Record signing Thibault Klidje inspired Hibernian to a first home win of the season as they hammered Livingston in the Scottish Premiership.

The striker, who Hibs paid a reported £1m for, has been restricted to mainly substitue appearances since his summer move from Luzern, but scored the opener and also won a penalty in an all-action display from the start.

His goal after nine minutes was brilliantly executed. After receving a pass from Dan Barlaser with his back to goal, he spun his man and strode into the box before blasting the ball beyond Jermoe Prior.

And in the second half his pace and clever movement lead to a desperate Cristian Montano pulling his shirt, resulting in a penalty.

Jamie McGrath calmly dispatched from the spot and Hibs added a third when Klidje's replacement Junior Hoilett headed in Chris Cadden's cross.

The same pair combined again in the 90th minute as Hoilett stroked the ball high into the net to seal Hibs' first league win since the opening day of the season after five straight draws and a late derby defeat by Hearts.

Promoted Livingston started the weekend with the worst defensive record and this performance typified why, as they toiled to get to grips with Hibs from the start.

Even after David Martindale's triple subsitution at half-time, they struggled and still have just one league win so far as they drop to the foot of the table.

Klidje announces himself at Easter Road - analysis

Given Hibs splashed a seven-figure sum on Togo international Klidje, fans were starting to grow slightly concerned he had made only two starts this season.

He has had to be patient, given he has the impressive pair of Kieron Bowie and Martin Boyle to compete with.

But this performance will do him no harm in pressing his case for a regular start.

His searing pace, energy and ability to hold the ball up meant he terrorised the Livingston defence time and again.

Three times in the first half alone he ended up through on goal and feasibly could have had a hat-trick.

His goal was a combination of skill, speed, strength, and conviction in his final product, which gave Prior no chance.

The 24-year-old was not as composed with his other opportunities, and Livingston's defence was extremely charitable at times, but he clearly has the potential to be a big player this season for Hibernian.

What they said

Hibernian head coach David Gray: "Everything I asked for we saw. The big thing was the reaction to losing our first game of the season and we did it in the perfect way.

"Four goals, a clean sheet and we could have had more. The biggest thing I asked for was intensity and I got that from the start.

"The subs came on and made us better, which is the challenge for them. It's a really good day's work."

Livingston manager David Martindale: "Architects of our own downfall. We lose a goal on eight minutes from poor decision-making. We had started the game ok, but we're lucky to go in 1-0 down at half-time.

"Hibs exploited our left-hand channel. We changed shape and the [enforced] substitutions didn't help to be fair. We had to put a patchwork defence together.

"Then first five minutes [of the second half] we make a terrible decision. Cris [Montano] makes a really really poor decision [for the penalty]. And at that point the game is gone."

What's next?

Hibernian are away to Aberdeen next Sunday in the Premiership (14:30 BST) while Livingston are at home to Motherwell the day before at 15:00.
