Arsenal v Manchester City (Sunday, 12:30 BST)

    BBC Sport journalist

Manchester City striker Vivianne Miedema will return to her former club when they take on Arsenal in their opening Women's Super League game on Sunday.

City manager Gareth Taylor said he thinks she will receive an "outstanding ovation and certainly deserves it".

She netted on her debut as City beat Paris FC 5-0 in Champions League qualifying earlier this week, which Taylor said will "do a lot confidence wise"

Taylor said: "I never played for a club as long as Viv did, but I knew how I felt when I went back to a club, particularly a club who I had a strong affection with. Viv’s not unique in that sense."

  3. Miedema's City debut in the WSLpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 20 September

Vivianne Miedema is set to make her Women's Super League debut, as a Manchester City player, against former club Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

  4. 'We believe in ourselves'published at 15:36 British Summer Time 20 September

Tottenham v Brentford (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Brentford

Finally from Brentford boss Thomas Frank, he has spoken of the challenge his side face at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday: "I have a fantastic group of players. We believe in ourselves. We respect every opponent.

"Ange [Postecoglou] is a fantastic coach. They are big favourites to beat us but, that said, we still think we can do something and that is the beauty of it. That is the starting point of every game - believing you can win it.

"If we want to beat Tottenham we need to be on our a-game, our top game, and they probably need to be a little bit off their game.

"We know if we drop our concentration slightly, we will be in trouble."

  5. Mbeumo 'thrives on that responsibility'published at 15:33 British Summer Time 20 September

Brentford boss Thomas Frank on pressure on Bryan Mbeumo: "Bryan has been doing very well here for five seasons. Adding layers through those seasons

"Last season he was bang on for a top season then got a big injury. Hopefully nothing will happen to him because he is important for us.

"He thrives on that responsibility. He was the penalty taker last year when [Ivan] Toney wasn’t playing, he is the set piece taker, he is the goalscorer and assist maker so there is a bit of responsibility on his shoulders."

On Kevin Schade being ready to step in: "Kevin is in a really good place. We have played six games and he has started four and coming on in all six

"He is getting better and better after a big injury last year. He came in at end of season and he played his first 90 minutes against Leyton Orient. He is getting in good positions and has been a bit unlucky with goals.

"I'm pleased with his progress. I think he can still do more. There is still more to improve but I happy with progress so far."

  7. 'When it rains, it definitely pours'published at 15:25 British Summer Time 20 September

Tottenham v Brentford (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to the media about injuries after it was confirmed Yoane Wissa would be about until November: "When it rains it definitely pours.

"But it is what it is, we need to deal with it, it is my job. As coaches we think about what our strongest line up is and how exciting that team is but, in reality, most of the time you miss, one, two or three players.

"It is a big part of the head coach job to deal with that and find solutions when you have eight first-team players out and it seems like it keeps continuing.

"They are quite unlucky injuries. It is not because we have trained players too hard or haven’t made them strong enough. Of those eight players, maybe five would be starting, so it is big praise to players that are playing and the staff that we can still compete."

  8. Sutton's Predictions: Southampton v Ipswichpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 20 September

Southampton v Ipswich (Saturday, 15:00 BST)

Sutton's prediction: This was a Championship fixture last season, and Ipswich did the double over Saints, including at Portman Road in April when they nicked it 3-2 with a late winner after Southampton had played really well and battered them.

This time, it smells like a draw to me. I can't choose between either team, even though I know how much they would both give for all three points. 1-1

James Smith's prediction: I am Team Ipswich' this year, only because of Ed Sheeran! 1-2

  9. Greenwood has 'big shoes to fill' as Man City captainpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 20 September

Arsenal v Manchester City (Sunday, 12:30 BST)

Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor says naming defender Alex Greenwood as their new club captain was a "fairly easy" decision.

Greenwood, who joined City from Lyon in 2020, takes the armband on a permanent basis following the retirement of former captain Steph Houghton.

Taylor said that England defender Greenwood, 31, is the "main figure that we really want to embody everything that we do at City".

"You always look for that club captain to embody everything that you're about and Alex is cetainly that," Taylor said in his pre-match news conference before Sunday's Women's Super League game against Arsenal (12:30 BST kick-off).

"She had big shoes to fill with Steph and taking over in that role, but what I would add is that Alex is a big driver of the way we do things on and off the pitch which is really important as well as obviously being a top player."

  10. Sutton's Predictions: Tottenham v Brentfordpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 20 September

Tottenham v Brentford (Saturday, 15:00 BST)

    Ange PostecoglouImage source, Getty Images

Sutton's prediction: My worry for Spurs at the moment is that, this season, they have not been as clinical or creative with the final pass when they get in the final third of the pitch as they have been previously under Ange.

They will have to be better at that here, but they are at home and I am backing them to get over the line. 2-1

James' prediction: Brentford are a decent team but I still think Tottenham will find this much easier than they did against Arsenal last weekend. 2-1

  11. 'We had a bad night and now we have to react'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 20 September

Fulham v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking about ahead of Saturday's home game against Newcastle:

"It's been a solid one. I think it was really unfair not to get the three points against West Ham. It would have been even better to get those three points

"The three points would have made sense because of the way we played, and it would have rewarded the player's performance. Last Tuesday was a little bit of a strange feeling but the teams with character and personality react after bad nights. We had a bad night and now we have to react."

