  1. Where do Tottenham need to strengthen?published at 12:50 British Summer Time

On the other hand, Tottenham will be hoping to back new manager Thomas Frank in the transfer market and Eberechi Eze could be a perfect welcome gift for the former Brentford boss.

Winning the Europa League to secure Champions League qualification was a huge boost to Spurs' finances but also means the squad will need strengthening if they are to hold their own against Europe’s elite.

Frank has only had two weeks to consider where improvements are necessary.

He gave the green light to a £30m move for forward Mathys Tel, who has joined after a loan spell from Bayern Munich, while defender Kevin Danso’s stint on loan from Lens has been turned into an obligatory £21m permanent deal.

The only other arrival has been 18-year-old Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic, who is unlikely to be rushed into first-team contention and may instead go out on loan.

Spurs have been linked with a movee for Bournemouth’s Antonine Semenyo and it would be no surprise if they are targeting a goalscoring winger given Son Heung-min’s decline in form and the relative inexperience of Wilson Odobert, with Crystal Palace's Eze a target.

Reinforcements may also be required in the centre of the pitch, with both Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma entering the final year of their contracts, although Frank is reportedly a long-term admirer of Archie Gray and could look to utilise the youngster in midfield.

The 19-year-old mainly featured as a makeshift defender in his first year at Spurs but sees his future further forward.

I'm definitely not worried that Arsenal haven't made any signings yet, we have 3 confirmed that will be coming which matches our future, and another centre back + number 9 will be on their way soon! Great transfer window so far from Arsenal and its definitely going to be a three-horse race next year for the title!

  3. Why do Arsenal want Eze?published at 12:45 British Summer Time

Tottenham had turned to Eberechi Eze, hoping to add goals from the wings with captain Son Heung-min's future at the club unclear.

They had looked after Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo first, but a reunion with Thomas Frank in north London looks unlikely, with the Cameroon international reportedly heading for Manchester United.

However, Spurs could now face stiff competition for England international Eze after Arsenal reportedly joined the race.

The Gunners consider the Crystal Palace winger as a cheaper alternative to Real Madrid and Brazil star Rodrygo.

The Spanish giants have reportedly set an asking price of £77m for Rodrygo while another Arsenal target Nico Williams is now expected to join Barcelona.

With Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard their only options in the wing right now, the Gunners will be keen to add Eze to their squad ahead of the 2025-26 season.

  4. Release clause makes Eze attractive optionpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said last year that he was "astounded" that no Premier League rivals came in with a concrete bid for Eberechi Eze during the 2024 summer.

However, that won't be the case this time around, as the England forward has a release clause of £60m, plus around £7m in add-ons, in his contract which has kicked in this summer.

Palace are reportedly open to negotiating a deal for Eze if the right offer was made, because of their relationship with the player and the ambitions he has to play at the top level.

Eze to Arsenal actually makes so much sense. They desperately need an improvement on the left wing and some competition for Odegaard - after a poor season from him - both of which Eze can do. He’s also at a great age, comes across as a great personality, and in today’s game I would say £60m for him is a good price.

  6. Arsenal also eyeing Palace's FA Cup hero Ezepublished at 12:34 British Summer Time

Eberechi Eze had a 2024-25 to remember at Crystal Palace.

He bagged eight goals and assists apiece as Oliver Glasner's Palace finished 12th in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old was also their FA Cup final hero, scoring the only goal of the final against Manchester City as the Eagles lifted their first major silverware in their history.

So it's no wonder that some of Premier League's biggest clubs are fighting for his signature this summer.

As we mentioned earlier, fierce London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are reportedly battling for the England international, with the Sun reporting that the Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta has held talks with one of Eze’s representatives.

This is not the first time a Premier League club have been interested in signing Valencia youngster Cristhian Mosquera.

In January 2024, Crystal Palace had reportedly approached the La Liga club to sign the centre-back as a long-term replacement for in-demand Marc Guehi, though a transfer did not materialise.

Since then, Mosquera's reputation has grown exponentially with the club extending his contract till 2026 in March 2024.

“He’s characterised by his physical condition and good technical qualities, powerful in the air, and mature for his age,” former Valencia midfielder and the club's youth coach Miguel-Angel Angulo told the Guardian in 2021.

Mosquera's rise has seen both Colombia, where his parents are from, and Spain vie for the player in the international arena.

“Mosquera has decided to play for us,” Spain manager Luis de la Fuente said in 2024.

Though he is yet to make his Spain senior debut, the centre-back was part of the U-23 side that won the men's football tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Arsenal signing a striker is similar to me going to the gym. Spent the last 2 years saying I will but haven't. It won't happen today or tomorrow but it will definitely happen....at some point....maybe....probably not.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have opened talks to sign Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera, according to BBC Sport's Sami Mokbel.

But who is Mosquera and how will he fit in at the Emirates?

Born in Alicante in Spain, Mosquera's first love was basketball before he was introduced to futsal - joining in when the team his cousin was playing for were short of a player.

He then pursued football, joining local side Hercules before moving on to Valencia.

Mosquera made his Valencia first-team debut in 2022, becoming the eighth-youngest player in the club's history and the youngest centre-back at the age of 17 years, six months and 23 days.

But it was during the 2023-24 season that he made the centre-back role his at the Spanish club.

