  1. Trent Alexander-Arnold linked with purchasing Nantespublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 20 September

Multiple sources around Liverpool and close Trent Alexander-Arnold have denied interest in buying French Ligue 1 club Nantes while backed by an supposed London-investment firm.

The surprise reports emerged from France last night as the eight-time champions were described as having received a bid worth between €100-140million.

Alexander-Arnold is known to be entrepreneurial with interests outside of football, but such a sum would be a staggering investment for an active player.

  2. Expanded number of club games is completely wrong - Marescapublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 20 September

West Ham v Chelsea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca on the expanded club fixture calendar and players potentially going on strike: "For me, it's completely wrong with the amount of games that we have. But the only ones that can do something are the players and we can help them. In the last two weeks some of the players have tried to explain what they think and I think it's a good starting point. Some of them have said that [going on strike] could be an idea for them."

  3. James remains out for Bluespublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 20 September

West Ham v Chelsea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has given an update on captain Reece James' thigh injury: "We're waiting that he's fit. His injury's a bit delayed but the most important thing for him and any injury is that they come back when they're 100% fit, so Reece is still out.

"We don't have an idea at the moment [when he'll be back]. We hope we can find the right solution and have him back as soon as possible."

  4. FPL tips game week five - Goalkeeper and defencepublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 20 September

    Josko GvardiolImage source, Getty Images

Emi Martinez, Aston Villa, keeper, £5m - home to Wolves

Clean sheets have been so hard to predict this season.

Gameweek four saw six of them from the 10 games, which means we've had 18 in 40 games - or clean sheets for 18 teams from a potential 80!

There's no standout keeper this week but Martinez has been a big-game performer in the past and derby games can be tight affairs.

Yukinari Sugawara, Southampton, defender, £4.5m - home to Ipswich

The Japanese full-back has been flying down the right flank in manager Russell Martin's progressive style of play where he likes to overload areas of the pitch.

Sugawara has put in 16 crosses, double any of his defensive team-mates and second on the team to Will Smallbone.

He's created three of Southampton's five big chances and also scored at Brentford.

Ipswich have been goal shy so far, with just two in their four games and, should Saints turn some impressive periods of play into a 90-minute performance, Sugawara has chances of a return at both ends of the pitch.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool, defender, £7m - home to Bournemouth

I may sound like a broken record by now but the attacking returns are on the horizon for the most expensive defender in the game.

Alexander-Arnold was close to another clean sheet last week before Nottingham Forest's smash-and-grab success at Anfield and it's amazing he has not got an assist yet.

The right-back's expected assists (xA) stat is an incredible 1.87 from four games. For context, that is an assist higher than any other defender in the game except Villa left-back Digne (0.94). Tottenham's Pedro Porro and Sugawara are next with just 0.67.

Josko Gvardiol, Manchester City, defender, £6m - home to Arsenal

Defences are likely to be on top when City host Arsenal on Sunday and you'd expect the Gunners to set up like they did last season, to absorb City pressure and hit on the break.

Rodri should return to City's line-up which should mean Gvardiol playing a more progressive position down the left like he did at the back-end of last season.

He'll see plenty of the ball, we know he has a goal or assist in him and, if City do keep a clean sheet, the Croatian will be a strong contender for bonus points.

  5. Managers set to speak shortlypublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 20 September

There are plenty of Premier League news conferences to come this afternoon.

Among the next to speak are Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou and Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca ahead of their respective London derbies with Brentford and West Ham this weekend.

We will bring you the latest from what they say here.

  6. FPL tips game week five - Player to watchpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 20 September

Leif Davis, Ipswich Town, defender, £4.5m

With the lack of clean sheets this season, is it time to go all-in on defenders with the best chance of an attacking return?

If so, Davis is a strong option. He had 18 Championship assists last season and one already in this campaign.

Ipswich won't keep many clean sheets but I'm eyeing Saints away this week, plus Everton and Leicester at home before gameweek 10 as games where you'd start Davis with confidence.

  7. View from Fantasy 606...published at 12:59 British Summer Time 20 September

    alistair bruce-bal

Chris Sutton told us this week he's going to start a petition to try to get Erling Haaland banned from FPL because he says he's making the game boring and predictable.

If you own him though, like Statman Dave and I sensibly do, the question is do you captain him in the big one against Arsenal on Sunday?

Last season the miserly Arsenal defence shut him out in both Premier League games and I think it could well be another low-scoring affair this time around, which is why I brought Salah into my squad last week ready to take the armband for Liverpool's home game against Bournemouth.

It's also why I will start Gabriel and just hedge my bets on events at Etihad Stadium.

The Fantasy 606 listeners' team moved ahead of us all in gameweek four, they've got Haaland but not Salah so this week's manager has decided to captain Diogo Jota while using their one free transfer to switch Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo in for Savinho.

And if you're one of those managers who's thinking about using their wildcard in gameweek six then it might be an idea to roll a transfer this week building up an extra free transfer when it comes to gameweek seven.

  8. 'I don't shirk away from the challenges'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 20 September

Aston Villa v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil on upcoming fixtures amid poor form: "It's obviously tough because to have the game plan work so well in such a tough game [against Newcastle] and to take nothing from it is a tough feeling. We were all disappointed with that, but we knew the Brighton game was coming quickly and I knew the lads needed me to be able to get them ready. It’s the same with Aston Villa.

"I enjoy that part of the job, I don’t shirk away from any of these challenges or any questions around how tough the run [is].

