This will be the first competitive meeting between Northampton Town and Barnsley since August 2016, a League Cup first round tie which the Cobblers won 2-1 after extra-time – their fourth consecutive win over the Tykes in all competitions.
Barnsley last faced Northampton in league competition in 2002-03, losing both meetings that term.
Northampton have lost each of their last two league games – not since December 2020, also in League One, have the Cobblers lost three successive league matches (run of four).
Barnsley, who have won each of their last two away league games without conceding, could win three in a row for the first time since October 2022, keeping three clean sheets during those wins also.
