Arthur Read and Jack Payne scored late on for Colchester to defeat MK Dons and collect their first points of the League Two season.
With 10 minutes of normal time remaining, Samson Tovide found Read, with the substitute then calmly slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.
Payne’s audacious effort in the fourth minute of stoppage time rose beyond Tom McGill and secured all three points for the home side.
MK Dons missed a promising opportunity in the early stages of the match.
Stephen Wearne broke the U’s offside trap before being forced around Colchester goalkeeper Matt Macey. Wearne found Tom Carroll inside the 18-yard box, but he blazed his effort over the crossbar.
Just minutes after coming on, Read got onto the scoresheet and sent the home crowd into raptures.
Payne then caressed the ball above McGill in the visiting goal from the left-hand side of the box.
It means that Danny Cowley’s side have three points after first two league games, while Mike Williamson’s outfit remain pointless.
