    I can't begin to imagine how difficult that was for the players to listen to You'll Never Walk Alone and the minute's silence, it would have been extremely difficult.

    They'll want to win another title in his honour now.

    Preston's captain Ben Whiteman laid a wreath in front of the Liverpool fans and bowed his head during that very emotional version of You'll Never Walk Alone.

    The fans were signing Jota's name too.

    Liverpool will retire the number 20 shirt in memory of Diogo Jota.

    The Reds took the decision after consulting with Jota's wife Rute Cardoso and his family which means the Portugal international "will forever be Liverpool's number 20".

    A Liverpool statement, external said the number "will be retired in honour and memory of Diogo across all levels", including the women's team and throughout the academy.

    They added: "The move is recognition of not only the immeasurable contribution our lad from Portugal made to the Reds' on-pitch successes over the last five years, but also the profound personal impact he had on his team-mates, colleagues and supporters and the everlasting connections he built with them."

    The Liverpool supporters packing out the Bill Shankly Kop at Deepdale are already singing for Diogo Jota.

    The Portuguese forward's song - about him taking Liverpool to victory - has soundtracked the past five years of Liverpool's success under Jurgen Kopp and Arne Slot.

    It was Diogo Jota's smile, it was something that everyone always used to talk about. His smile on the football pitch was incredible.

    He was a very humble person. I live in the same area and he was always signing autographs for children and being accommodating.

    There are quite a lot of flags paying tribute to Diogo Jota at Deepdale.

    A fair few contain the words to the song that Liverpool fans sang about the Portugal forward.

    I suspect we'll hear that a fair few times this afternoon and throughout the season.

    This is Liverpool's first pre-season game of the summer, with the squad returning to training this week.

    Reds boss Arne Slot told the official Liverpool website, external on Sunday morning that players should "follow emotions" while dealing with Jota's passing.

    He said it is up to individual players if they want to train or not at this stage.

    He's named a starting XI that contains a number of first-team regulars, with some youngsters also included.

    Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is making his debut after joining the club from Valencia this summer, while Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are among the other starters.

    Summer acquisitions Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman are on the bench at Deepdale.

    Preston have produced a commemorative matchday programme in memory of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

    The 16-page edition includes photos of the brothers, articles on the life and career of Jota, as well as tributes from across the world of football.

    The programme is being given out to fans free of charge outside the stadium.

    Before kick-off, there will be a rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone and Preston will lay a wreath alongside the away supporters.

    A minute's silence will be observed in memory of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva and tributes will be shown on screens inside the ground.

    Both sets of players will also black armbands.

    Today is Liverpool's first game since the death of forward Diogo Jota in a car crash 10 days ago.

    The Portugal forward's brother Andre Silva also died in the accident, which took place in the Spanish province of Zamora.

    The 25-year-old was also a professional footballer, with Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel.
