I think there were things there [against Manchester City] from Ruben Amorim’s perspective to say ‘I like what I saw, I want to see more of it’ and that's probably why he has gone unchanged tonight.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles can count stars such as Bukayo Saka, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden among his former team-mates.

But it is young Lyon sensation Rayan Cherki the ex-Arsenal man describes as the "best natural talent" he has ever seen.

"He is the best natural talent I've ever seen," Maitland-Niles tells BBC Sport. "An absolute master, a wizard with the ball."

Cherki, 21, has nine goals and 18 assists in 36 games this season across all competitions but individual moments, like his two mazy dribbles to set up Malick Fofana goals against Rangers or his wonderful vision to pick out striker Georges Mikautadze against PSG have made the headlines.

"He is taking chances, assists and dragging us up the pitch by taking people on and nutmegging them - he is a genius," adds Maitland-Niles.

All things considered this is currently manager Ange Postecoglou's best XI.

The pressure on this game means he has gone all in on picking his best side in terms of physicality and form against Eintracht Frankfurt.

That includes 19-year-old midfielder Lucas Bergvall but he is one booking away from a suspension and he would miss the second leg in Germany if he gets a yellow card today.

This is a rare opportunity for Lyon's former AC Milan boss Paulo Fonseca to manage his team from the technical area.

Early in March he was given a nine-month ban from domestic games for angrily confronting a referee.

He is barred from the dugout and from communicating with his bench until 30 November, but will be allowed access to the dressing rooms and tunnel area from 15 September.

Fonseca, however, is allowed to be in the technical area for Uefa fixtures.

Spurs face the almighty task of trying to overcome Eintracht Frankfurt to reach the Europa League last four.

But, if Spurs were to manage it, they would take on either Bodo/Glimt or Lazio for a spot in the final.

Brothers Inaki and Nico Williams will be "a real handful" for Rangers, according to interim boss Barry Ferguson.

Inaki Williams, who plays on the right wing for Athletic Bilbao, is the Spanish side's leading scorer in the Europa League this season, registering five goals and one assist in 10 matches.

Left-winger Nico, meanwhile, has chalked up four goals and two assists.

The pair also have a combined 22 goal involvements in La Liga this season, although it's worth noting that Bilbao have failed to score in their past two matches.

Addressing the threats posed by Athletic Bilbao, Ferguson said: "They have got quality all over the team, certainly in the wide areas. The two Williams brothers, they are going to be a real handful.

"I look at the midfield, technically they are very good and very hard-working, and defensively [they're] really solid."

Gerard Houllier's memory lives on in this part of the world.

Lyon were top dogs in France when he took charge of them after six years as Liverpool boss.

Houllier, who sadly died in December 2020 aged 73, led Lyon to back-to-back titles in 2005-06 and 2006-07 before leaving and later managing Aston Villa.

His face is on the walls outside the Groupama Stadium.

There are a lot of Spurs supporters arriving early for this match in the unseasonable London sun but there is a sense of tension around this match with Eintracht Frankfurt.

For them, for Ange Postecoglou and the players involved - this is the last chance at redemption in a terrible season.

If they can win, they give their season some meaning but if they get knocked out then the knives will be out and the post mortem on a disappointing season will begin.

  10. Postecoglou full of praise for Johnsonpublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 10 April

Tottenham v Eintracht Frankfurt (20:00 BST)

Brennan Johnson has now scored 16 times for Spurs this season, although Sunday's double in the 3-1 win over Southampton were his first home goals in 2025.

Boss Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for the 23-year-old: "I was really pleased for him, not just goals but his general [play] was really good," said Postecoglou. "He's important for us. As a wide player, there aren't many around that are a constant goal threat like he is.

"With Brennan, he's always in the areas we need him to be. He's probably one of the most disciplined players we have in terms of making sure he's always in the right positions and that's why he gets his goals."

Rangers finished eighth in the league phase, edging out Bodo/Glimt, Anderlecht, and FCSB to advance straight through to the last 16.

They won four of their eight matches, beating Malmo, FCSB, Nice, and Union Saint-Gilloise, but failed to string together consecutive wins. They also played out 1-1 draws with Olympiacos and Tottenham and suffered defeats to Lyon and Manchester United.

In the last 16, they beat Fenerbahce 3-1 in Turkey before losing 2-0 in the second leg at Ibrox. Jack Butland stepped up with two saves as Rangers won the subsequent penalty shootout 3-2.

Athletic Bilbao, meanwhile, finished second, level on points with table-toppers Lazio, after winning six of their eight league matches. They dropped points away at Roma (1-1) and Besiktas (4-1).

Rome once again proved an unhappy hunting ground in the last 16, with Bilbao losing the first leg 2-1. However, a 3-1 win on home soil saw them overturn the deficit to book their spot in the last eight.

After Paris St-Germain's win over Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday, Lyon are looking to make it a French double over Premier League opposition.

The seven-time champions of France are very much in the race to qualify for next season's Champions League via Ligue 1.

They currently sit fifth in the table, two points and two places off earning an automatic spot in Europe's elite competition.

As well as Nemanja Matic, their squad includes England international and ex-Arsenal player Ainsley Maitland-Niles and former Gunners striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Lyon have won seven of their 10 Europa League games this season - including a 4-1 win over Rangers in Glasgow.

Filip Jorgensen has had very little work to do tonight, but he had to be sharp there.

Chelsea fail to clear their lines after a deep cross into the area, Legia work the ball back in and Patryk Kun takes a fierce shot from the angle that Jorgensen has to beat away at his near post.

Good reactions from the big Dane.
