A very good start for those chasing Walsall at the top.

Third-placed Doncaster wasted no time getting their noses in front at Accrington, Harry Clifton finding the back of the net after two minutes.

Fifth-placed Bradford have taken the lead against MK Dons through Antoni Sarcevic.

An early bath for Ian Holloway at Swindon, the mercurial manager has been sent off in that one.

Mixed fortunes at the bottom. Neil Harris' second spell in charge of bottom side Cambridge has started well, they lead Stockport.

Not such good news for second-bottom Shrewsbury. An Aaron Pierre own goal has given visitors Stevenage the 1-0 advantage.

The chase is on to catch Walsall, and Doncaster are right in the mix. A fifth win in seven could move Grant McCann’s men to the head of the chasing pack by the end of play. 21st placed Accrington Stanley have the task of stopping Rovers this afternoon.

A mis-match of form at Valley Parade, as Bradford who sit fifth and have lost just one of their last 12 in League Two come up against MK Dons, who have won once on their travels since October.

Doncaster and Bradford are one of several clubs who could end the day second in the table, and Notts County are another. Tranmere – winless in eight – are the visitors today, and Nigel Adkins will be desperate to start hauling his side away from the relegation zone.

Just eight points separate second and ninth in the table going into this afternoon’s games, and it’s Dave Artell’s Grimsby who prop up the promotion race mini league. A fourth straight win against a Fleetwood side who haven’t scored in three games will keep them right in the mix.

Just four points separate Chesterfield in 10th and Swindon in 17th, and those two go head-to-head at the County Ground.

Bottom side Carlisle are still seeking their first win under new boss Mark Hughes, and the Cumbrians will be desperately hoping that comes against Gillingham – who make the 550-mile round trip up north.

Bromley’s first game in the English Football League came away at Harrogate back in August, and they host the Sulphurites looking to continue a solid debut season in the EFL.

Elsewhere, Newport in 15th host Cheltenham in 14th.

  17. Street or Sharp to make the difference?published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    Accrington v Doncaster (15:00 GMT)

    Naz Premji
    Final Score at Wham Stadium

A real bottom v top clash here at the Wham Stadium and everything on paper points towards an away win.

But Doncaster haven't won here since 1947 and haven't scored in three of their last five visits here so history is against Rovers.

Both these sides played Morecambe last time out, Accrington lost and Doncaster won.

It is so finely poised and it could be one of those games that is decided by who gets on top early doors and with that in mind the likes of Rob Street and Billy Sharp may play a big part in this one for Grant McCann's side.

  18. Vale eye a return to automatic promotion spotpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

Port Vale v Salford (15:00 GMT)

Port Vale captain Nathan Smith is confident that Port Vale can challenge for promotion this season and last week's win over an in-form Notts County has done wonders to boost that belief.

Once top of the league, Vale got caught up with a mixed bag of results to see them drop into the play-off spots but are on a seven league game unbeaten streak to keep their automatic promotion hopes alive.

"Momentum's massive in football. We went on a losing streak and it was difficult to get out of it. Now we're on a winning streak we have to make the most of it," Smith told BBC Radio Stoke.

"We're showing what we're capable of - people know we're strong, we're powerful and we're ready to battle."

With just three points between them and third place Doncaster Rovers, the Valiants will have the opportunity to take their spot in the top three this afternoon but will have to get past a Salford City side teetering on the edge of play-offs and desperate to burst through.

  19. Battle of the undefeated at Colchesterpublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

Colchester v AFC Wimbledon (15:00 GMT)

When it comes to form, no other teams in League Two can boast better than Colchester United and AFC Wimbledon.

The U's are on a run of seven games undefeated (W4 D3), beating league leaders Walsall and drawing against automatic promotion contenders Notts County in that time.

In fact, Colchester have only lost two of their past 18 league games to see them in with a real chance of making a promotion push (W7 D9).

Already in position though are today's visitors AFC Wimbledon, who haven't been beaten in nine League Two matches and now sit second in the table, hoping to challenge Walsall for the title.

Today could see either side have to relinquish their streak and worse yet, lose out on three points both will feel they need to meet their ambitions.

  20. League One round-uppublished at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

All the talk in the League One promotion race might revolve around the Hollywood storylines of Birmingham and Wrexham, but let’s not forget Wycombe.

The Chairboys sit second in the League One table and could stretch their advantage over Wrexham, who play tomorrow, to eight points with a win at home to Wigan this afternoon.

Indeed, Phil Parkinson’s Reds could end the day in fifth if both Huddersfield and Stockport County come away with maximum points this afternoon. County visit rock-bottom Cambridge, who welcome back Neil Harris for a second spell in the dugout after Garry Monk’s departure last weekend.

Five wins in six have catapulted Leyton Orient into the promotion race, largely thanks to five wins in seven away games. Victory today would be their first at Bolton since 1970. Given the hosts have won four of their last five, that won’t be easy.

If Orient do slip up, another beneficiary could be Charlton. The Addicks host Exeter this afternoon – having only lost once at home to the Grecians in 18 attempts.

Draw specialists Blackpool host Crawley, but will be hoping to end a run of eight straight home draws with all three points this afternoon. The chances of this one ending all square increase when you consider Crawley draw 1-1 with Wigan last time out, and came away from their only previous visit to Blackpool with a 0-0 draw in 2017.

Lincoln and Stevenage will look to keep up their faint play-off hopes at home to Burton and away at second-bottom Shrewsbury respectively.

Important games at both ends of the table as ever, this afternoon.
