Summary

  1. 'You’ve got to hit the ground running'published at 11:41 British Summer Time 20 September

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea and England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain on Manchester United's transfer activity after losing key players over the summer including goalkeeper Mary Earps, Katie Zelem and Nikita Parris:

"I think they’ve made some good signings, they signed Melvine Malard on a permanent, she was on loan last season.

"Dominique Janssen who’s a very experienced international player, Elisabeth Terland from Brighton who’s shown to be a really exiting young player and Celin Bizet from Tottenham who had a fantastic season last year.

"So they have bought some good quality players in but when you have that much upheaval it's interesting to see how quickly they can settle, how quickly they can start because in the WSL there’s not a lot of games in the season so you’ve got to hit the ground running, you’ve got to get results from the very beginning."

  2. 'There’s no excuses for them'published at 11:37 British Summer Time 20 September

The pressure is on. There’s no excuses for them (Arsenal) now, there’s lots to deliver this season. They’ve got bags of talent, bags of quality in the squad, lots of depth and think they’ve secured as a I say the best finding of the summer in getting in Mariona Caldentey from Barcelona, she’s looked exceptional in there. They’ve won the Champions League qualifying match so far so really excited to see what she brings to the league.

Its about that consistency and that’s what Manchester City and Chelsea have been so good at, they’ve been consistent and they’ve manged to get results even when they haven’t necessarily played well.

But Arsenal, when things aren’t going well or plan A isn’t working they don’t seem to have a plan B so that has to change this season.

  3. 'They’re a pretty frightening outfit to go up against'published at 11:33 British Summer Time 20 September

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Manchester City forward Vivienne MiedemaImage source, Getty Images

Former Chelsea and England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain on Manchester City signing ex-Arsenal player Vivienne Miedema:

"I think they lost it last year because Bunny Shaw got injured at the end and they didn’t have anybody else that was going to necessarily score them those goals.

"So now bringing in Miedema to add to that goal scoring ability, if you’ve those two players top of the pitch at one point in time, they’re a pretty frightening outfit to go up against.

"They had a fantastic start, they beat Paris FC 5-0 in the Champions League qualifiers last week so they will be full of confidence going into the weekend and they’re a team that I think will definitely be up there again in the season."

  4. 'She’s a winner, Chelsea are winners'published at 11:28 British Summer Time 20 September

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea and England goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain on new Blues manager Sonia Bompastor:

"It's got to be business as usual but its got to be business as usual plus one their targets to win the Champions League, that’s that one trophy that’s eluded them so far and, she’s won it, hasn’t she so she’s got that kind of history already.

"She’s got that pressure coming in but I think Chelsea maybe might say to her look ‘take your time, find your feet, find your way in’. Ultimately, she’s a winner, Chelsea are winners, that’s the target this year, win the Champions league."

  5. 'It's part of the job'published at 11:18 British Summer Time 20 September

    Liverpool v Bournemouth (15:00)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola on Evanilson, who missed a penalty for the Cherries in their last match against Chelsea: "We've talked to him, but he's used to it. He has taken and missed penalties before. I've missed penalties in my career and I know how it feels.

"You have to try and not let it change your confidence and attitude. It's part of the job. You have to try to forget about it and continue performing well, is what I would suggest to him."

  6. 'Players like Cook give you assurance'published at 11:14 British Summer Time 20 September

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola spoke about Lewis Cook, who will make his 200th league appearance if he plays against Liverpool: "I think he continues to improve. He was very solid last season he's a very reliable player.

"Even in games where we feel that he's not sharp on the ball, his work rate gives you a lot. These kind of players give you some assurance when you are preparing for a game. I hope he can continue and become even better."

Goalkeepers actually train for the double save. Saving in one direction then getting up and saving the opposite way. So without sounding like Roy Keane, he was doing his job and what he trains to do

Re the Raya save. There is no need for hate; yes the penalty wasn’t the best but to react like that and save the rebound is immense.

I don't know what the fuss is about with the Raya double save, the penalty was poor and so was the header which went straight at the keeper. There have been far better double saves than this, move on!

Mikel Arteta said it was one of the best saves he's seen in his career. What do you think?

  15. Saturday's match 'probably too early' for Ouattarapublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 20 September

Liverpool v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola gave a squad update ahead of Saturday's trip to Anfield: "The only one who is 100% out is Tyler [Adams], which you know.

"The one who I want to assess today is Dango [Ouattara]. It's probably too early, but he normally has very good recoveries so we'll see today. Everyone else is available."

  16. 'We need to create some chances'published at 10:28 British Summer Time 20 September

Brighton v Nottingham Forest (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Injury update from Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler: "There are players in the squad that are continuing their rebab. [Brajan] Gruda will be returning to team training in the next few days. Matt O'Riley is in very good shape and is doing gym work. James Milner is also doing really good, so I'm happy that all the players are working really hard for their comeback and I'm hoping they'll be back soon."

Update on Joao Pedro and goal-scoring problem: "It will be easy as a coach to say we missed him and that if Joao Pedro was playing against Ipswich we would have won, but for me in my philosophy, it's important to create chances. On top of that, every player wants to score and they don't want to miss on purpose.

"My solution is that we need to create some chances, attack the box with more players and change our attitude. We missed a step in not creating more chances against Ipswich and we're trying to work on that."

  17. Howe 'delighted' with Osula progresspublished at 10:21 British Summer Time 20 September

Fulham v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on who could fill in if Isak and Wilson are absent: "That leaves Anthony [Gordon], who did a really good job against Wolves, and Will Osula, who has done really well since he's been with us.

"I know he hasn't played any minutes yet but we've been delighted with his progress. He's got all the tools so we feel we've got good cover."

On Miguel Almiron: "Miggy has trained well this week. He came back in a really good place from his international games. Like the other players who played international tournaments, he's had limited minutes, but we're delighted with his attitude and how committed he is. He's in a much better place now."

  18. Chance to go top 'a great motivation'published at 10:15 British Summer Time 20 September

Fulham v Newcastle (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on the chance to go top of the Premier League with a win at Craven Cottage: "I only found that out this morning. It would be nice for us, it's a great motivation for us. It means nothing because it's so early [in the season] but it's where we want to be."

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe on Sandro Tonali: "I think Sandro is in a much better place, the international games really helped him. He’s certainly pushing to start but I want everyone pushing to start. He was very good against Wolves. We have really good competition for places in midfield."

On Harvey Barnes, who has only started once this season but scored a fine winner at Wolves last weekend: "Starting regularly is up to him. There is no guarantee. Harvey has a real coolness in front of goal, he has this way he strikes the ball, his positioning is very good. You don’t score the amount of goals he does if you are not in the right areas.

"He is a really humble lad and he is prepared to work for the team. I am delighted with how he has started the season."
