  2. Cardiff tie 'doesn't need explaining' to Wrexhampublished at 19:31 GMT 28 October

    Wrexham v Cardiff (20:00 GMT)

Phil Parkinson admits he has not needed to highlight the importance of Wrexham's EFL Cup tie with Cardiff City to his players given the build-up to the fourth round fixture.

The pair will meet for the first time in 21 years at the Stok Cae Ras on Tuesday night (20:00 BST), with Parkinson admitting the Welsh derby has been the main topic of discussion in the town of late.

"When the draw came out it was an exciting one for everybody," he said.

"It's a Welsh derby and the chance to get into the quarter-finals for only the third time in our history so it's an exciting evening ahead.

"I had a chat with the lads about our history in this competition and the rivalry between Wrexham and Cardiff.

"I don't think it needed too much explaining because everywhere I've been going in the last few weeks, supporters have been speaking to me about that and I'm sure the players have been the same."

Grimsby chair and co-owner Andrew Pettit, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Feeling a little nervous. It is a massive game for the club. There is going to be 8,000 Mariners cheering us on.

"I think this game, ironically, is tougher [than Manchester United] - we are huge underdogs, once again.

"We are playing decent football, the fans will get behind us, and we will give it a good go. There is a sense of anticipation.

"Every owner would by lying if they didn't say they were dreaming big. We are ambitious for the club, but we want to do it in a sustainable way."

  8. 'Everyone is looking forward to it' - Broadheadpublished at 19:22 GMT 28 October

    Wrexham v Cardiff (20:00 GMT)

Wrexham forward Nathan Broadhead is relishing the opportunity to face Welsh rivals Cardiff City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The Red Dragons host the Bluebirds at the STōK Cae Ras, and there has been a huge build-up to the clash, with it marking the first time ever that two sides from Wales have met at this stage of the competition.

The North Wales outfit beat League One side Reading in the third round, with Welshman Broadhead playing a starring role, scoring his first two goals for the Club since a summer move from Ipswich Town.

The 27-year-old hails from Bangor, just 50 miles from Wrexham, so he knows exactly what tonight's clash means for the home supporters.

“I was happy that we drew Cardiff to be fair,” he revealed. "I said before the draw came out that we’d probably get Cardiff, or hope to get them. Obviously, it’s another Welsh side, North v South, and hopefully we can get the win.

"Everyone is looking forward to it in the dressing room, and hopefully we can get the win, and hopefully the atmosphere is rocking."

"If we win, then in the next round, there's another chance to get a Premier League team. It's always nice to get a home game, but if you end up going to one of those big grounds, it's also good," he declared.

"It's a big game for Wales in general. My old man is a Cardiff supporter, so I don't know what side he will choose —hopefully the red side."
