  2. 'Man Utd need to start climbing up that league'published at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

Man Utd v PAOK (20:00 GMT)

    Izzy Christiansen
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast

It's got to be a must-win game [for Manchester United]. Just looking at the table now, they're 22nd out of 36 teams. They really do need to get a win.

They've not won yet in the Europa League this season and they've got three draws so it's really important that they stake a claim, that they use the energy - which I presume there will be at Old Trafford, under the lights, on a European night.

Ruud van Nistelrooy I'm sure will be thriving, and I'm sure the players will be as well, but they need to get a job done and start climbing up that league.

Larne manager Tiernan Lynch said he hopes his team can bounce back from their 4-1 defeat by Shamrock Rovers when they face St Gallen in the Conference League.

"We now have to go out and put the Rovers [defeat] right - we were hugely disappointed in that game," said Lynch.

"We feel we let ourselves down and the league down. That's not something we're going to take lightly."

Larne are at the bottom of the Conference League table, after defeats by Molde and Shamrock Rovers.

  5. Blues aim to maintain 100% recordpublished at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

    Chelsea v Noah (20:00 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea are top of the Conference League table with six points having won both of their opening matches - against Belgian side Gent and Greek club Panathinaikos.

Armenian outfit Noah are playing in Europe for just the third time and after coming through the Conference League qualifying rounds, they have three points from two games having beaten Mlada Boleslav before losing at Rapid Vienna.

  6. Spurs look forward to 'unbelievable atmosphere'published at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

Galatasaray v Tottenham Hotspur (17:45 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou says it will be a "great test" for his Tottenham players to face Galatasaray in front of the Turkish side's vociferous home support in the Europa League on Thursday.

"That's why you play football," said Postecoglou. "Especially with this generation, a lot of them have experienced what football is like without supporters [during the Covid pandemic].

"We're looking forward to it. It's a fantastic stadium - the supporters create an unbelievable atmosphere here [and] they love the big European nights.

"Galatasaray at their home stadium with the fans behind them. There is a great energy in all their games so it's a great test for us and one we're looking forward to.

"We're in good form, playing good football ourselves and hopefully it should be a good game."

Striker Dominic Solanke scored two goals in the win against Aston Villa added: "Everyone knows how big a club Galatasaray is and the atmosphere they create in their stadium is immense.

"As a footballer, it's something that everyone wants to be part of. In our squad, we have a lot of players who have played in a lot of big tournaments, big stadiums and big atmospheres, so I think we'll be ready for it."

Tottenham are currently second in the Europa League table with nine points, after beating Qarabag, Ferencvaros and AZ Alkmaar.

  7. 'It's always something special'published at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

    Olympiakos v Rangers (17:45 GMT)

    Rangers

Rangers are currently 11th in the Europa League table, with six points from their opening three games after securing wins against Malmo and Romanian champions FCSB either side of defeat by Lyon.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement said:"European nights, there's always some magic. It's always something special. Different playing styles, different players that you don't know really well.

"And in that way, for a player, it's always nice to play in stadiums like this - big stadiums with a big crowd - so I think everybody will embrace that and be happy with that."

Fitzgerald has been involved in Ruud van Nistelrooy's squad for the last two games and played the first half of Wednesday's Uefa Youth League victory over Zalgiris.

The Salford-born England Under-17 international is yet to make his first-team debut.

  9. Will Rice play through pain of broken toe?published at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

Chelsea v Arsenal (Sun, 16:30 GMT)

Multiple news outlets are now reporting that Declan Rice suffered a broken toe, external during Saturday's defeat at Newcastle but wants to play through the pain rather than spend time on the sidelines.

Rice missed Wednesday's 1-0 Champions League loss to Inter Milan and was discused by John Murray and Matthew Upson on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily Debrief post-match.

"Declan Rice we don't know about, having not been able to put a boot on this week, but Mikel Arteta was typically a little vague about the severity of it," said Murray.

"It doesn't look too good the Rice injury, that could be a concern for the weekend," Upson added.

Rice was today included in the latest England squad, with matches coming up in the Nations League in Greece (14 November) and at home to the Republic of Ireland (17 November).

