickly with new players joining in the summer, Magennis said: "It's not just about your techincal ability, it has to be about your mindset and who you are as a person.

"We've got no bad eggs, no egos. We are all in it together. You can see that with the boys coming off at half-time, fresh legs at half-time.

"We've got something good going here but football can change so we've got to keep our feet on the ground and keep moving."

That league table looks very agreeable right now for Exeter City who are up to fourth and are probably starting to shed their dark horse tag a little.

All the sides around them play on Saturday - with Lincoln hosting Birmingham - but the Grecians have points on the board and can sit back and relax for a few days.

Shrewsbury gave themselves an uphill battle after going behind early.

But I thought for large parts of the game there were some real positives with the passing and movement.

I see the TV have given the Exeter goalkeeper the man of the match so that tells you a few things.

I'm a positive person myself and I saw a lot of positives tonight but it's just about that final decision - Exeter get into those positions and score - Shewsbury don't.

The performance probably deserved more.

It's a mature performance.

It was a great start and then Shrewsbury asked a few questions with some good saves from Whitworth.

But we said at half-time they needed that second goal and got it.

We said it was about mindset and they had it.

Aitchison was excellent when he came on and Exeter are up to fourth - fantastic.

It's all over. Exeter City keep their fifth consecutive clean sheet and they are now up to fourth in League One.

The Grecians took the lead after Kamari Doyle pounced on a mistake by Toto Nsiala to fire home after nine minutes.

Joe Whitworth made an excellent double save to retain the lead in the first-half but it was a very comfortable second 45 minutes in the end for Gary Caldwell’s side.

Josh Magennis swept home from Jack Aitchison's cross to double the lead and put the game beyond doubt. There was certainly a hint of offside but Exeter won't care.

Shrewsbury Town remain in 21st position in the relegation zone, but more importantly have played at least two more games - three in some cases - than the teams around them.

Shrewsbury win a free-kick about 35 yards from goal in a central area.

It's clipped to the back post by Funso Ojo... and drifts all the way out for a goal-kick.

We're into four minutes of added time and barring a miracle, Exeter are going fourth in League One and Shrewsbury will still be in the relegation zone in 21st.

It's been a mature performance from Exeter.

They've been very professional.

And it looks like being another clean sheet as well.

The 282 Exeter fans who made the journey tonight will be delighted with what they've seen from their side. The 4,600-odd Shrews fans not so much...

Are the Grecians about to keep a fifth consecutive clean sheet in League One? Quite remarkable if they can see it out.

This is about the closest Shrewsbury have come in this second-half and it pretty much sums up their night.

Tommi O'Reilly fires a shot wide from the edge of the box and it was never really troubling Joe Whitworth in the Exeter goal.

Time is very much running out.

Exeter are going for a third. Josh Magennis gets on the end of a deep cross but George Lloyd is back in his own box to block the goal-bound header.

It goes out for a corner but it's cleared away.

Both sides are making some changes here.

Jay Bird is coming on for Exeter in place of Millenic Alli who has looked pretty lively tonight.

And it's a triple sub for Shrewsbury who bring on Arsenal loanee Charles Sagoe Jr, George Nurse and Taylor Perry in place of Jordan Rossiter, who just picked up a knock, Mal Benning and Josh Feeney.
