Spurs, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, all possible trophy winners. Who's the best team in London Arteta?

    MC

More bad news for Arsenal fans. Potentially they're the only team in the top 5 without a trophy this season. And even Spurs could have a better season than Arsenal despite league position!

Would we complain if Cardiff City (bottom of the Championship) won the FA cup to get into the Europa League? No. Would we complain if they went on to win that? No. They would deserve it because they are the prizes for winning.

    Anon

You have to be in the competition to win it. I suspect a lot of people's comments regarding Spurs and Man Utd not being worthy of a Champions League place by winning the Europa League are jealous that their team isn't in our position. COYS!

    Tom, Iwade

I think it is a success if Utd or Spurs win. They would have won the second biggest European trophy and qualified to compete in the biggest. Yes league positioning not great but Champions League football is what most of the top teams strive for. And to gain it winning a trophy is even better.

More from Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, speaking to TNT Sports: "I'm just worried about the next game, trying to not get any injuries for the final. If we don't win the final, it means nothing for us.

"We have to have a full squad [against Tottenham], stay in the game and have a bit of luck and we have to be clinical.

"It's quite similar for me and Ange [Postecoglou]. It is a tough moment [for us both] and one of us is going to win. It's going to be a big final and we will try to win.

"It's hard to describe what it's like to be manager of this club and you want to give them [the fans] something because we were so disappointing in the Premier League. We want to give something to the fans."

Ah, when you put it like that....

In the Premier League, Manchester United have only beaten Southampton and Ipswich at Old Trafford in 2025.

In Europe they've just thrashed the fourth best team in Spain. Make it make sense!

Joe, of those 16 goals, 12 were in the Europa League (in 3 matches) and just 4 in 3 EPL matches in which they picked up one point … do I need to clarify my point?

As a United fan, it pains me to say it but I have zero confidence in beating Spurs in the final. They've already done us three times this season and this trophy is going to mean so much more for them than it will us. I think they'll score a couple of early goals which will render the match over by half time. We'll be the laughing stock for the summer.

    Harry, Manchester

Nothing spursy about last night's performance. Mentally strong, professional, Smart. I think Spurs will win, they press better and as a team and would likely have 8 starts if you done a combined Xl. They have the only real superstar on the pitch with Micky VDV.

    Dominic

I would bet my house on Man United beating Tottenham. Actually I wouldn't, but hopefully you know what I mean. Man U always win finals don't they?

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, speaking to TNT Sports last night: "It's the least we can do for these fans, for the support they have given us in this tough season. I'm stressed already because of the final. If we don't do it, it means nothing, but we're happy to be there so let's see.

"I know I should be a better manager and the team should be better at this moment but we're trying. We did quite well in Europe but we are struggling in the Premier League."

On two-goal Mason Mount: "I'm so happy for him. He is such a player. He works really hard, he has quality. I really like Kobbie Mainoo, just 10 minutes but everything he did was really good and sometimes you're on the bench and can change the game.

"When you see that kind of guy like Mason working hard every day, eating well, having ice baths, when you have this kind of player you just want to help him. He is perfect for this position as he can be a midfielder, but also runs like a winger so I'm really happy for him.

"When you have a full squad you can think about the game. Sometimes we're surviving with people in different positions, but with more options you can change the game and push forwards and these things can help you win games."

No-one is suggesting United or Spurs don't 'deserve' a place in the final. Whether or not they deserve a Champions League place is also a non-story though. The question should be, is it enough for their fans to want to keep them. If either club thinks their manager is the answer, I'd be surprised. On the face of it Ange has done better than Amorin, whose points record is absolutely appalling. But he's a hard man to sympathise with atm.

    Bob in Andover.

The way United & Spurs seasons have gone, rather than the final becoming a cagey affair it could become a mistake-ridden kamikaze game of football which would be extremely stressful for both sets of fans. But here's hoping it ends up becoming a great spectacle and may the best team on the night win!

    Matt, Preston

I think the ease in which both teams won the semi-final speaks a lot for the quality of the Europa League when we have two bottom-half-of-the-table clubs in the final of what's meant to be the second best competition. Don't even get me started on the pointlessness of the Conference League. Either way, as an Arsenal fan I'm now backing Amorim to win.

Sticking with Manchester United, anyone else noticed just how many goals they seem to be scoring at the moment?

Sixteen from their past six games.

    Man Utd 5-4 Lyon

    Man Utd 0-1 Wolves

    Bournemouth 1-1 Man Utd

    Ath Bilbao 0-3 Man Utd

    Brentford 4-3 Man Utd

    Man Utd 4-1 Ath Bilbao

I'll do some digging and see if I can find any decent stats.

I thought this final was painful coming from a West Ham fans perspective but just imagine how Arsenal fans feel this morning...out of the Champions League and either Spurs or Man U winning the Europa League and potentially also Chelsea winning a cup also. Madness!

The smile across Mount's face as he took part in a walk of honour with the rest of his team-mates at the end of the game told its own story about the 26-year-old's stalled career.

An integral part of the England side that reached the final of Euro 2020, Mount's career has never got going following his move north from Chelsea in 2023.

Injury has followed injury and frustration has piled on frustration.

Yet United head coach Ruben Amorim has said on more than one occasion that Mount could be just the right man to fit his system, either in one of the two advanced attacking roles or in midfield.

Others have been more sceptical and even on this latest comeback, which began five weeks ago, there have been precious few signs of the talent of old.

How much of a weight is lifted off Mount's shoulders with his double effort remains to be seen.

But both finishes underlined an inherent confidence that has been retained despite all the doubts repeated setbacks bring.

Mount can only hope it marks a screeching U-turn on what has gone before.

Last night, Mason Mount ended 20 months of torment with a brilliant second half double as Manchester United booked an all-English Europa League final with Tottenham in Bilbao on 21 May.

On an anxious, nervy, mistake-ridden night at Old Trafford, fingernails were starting to get chewed at the sight of the home side making it so hard for themselves despite starting the second-leg of their semi-final with Athletic Bilbao holding a three-goal advantage.

But Mount chose exactly the right time to step up.

Beset by a succession of injuries that have limited the England man to just 10 Premier League starts since his £55m move from Chelsea in 2023, Mount had only been on the pitch 10 minutes when he turned onto Leny Yoro's short pass inside the Bilbao penalty area.

Mount's strike was true and arrowed into the far corner.

It was his third United goal but it was by far the most important and ended lingering fears the visitors might become the first side in 134 attempts in Uefa competitions to overturn a three-goal first leg deficit away from home.

But there was more to come.

After Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund had steered United into a winning lead, Mount pounced on a loose ball 45 yards out and floated a superb shot into an empty net.

The goal capped a memorable Old Trafford night and maintained United's unbeaten record in the competition.
