That's a bold move to bring Ruby Mace on considering she just signed for the club, but I'm sure she'll slot right in.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 7 September

    Liverpool 1-2 Everton

Well if Brian Sorensen's half time interview message of "start better" was not enough to show you how he's feeling after that first half, then his three half times subs do.

Record signing Ruby Mace is on alongside Clare Wheeler and Karen Holmgaard.

Honoka Hayashi, Hayley Ladd and debutant Katie Robinson are hooked off.

  8. 'Interesting team talk for Taylor'published at 13:04 British Summer Time 7 September

    HT: Liverpool 1-2 Everton

    Karen Bardsley
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield

Everton's goals have been slightly against the run of play. Ornella Vignola had some fantastic one-v-one attacking and it was a fantastic finish.

Again, they were really patient and trying to find the spaces and Liverpool are switching off and Everton have paid off with that goal.

I think my question is, how do Liverpool respond? They don't have the same squad depth Everton have, so who's going to go deeper and who's going to control this game? It'll be an interesting team talk at half-time for Gareth Taylor.

  9. The tale of two lonely goalkeeperspublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 7 September

    HT: Tottenham 0-0 West Ham

Well that was a first half very, very short on quality.

13 shots at goal between the sides but only 1 hit the target.

Tottenham registered just 0.27 xG, while West Ham weren't much better with 0.49.

The average position map for the two teams, Tottenham in black and West Ham in purple, sums it up really.

The stadium announcer was just reading some birthdays out.

Clearly the requests came in before Grace Clinton left for Manchester City as one of the fans whose birthday it was had said Clinton was their favourite player.

It was the trigger for boos from the Manchester United fans.

  12. Liverpool dominant but trail at the breakpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 7 September

    HT: Liverpool 1-2 Everton

You have to feel for Liverpool. They dominated for large parts of that first half, dominated the majority of the attacking metrics, they even hit the woodwork twice!

They also defended well for the most part too with some crucial late challenges. But they find themselves behind.

A penny for the thoughts of new boss Gareth Taylor.

  13. 'Everton will have confidence from scoring late'published at 12:55 British Summer Time 7 September

    HT: Liverpool 1-2 Everton

    Karen Bardsley
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield

It was an exciting finish. To go in 2-1 up and score in the way Everton did, I think they'll have a lot of confidence from that and take that into the second half because there were long spells where they looked out of the game but managed to claw themselves back in.

  16. Frustration for Taylor's Redspublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 7 September

    HT: Liverpool 1-2 Everton

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport women’s football news reporter at Anfield

The scoreline doesn't really reflect the performances. Liverpool have dominated Everton for large spells.

They have had more touches in the opposition box (23 to Everton's six), more passes in the final third (68 to 27) and more possession with 58%.

But there's only one stat that counts. Everton 2-1 Liverpool.

The top brass at Leicester should be embarrassed. When women's football is so buoyant they seem to be treating their WSL team like a minor side issue. Unacceptable in 2025!

The ball works its way into the box to Michelle Agyemang. She takes a touch and fires at goal with her left foot but the shot is well blocked.

Villa's defence is standing firm so far.

  19. 'Snoeijs wanted to get there first'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 7 September

    HT: Liverpool 1-2 Everton

    Karen Bardsley

Its a lovely delivery into the area and Katja Snoeijs does really well to meet it first. That's something in terms of determination, for me, wanting to get there first.

    She deserved that.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 7 September

Well it's hard to argue that they fully deserve it but Everton lead across town at the break.