Tom Lawrence challenges a Motherwell player during their Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat by RangersImage source, PA Media

Rangers will be without Tom Lawrence for Thursday's Europa League game away to Olympiakos. The Wales midfielder is expected to be out for four to six weeks after being forced off in the first half of Sunday's Scottish League Cup semi-final win over Motherwell.

Apart from Lawrence, most of the Rangers squad is fit and available after striker Danilo returned to action against Motherwell last weekend.

English right-back Dujon Sterling has been nursing an issue this season, but should continue to be available.

I’d say Reece James needs to sort out his hamstrings over in Spain with Madrid or Barca to regain fitness otherwise he’ll never be selected for England. Maresca has also made it clear that he’s not first choice.

  12. Van Nistelrooy has done a 'great job steadying the ship'published at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

Man Utd v PAOK (20:00 GMT)

    Izzy Christiansen
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast

I think it's such a different situation. Firstly, I think Ruud van Nistelrooy has done really well to just gather the fans and it probably is much easier as a club legend to do that in this peculiar situation Manchester United have been in.

He's done a great job steadying the ship. He's looked really calm in front of the media, he's definitely enjoyed moments out there on the touchline.

We've seen the celebrations, the penalty against Chelsea and the mammoth win against Leicester in the League Cup last Wednesday, so he's definitely enjoying it.

I do find it a little bit strange, however, that Ruben Amorim has made it clear he is going to bring his staff with him from Sporting.

I think there perhaps needs to be a conversation around whether Van Nistelrooy stays on, alongside Amorim, or whether he goes on to pastures new. Who knows? But I think Van Nistelrooy has given a good account of himself in the last couple of weeks.

  13. Sense of excitement around Amorim - Van Nistelrooypublished at 15:54 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

Man Utd v PAOK (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Ruud van Nistelrooy has referenced new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim in his programme notes ahead of this evening's Europa League tie with PAOK.

Van Nistelrooy is yet to speak to the Portuguese coach, who will arrive in England early next week. There is also no clarity over whether the former United striker will return to his assistant manager role once his four-match stint as interm boss is over.

"There is a sense of excitement around the club as we prepare to welcome Ruben Amorim next week," said Van Nistelrooy.

"Until then it will be my continued privilege to manage the team.

"In my two games so far I have felt a lot of love from the stands. I know how much energy this gives me and the players, so we need to keep this connection going.

"If we all keep pulling together and reaching for our highest levels in every game, we will move in the right direction - I am certain of that."

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison is set for a spell on the sidelines, defender Cristian Romero will also miss the tie through injury, although his prognosis is more encouraging.

German forward Timo Werner and 17-year-old Mikey Moore were both unused substitutes against Villa, and neither player has travelled to Turkey.

The 18-year-old fractured his foot in August, the French defender, 18, has yet to make his competitive debut for the club.

Lewis Hall was excellent on Saturday. I was lucky enough to be at the game and I'm such a footie geek that I watch players off the ball a lot. His positioning was excellent, his technique very good and he's great going forward and defensively. Eddie [Howe] and his coaches have managed this lad's progress exceptionally well. There was a lot of questions about him initially, but Howe has shown he was right to develop him before chucking him in.

    Richard, Brentford.

Harwood-Bellis might be risky - he plays for one of the worst Premier League teams - but it could work out. Youth isn't a bad thing.

    Noah

We need youth in this England team after decades of overrated, dull, uninspired performances. Glad he’s picked in-form players rather than the usual boring players that other teams know how to play against.

  20. Will Palmer and Rice be fit for England?published at 15:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November

    England

Chelsea host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday and fans of both teams will be keen to see whether key men Cole Palmer and Declan Rice are fit to play.

Palmer has not trained this week after picking up a knee injury against Manchester United while Rice missed Wednesday's defeat against Inter Milan with a knock.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says he hopes to have Palmer available while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said Rice will be assessed today.

Both, however, have been selected for Lee Carsley's final England camp, who conceded he knows "a lot of the squad are managing injuries".

Time will tell whether both will we be fit for Sunday, and then for the Three Lions' games against Greece and the Republic or Ireland.
