  1. Moyes out, Maresca in...published at 10:39 BST

    Sam Drury
    BBC Sport journalist

    Thanks, Ben.

It's all go today so no sooner has David Moyes departed, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has appeared.

So we'll have the best of his quotes shortly.

  2. Postpublished at 10:36 BST

    Ben Ramsdale

That's your lot from what seemed a never-ending David Moyes news conference.

I'm running to run and grab a coffee while I have 30 seconds to breathe and handing the reins to Sam Drury.

We aren't stopping there though, it's straight into Enzo Maresca now!

  3. 'I need to shorten the gulf between the clubs'published at 10:35 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes: "I think it's about having a realism on where the two clubs are. I need to try and shorten the gulf between them.

"At the moment Liverpool are champions and probably favourites for the Champions League and we are Everton who have just come out of three or four difficult seasons so trying to bridge that gap is quite difficult to do."

  4. 'They've spent more on one player than we did on our squad'published at 10:33 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on Liverpool's spending: "You have to earn the right [to spend]. You have to win and be in the big competitions to make the money and I found at West ham three years in Europe allowed us to spend money so from that point of view I think Liverpool are entitled to [spend].

"I heard Arne [Slot] defending himself about that he has brought in a lot and he certainly has done.

"I still think that they've spent more on one player than we have done on a whole squad."

  5. 'Garner playing as well as any English midfielder'published at 10:30 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on James Garner out of position: "Leighton Baines has had a roll in everything because we are all involved in trying to prepare the players and get them ready for the games.

"I think Jimmy [Garner] is playing as well as anybody at the moment and I think he's probably playing as well as any English midfield player in the country at the moment as well.

"He's had to play a few games at left-back and he's done really well and shown his versatility and we know that if we have to use him we can do that. Ultimately, his form as a midfield player has been really good."

  6. Moyes 'aware' of Liverpool's late threatpublished at 10:27 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

Everton manager David Moyes on Liverpool's late winners: "The better sides tend to sort of wear you down a little bit and concentration changes. In the main we've shown resilience in defence so we'll be looking to maintain that.

"We are all aware [of their late goals], it was the same with [Sir Alex] Fergie, he used to be getting Fergie time and in the referees ear saying they need to get one second extra time and getting late goals because his team kept preparing themselves to score and I see that as the same with Liverpool."

Early goals, Late goals. It doesn’t matter when it’s 12 points from 12. It should easily become 15 from 15 by 2.30 tomorrow. The difference in quality between the two teams you could park a few buses in-between!!

    Chris, Liverpool

  8. Moyes not concerned by lack of shots on targetpublished at 10:22 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on xG: "I like to look at [just] shots because that is sort of telling us... I mean if you actually look in to what it means we actually had quite a few shots blocked [in our last match] because of very good defending from Aston Villa.

"There's parts of that we have to look in to and see what we can take out of it. I hope it can continue and we can have 20 shots against Liverpool at Anfield tomorrow."

  9. 'We are up against it'published at 10:20 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on enjoying the derby: "I think I'd been lying if I said yes. It's a lot easier if you are with the team that has the strongest squad and I think we are up against it.

"We have to go there and fight for everything we can and be competitive and make sure that we play where we've showed signs of improving and make sure we show that in the game.

To respond to Rob: Liverpool had the highest xG difference out of any club last season. Essentially we were expected to have the highest goal difference. Also expected to have the highest amount of points. There was no luck involved.

    Fin, Liverpool

Rob Sutton, Liverpool have too much all over the pitch for Everton. And lucky? Absolutely cantered winning the league last season, nothing to do with luck. Typical bitter outlook.

    Andy, Liverpool

  11. Liverpool utilising their benchpublished at 10:16 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on Liverpool's late winners: "They've got a strength which a lot of the clubs have and I heard Mikel [Arteta] call them 'finishers' the other day.

"I think you should be able to bring people off the bench and maybe help to change the game and certainly have an impact. Teams are using it [the bench] and certainly teams at the top of the league who have so many games and play a lot are needing the extra players.

"We have as well, we think we have got people who are not always starters who we think can come on and finish the game."

  12. 'Liverpool have shown vulnerability'published at 10:14 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on Liverpool's weaknesses: "I certainly wouldn't tell you [what I'll tell my players] because that would be giving it away but your question is a good one in as much as Liverpool have shown at different times where they have been very good but other times when they have shown some vulnerability when they have conceded goals.

"We will have to try and take advantage of those moments as well. We played them last year at Anfield and lost to an offside goal and we want to try and run them close again and maybe this time things will go in our favour."

I can see Everton winning this one, Moyes is a cunning tactician at times and I think Grealish & Dewsbury-Hall will target Frimpong and Konate on the break.

  14. 'A chance to see where we are'published at 10:10 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on how the players view the derby: "If you've played in derbies or if you've been involved in any then you'll know it's always hugely important to win it if you can that's the job.

"I think everyone is fully aware of it, it is led by the media and the supporters and it's such a big game and it has come quite early in the season this one but it will give us a chance to see where we are against one of the top teams."

  15. 'Liverpool have a number of talented footballers'published at 10:08 BST

Everton manager David Moyes on his plans for Alexander Isak: "I can't focus on the Liverpool players, I've got to focus on getting my own players ready and fit for the game and get them performing well.

"Undoubtedly you have to consider that they have got some really talented footballers and Isak is another one of them."

  16. 'Slot has done a fantastic job'published at 10:06 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

    Arne SlotImage source, Getty Images

Everton manager David Moyes on the challenge of facing Liverpool: "They've brought in a lot of really good players, over recent years Jurgen Klopp's teams have been fantastic and I think Arne Slot has come in and done a fantastic job for this club since he arrived.

"They've gone and bought some top players, so they've looked to improve again but I think we've improved as well and I think from that point of view I have to look at us and what we're doing and I want us to keep improving and getting better if we can."

Is it me but do Liverpool look shaky at the back? They were one of the most luckiest teams last season! Their defence was comical at times but they managed to get through it! Not sure that’s gonna happen this season! Everton can win this weekend mark my words!

  18. 'This has always been a difficult game for me'published at 10:03 BST

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on what a Merseyside derby is like: "Any big derby in any big city is always really important.

"This has always been an incredibly difficult game for me personally because we've always come up against a very good Liverpool team whenever it's been and teams who have had some great players over the years and made it really hard for us.

"We have always been competitive and that will not change and we will do everything we can to get a victory."

  19. 'We are in a much better place'published at 10:01 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager David Moyes on Liverpool and Everton: "I think the gap between the two clubs during my first stint was as close as it has ever been. We finished above them a couple of times but I've got to say it's been hard because they have been such a successful football club in winning trophies and we've had to sort of live with that and get on with our own problems that we've had

"I think certainly now we are in a much better place and we look as if we are heading towards a much better place as well."

  20. 'We are looking forward to going to Anfield'published at 09:59 BST

Everton manager David Moyes on the build-up to a Merseyside derby: "Football has changed a lot of ways for coaches and managers, there is a lot more games now and a lot more opportunities to watch games live than maybe there was years ago.

"I have to say, we have another game and we prepare for it and we want to keep our good form going and we look forward to going to Anfield and see how we perform."