"I am comfortable with all of that and I’m comfortable the group understand well enough now that in a Premier League season, there will be some tough moments. We don’t accept them, we’re not stood here saying it is acceptable to lose."

  9. 'We need to find a way to make sure it goes our way'published at 12:46 British Summer Time 20 September

Aston Villa v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil on picking up just one point from the first four games of the season: "There's a lot of frustration in the building at the moment. The fixtures are a difficult run but we’ve shown we’ve got good enough players and a good enough way of doing things that we’re giving ourselves opportunities in all of the games to take results. We're frustrated with little bits and pieces. There’s lots that go on in a 97-minute game, and it’s just a couple of small bits that are costing us.

"It’s just little setbacks. There’s just a need to find a way to do better. We can still be competitive. We need to find a way to make sure it goes our way."

  10. 'It feels like the Hammers are giving it a go to try to break into the top six'published at 12:43 British Summer Time 20 September

West Ham v Chelsea (Sat, 12:30 BST)

Chris Sutton's prediction: West Ham supposedly replaced David Moyes because they wanted to play 'the West Ham way', and the Hammers' technical director Tim Steidten was reportedly flying managers in for talks when Moyes was still in charge.

In his wisdom, Steidten decided to go for Julen Lopetegui, a manager with similar traits to Moyes in terms of how he is a pragmatist.

They spent a lot of money in the summer, about £130m on new players, but are they going to do better than last season under Moyes, when they finished ninth? I am not sure they will.

This is a very difficult game to call because West Ham have not been playing particularly well and I am not convinced by Chelsea either. They were very fortunate to beat Bournemouth last time out. I really do not have a clue how this one will go, so I suppose the sensible thing for me to go for is a draw. 1-1.

West Ham fan James' prediction: We always do well against Chelsea, especially at home. I don't think they have been amazing so far this season and, although we haven't either, I do reckon we will beat them. I'd love to say there will be loads of goals but I don't mind what the score is, as long as we win. 2-1

James on West Ham's prospects this season: It feels like the club is giving it a go to try to break into the top six, although I don't think we'll make it - we will probably be lucky to get back in the Europa Conference League so at best eighth place and probably ninth. I am still not sure about the new manager to be honest because it feels like he is still using Moyes' approach, and even picking the same players. Even though we have got all these exciting new signings, we are not starting many of them, and I’d like him to be a bit more bold. At the moment, he still has a lot to prove.

  11. 'Villa have to find a balancing act with the Champions League'published at 12:38 British Summer Time 20 September

Aston Villa v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

Chris Sutton's BBC Sport columnist banner

Chris Sutton's prediction: Villa boss Unai Emery has to find a balancing act with their Champions League campaign and any chopping and changing to his team, which is a much bigger ask than when they reached the Europa Conference League semi-finals last season.

I didn't captain Ollie Watkins in my Fantasy team last week, when he scored a double against Everton, but Jhon Duran coming on to score Villa's winner in that game shows the depth in their squad to cope.

So, I don't feel they will be affected by their win over Young Boys in Switzerland on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see how much Emery rotates his players, but I can only see a Villa win. 2-0.

James' prediction: I feel like Villa are going to have another really good season. 2-1.

  13. Toti & Ait-Nouri doubtful to face Villapublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 20 September

Aston Villa v Wolves (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil on injuries to Toti Gomes and Rayan Ait-Nouri: "We need to check on Toti and Rayan today in training to see how they go, neither of them have done too much this week. Both have still got a bit to do to make sure they are available for tomorrow."

Whatever people say about the penalty, and plenty of bad ones go in, or training for double saves, Raya's was still noteworthy. What he did and many don't is he waited, he didn't guess. That impressed me and I'm a Spurs fan!

#bbcfootball, via WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

I'm loving the people saying Raya's save wasn't impressive because goalkeepers "train for it". Strikers train to score goals, doesn't mean they can all do it as well as each other.

  18. Ugly win means pressure remains on Postecogloupublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 20 September

    Nizaar Kinsella
    BBC Sport football news reporter

There is another news conference today for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and it will be a much easier affair after beating Coventry in the Carabao Cup.

But the harsh truth is that performance was one of the worst in his tenure.

Spurs were just four or five minutes away from being knocked out of the competition which represents the first chance of winning silverware this season just days after Postecoglou said he "always" wins silverware in his second season.

Changing eight players was a huge gamble that almost didn’t pay off as goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson saved the north Londoners after they secured just four points in their first four league games.

There remains pressure on the club to beat Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The questions Postecoglou is likely to be asked include:

    • Do boos for his substitution of Lucas Bergvall for James Maddison represent general dissatisfaction?
    • Or are fans also frustrated at Maddison's underwhelming displays?
    • How can he turnaround the creeping negativity?
    • And does it pre-date him after poor runs from his predecessors?
  19. 'Bronze has won at the highest level'published at 11:46 British Summer Time 20 September

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter on BBC Radio 5 Live

Lucy Bronze's won at the highest level, not just with England but also at club level. She’s won multiple Champions League trophies, multiple domestic trophies - she is a born winner.

Every single club she’s been at she’s won silverware but she’s been very outspoken on the fact that she wants to win the Champions League with an English club. We know that Arsenal are the only club to have done it so it's been a long time waiting. We need an English club to win the Champions League.

It helps the English league develop so Lucy Bronze has come back essentially to do that and Chelsea’s real target this season is to get their hands on that Champions League trophy, with the likes of Lucy Bronze and coach Sonia Bompastor, who have that experience.