He made 36 La Liga appearances that season before starting 37 of 38 league games during 2024-25.

Standing at 6 ft 3in, Mosquera has represented Spain at various age levels and won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics with the Spain U23s.

A right-footed centre-back, the 20-year-old could provide cover for Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba at the Emirates.

Sunderland fan here, we’ve only made one signing this summer so far which is Enzo Le Fee who we had on loan last season anyway. If we want to stay up, we need to start making some signings and it’s concerning that there hasn’t been much movement after selling Jobe.

Defender Axel Tuanzebe is Burnley's third signing of the summer, ahead of their return to the Premier League.

He follows Netherlands left-back Quilindschy Hartman and goalkeeper Max Weiss to the club.

While Tuanzebe has signed for free, Burnley spent about £7.6m on Hartman and £4.3m on Weiss.

The Clarets have also spend around £35m to sign Jaidon Anthony, Marcus Edwards, Bashir Humphreys and Zian Flemming permanently after their loan spells in the Championship.

But having been in the Championship for two of the past three years, they may need to be conservative with their PSR loss limited to £61m.

Meanwhile, for fellow newcomers Sunderland, Enzo le Fee's loan move from Roma in January included an obligation-to-buy clause and the French midfielder could well kick-start a recruitment drive with the club in good financial shape.

"Since being relegated from the Premier League in 2017, Sunderland have not spent more than £10m in a single year on player signings, despite receiving parachute payments, and they have only made losses of £18m in the last two seasons," said football finance expert Kieran Maguire.

Leeds, who finished top of the second tier, are in a less fortunate position. "They will have to box clever in terms of recruitment. Spending £100m is just about feasible," said Maguire.

Spurs fan here. Think I can speak for the majority of Spurs fans and say that yes I’m worried about the lack of signings. Hope I’m proven wrong but history says we wait it out, try and cut costs on deals for our major targets and watch them move somewhere else for a few million extra. Get them in pre-season, let them bed into the team/squad and hit the ground running in the way other teams (esp City and Liverpool) do.

Ipswich wanted to keep Axel Tuanzebe but were unable to agree a new deal with the DR Congo defender following the team's relegation from the Premier League.

The Tractor Boys struggled in the top flight, earning just 22 points, but Tuanzebe was one of their better performers. He mainly operated as a defensive-minded right-back, though he could also feature for his new club Burnley at centre-back, with the Clarets having lost central defender CJ Egan-Riley to Marseille this summer.

Tuanzebe has struggled with injuries throughout his career and missed time last season because of a hamstring injury and a freak accident while cleaning dishes which nearly severed his thumb. Despite those absences, he started 20 league games, his highest total since spending 2018-19 on loan at Aston Villa.

Overall, the former Manchester United player was only available for 68% of Town’s league matches during his two years at the club so Burnley will need to manage his usage carefully – and keep him away from the washing up!

Axel Tuanzebe did not go straight into the Ipswich Town starting line-up after signing for them at the start of the 2023-24 season.

In fact, the DR Congo defender did not even feature in Ipswich's matchday squad for the first seven games in the Championship before making the bench in a game against Plymouth Argyle in October.

His first minutes for Kieran McKenna's side came in a 2-2 draw with Rotherham in November but it was only towards the closing stages of the campaign that he became a regular for the Tractor Boys in a right-back role.

After making 18 league appearances and helping them earn promotion to the Premier League, he signed a one-year extension with the club.

Starting all six games for Ipswich at the start of their Premier League season, Tuanzebe's return to the top flight was affected by injuries. He missed a month after suffering a freak thumb injury while doing the washing up in October.

A hamstring injury in December meant more time on the sidelines but the full-back managed 22 appearances as Ipswich finished 18th last season.

Though used primarily as a right-back by McKenna, Tuanzebe can also play as a centre-back.

I can't fathom how Villa still haven't signed any defenders. Their goals against total has been their Achilles heel for the past couple of seasons compared to other top flight teams yet Emery seems oblivious to it.

Axel Tuanzebe is a product of the Manchester United youth system, having joined the club when he was an eight-year-old.

After impressing across various age groups, Tuanzebe made his senior debut at the age of 19, coming on as a second-half substitute for Jose Mourinho's side in a 4-0 FA Cup victory over Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford in 2017.

Tuanzebe spent the second half of that season on loan at Aston Villa and was a fringe player for United during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

Further loan spells at Aston Villa, Napoli and Stoke City followed but his progress was marred by a string of injuries before he permanently signed for Ipswich Town in the Championship in 2023 on a one-year deal.

That contract was extended by another year after he helped the club win promotion to the Premier League for the 2024-25 season.

Burnley will now hope the 27-year-old, who joined as a free agent, will play a key role in helping them stay in the top flight during the 2025-26 season.

Leicester's squad return for pre-season training on Monday and it would have been a difficult situation for Ruud van Nistelrooy to come in for one day before leaving, part of the reason why the announcement has come now.

Profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and the Foxes' finances have also come into consideration with Leicester facing a charge for breaching the rules for the 2023-24 season and could be handed a points deduction.

Van Nistelrooy carried himself well during his Foxes' tenure, as you would expect for someone with his playing career, and was well liked within the club.

But the appointment never worked and Leicester ultimately went down with a whimper, with Van Nistelrooy now left to repair his reputation elsewhere.
