For a team that are struggling a little bit this season, Shrewsbury are playing some really nice football so far.

Great double save by Joe Whitworth there, keeping that clean sheet record intact.

You have to give Shrewsbury credit for the way they've settled after conceding that early goal.

Leo Castledine has been at the centre of everything good they've done going forward, mind you when your dad Stewart's an ex-pro himself, your mum's a TV presenter (Lucy Alexander from Homes Under The Hammer) and your sister Kitty is in EastEnders, you're not exactly going to be backwards in coming forward, are you?

Just going back to that Exeter goal from Kamari Doyle...

Shrewsbury (I might have mentioned it already) had already conceded 20 EFL goals this season but they invite Exeter on by passing across the back.

Nsiala tries to turn inside Doyle into a congested area 20 yards from his own goal and the rest is now history, and not pretty from the home side's perspective.

Finally some kind of threat from the home side as Jordan Rossiter whips a cross into the Exeter box but Joe Whitworth pouches it safely

That is disappointing. You want to just get through the first stages of the game.

It's an individual error from Nsiala unfortunately. I'm all for playing out the back but there are certain times in a game to do it.

It's always good for your goalkeeper to get one like that early on that you're expecting to save. He saves comfortably.

Good play initially from Exeter but they just rushed the shot a little bit.

Kamari Doyle has a go from distance but it's a daisy cutter which is fielded by Toby Savin in the Shrewsbury goal.

Staying on all-things defensive, only Peterborough (21) have conceded more than Shrewsbury's 20 goals in League One so far this season.

They even conceded three in winning 5-3 at Crawley last weekend.

Oh, by the way, quiet opening to this one...

We've mentioned Exeter's excellent defensive record which now stands at five games and seven and a half hours since they last conceded.

They've NEVER gone six games in a row without conceding a goal...

I feel like this Shrewsbury team looks more solid and comfortable with the extra man at the back.

For now, while the results have been going the way they've been going, it's a wise move to stick with the same team.

Hopefully Shrewsbury can start climbing the league and picking up more points and maybe then the manager can think about playing two centre-halves to get that extra man further forward.

I'm going with a 2-1 home win tonight.

As previously advertised, Exeter's recent success is firmly built around a solid defensive line which hasn't been breached in any of their last five matches in all competitions.

As well as on-loan goalkeeper Joe Whitworth (Crystal Palace) manager Gary Caldwell has also brought-in defenders Tristan Crama (Brentford) and Johnly Yfeko (Rangers) on temporary deals.

Alongside the experienced Pierce Sweeney, who's now in his ninth season with the Grecians, they've proved a tough nut to crack.

A quick glance tells you they need more goals up front with Josh Magennis goalless from his nine league starts and Leicester loanee Amani Richards having scored just once so far.

Their top scorers in the league are midfielders Ed Francis and Kamari Doyle with two each.

John Marquis struggled for goals in his first three games for Shrewsbury Town after joining in the summer following his release by Bristol Rovers.

He was then dropped to the bench for the next six League One matches.

But the 32-year-old laid down a marker by bagging a brace and setting up another on his second successive start in the 5-3 win against Crawley Town at the weekend.

Marquis may not have enjoyed the most prolific campaign last season, netting just four times in 35 games, but he is more than capable of racking up goals when he finds form.

If Salop are to pull away from the relegation zone this season, they will be relying on Marquis to provide goals and assists - and his experience could just prove to be the difference.
