Derek McInnes was left angered by the lack of stoppage time as his side chased a late winner.

"We just lacked a wee bit of quality and we needed to stay calm," Hearts head coach tells BBC Scotland. "We were a wee bit excitable at times.

"We played last five-minute football for the majority of the second half. We just needed a wee bit more trust in what we do.

"The decisions were right from the referee, other than the three minutes injury time. That was madness.

"We were constantly speaking to him about it. There should have been more.

"If that was Celtic or Rangers at the top of the league, there would have been a lot more than three minutes I can tell you that."

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "We weren't good enough to win the game.

"We'll take the point. We had a wee bit of an off day and players are allowed that.

"We had a lot of attacking players - we were bold with selection. We thought United might have played 3-5-2, which our selection would have caused problems.

"But they set up with two 10s and a counter-attacking threat, they did it very well.

"The game lacked our usual control. We got a bit more control in the second half, but Dundee United still carried a threat."

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin tells BBC Scotland: "The first half, we are not there with our front-footed approach.

"We let them play between the lines too easy. They didn't create too many chances, but they had a lot of the ball.

"The good thing was the mentality of the players. When you start badly, it's easy to let it go away from you. But we stayed in the game, didn't panic or stress and gave ourselves the chance to win the game, even though it was not the perfect game.

"They did really well in the corner, like Liverpool v Barcelona, but we need to get ready. It was too easy."

Celtic ease to a seventh win in a row over Kilmarnock to narrow the gap at the top of the Premiership to seven points behind Hearts with a game in hand.

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin: "Hearts had plenty of possession, but they never caused us too many problems. We defended our box brilliantly.

"I can't remember my goalkeeper having too many saves to make.

"Towards the end, Hearts throw everything at us and there's lots of balls coming into the box.

"My goalkeeper was outstanding. He took a couple of high crosses and punched a couple. But I think on the dangerous attacks we had, we maybe could have shaded it.

"It was a good game and performance and reaction from the Motherwell performance. If you take that game in isolation, our run of results have not been too bad at all."
