Ipswich have rejected Brentford's £35m offer for winger Omari Hutchinson.

The Bees reached Hutchinson's relegation release clause after talks on Tuesday but as the offer included payment installments over a period of time - and not the cash up front - it was turned down.

The clause has now expired but Brentford, under new boss Keith Andrews, could return once they have sold Manchester United target Bryan Mbeumo.

Hutchinson, 21, joined the Tractor Boys from Chelsea for £20m last summer after spending 2023-24 on loan at Portman Road, helping Ipswich to the Premier League.

He scored three goals in 31 league games last season but was unable to stop Kieran McKenna's side dropping back into the Championship.

Ipswich have already sold striker Liam Delap in a £30m deal to Chelsea after he scored 12 goals last season.

The signing of Granit Xhaka would undoubtedly be a statement one for Sunderland.

After losing star midfielder Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of the transfer window, the Black Cats know they need to strengthen in that department.

Regis Le Bris has already added over £100m worth of talent to his Sunderland side as he looks to consolidate them in the top flight.

That's more than double the amount that fellow promoted teams Leeds United and Burnley have combined so far.

    • Enzo le Fee - from Roma - £19.3m
    • Habib Diarra - from Strasbourg - £30m
    • Noah Sadiki - from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise - Reported £15m
    • Reinildo Mandava - from Atletico Madrid - Free
    • Chemsdine Talbi - from Club Brugge - Reported £18m (£2.5m)
    • Simon Adingra - from Brighton - £21m

Right, time for a little bit of a recap.

Throughout the day we've been asking you for your favourite 'one that got away' when it comes to football transfers.

Here are some of our favourites so far...

Special mention goes to QPR's attempts to appoint Zinedine Zidane as manager.

Both Schmeichel and Solskjaer were Liverpool fans and were certainly looked at. Schmeichel even had a two-week trial I believe. Given one of the big issues in the Liverpool team of that era was the lack of an effective goalkeeper, what a difference he could have made!

Gerrard to Chelsea in mid 2000s. Fully confident Jose could have made Gerrard-Lampard purr in a way no England manager could and have exerted a decade of dominance. Likely delivering two more Premier League and Champions League titles each.

    Dan

The Champions League semi-final between Liverpool and Chelsea in 2004/05 has a completely different ending if Gerrard wore a blue jersey. Mourinho would have also potentially delivered a Champions League trophy to Chelsea in his first season. And also gone back-to-back as European champion, carrying over from his triumph with Porto. Legacy and history changing transfer that would have been.

On that note, happy birthday to Gareth Bale. The Welsh legend turn 36 today. From jaw-dropping moments for Real Madrid to leading Wales to their first Euros appearance in 2016 and a historic World Cup appearance with his country in 2022, Bale has given football fans more than a few unforgettable moments including that ridiculous overhead kick against Liverpool in the Champions League final.

The five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid hung up his boots in January 2023, but his legacy as arguably the greatest ever British export to European football firmly remains in tact.

Oh, and yes - he's probably celebrating with a round of golf today, maybe in Northern Ireland. Wonder what's going on there this weekend?

Speaking of signings that got away, one player that got away from Birmingham City is former Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur legend Gareth Bale.

In October 2009, reports , externalemerged that Birmingham City were willing to pay £3m for Bale. The Welsh legend was a left-back then and had failed to make his mark at Spurs after arriving from Southampton in 2007. What made it worse was the Bale curse that followed Tottenham; Spurs were on a 24-game winless streak whenever Bale was involved.

However, Bale needed time and a position change. As soon as that happened, the player transformed and the club transformed primarily because of his performances.

Birmingham City had their chance but the deal never came to fruition. Definitely the one that got away for The Blues.