  12. 'Adama is helping with his power and strength'published at 14:58 British Summer Time 20 September

Fulham v Newcastle (Saturday, 15:00 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking about Adama Traore ahead of Saturday's home game against Newcastle: " It's always different when you're available to do a pre-season. He came late last season and without a pre-season, he was training in Spain alone.

He got injured last year during a training session and from that moment it was difficult for him to recover and regain his confidence. Last season we only saw spells of him, and he helped the team in moments. This season, he's helping the team with his power and strength."

  13. Single-minded Ange approach splits opinionpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 20 September

No matter what the conversation around Tottenham - Ange Postecoglou appears focused on what he believes is right - whether popular with sections of the supporters or not.

The 59-year-old spoke at length in his press conference about the atmosphere around the club, injuries and getting Dominic Solanke firing after an ankle injury disrupted his process.

His direct, open and honest communication style is refreshing but, at times, that honesty can leave some reporters feeling uncomfortable as he can sometimes issue prickly responses.

And his single-minded belief in what he is doing sometimes frustrates supporters, who don't feel listened to and like he lacks the ability to change when his ideas are not working.

Yet, there has to be some appreciation that Postecoglou is a manager making decisions that are in the long-term benefit to Spurs, including his decision to make eight changes in the Carabao Cup, to give minutes to wider squad and young players despite risking defeat to Coventry in midweek.

The best way to lift pressure will be by winning more consistently and the performances in the league have been good but need to be matched by results, starting with Brentford on Saturday, to satisfy growing impatience among some supporters in North London.

  14. No fresh injuries for Fulhampublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 20 September

Fulham v Newcastle (Saturday, 13:00 BST)

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva, speaking ahead of Saturday's home game against Newcastle: "There's not really any changes from the last game.

  15. 'It makes no sense to talk about the past'published at 14:48 British Summer Time 20 September

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner responding to Leicester manager Steve Cooper's comments that allowing Palace's first goal last weekend was "an awful human error": "We had the game during the week so we prepared for QPR and I didn't see so many clips. Eze's goal was regular at Brentford and was disallowed so it makes no sense to talk about the past. It's gone, it was a draw.

"Now it's preparing for Man United. After the Brentford game, we didn't complain about it. Throughout a season there will be some decisions for you and some against you."

  16. Foden 'ready to play 90 minutes'published at 14:42 British Summer Time 20 September

Man City v Arsenal (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden coming back: “Everyone needs a break. He was the best player in the league last season so of course we need him, to make competition and fight with the other midfield players and wingers.

His intensity, his pressing and his movement in the small pockets is one of the best in the world so you can imagine how pleased I am that he's back. Yeah, I think he’s ready [to play 90 minutes].”

  17. Palace 'need to manage' Whartonpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 20 September

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner on midfielder Adam Wharton who was rested for Tuesday's Carabao Cup win at QPR: "We have to manage him. He's not pain free and some days are better, some days are worse, so he needed the rest [in midweek].

"He had the entire game against Leicester and [playing] three days later just made no sense.

"He needs this time to rest, but now he’s fit."

  18. 'Duran is making a good impact'published at 14:36 British Summer Time 20 September

Aston Villa v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery speaking ahead of Saturday's match against Wolves about the impact of striker Jhon Duran: "As a striker, he is clearly helping us score goals and making a good impact but the idea is to play in the starting 11.

"I don't know [if he will start] tomorrow or Tuesday or next weekend but he is close and ready to play and add more minutes to play with us.

"[He might] play with Watkins, play together, play alone.

"We have a very good player and his commitment now is getting better. I think after a difficult summer he is 100 per cent focused here. I think everything now is going like we want."

  19. Doucoure out for 'several weeks' and Chalobah not availablepublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 20 September

Crystal Palace v Man Utd (Sat, 17:30 BST)

    Crystal Palace

    Cheick DoucoureImage source, Getty Images

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner gave a fitness update ahead of Saturday's meeting with Manchester United:

"[Trevoh Chalobah] is progressing, but he’s not available tomorrow. We expect him back with the team next week.

"The same with [Matheus] Franca. His recovery has gone quicker than expected. He did training yesterday and today with the team. It’s still a little bit too early. He will train next week, but he’s coming back.

"Just [missing] are Chadi Riad and, unfortunately, Cheick Doucoure."

On Doucoure's injury: "He has some [injury] to do with the tendon on the toe. We will miss him for several weeks. The tendon has to heal, so it’s a little bit of a bad situation for him, but he will be back in a few weeks.

"He had a lot pain during the [Leicester] game and after the game, and now we, and him as well, are pleased that it’s not so serious because it was so painful that there was a worry it was a serious injury.

"It’s not. It’s several weeks. He was out for eight months, so several weeks is a short period. He’s already working for his comeback."

  20. 'Let's try to protect the players'published at 14:29 British Summer Time 20 September

Brighton v Nottingham Forest Sun 14:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo was asked about the suggestion of players being "close" to going on strike because of the increased fixture schedule: "We have to consider the people that decide the schedule. I know how hard it is to find dates, especially with the international dates.

"But we cannot forget that the game is played by footballers and we have to respect the player. It's very difficult to play a game when you have less than 48 or 72 hours. If you repeat this over and over then problems appear and the level of the game decreases. Let's try to protect the players."
