Everton manager David Moyes on the challenge of facing Liverpool: "They've brought in a lot of really good players, over recent years Jurgen Klopp's teams have been fantastic and I think Arne Slot has come in and done a fantastic job for this club since he arrived.

"They've gone and bought some top players, so they've looked to improve again but I think we've improved as well and I think from that point of view I have to look at us and what we're doing and I want us to keep improving and getting better if we can."

Is it me but do Liverpool look shaky at the back? They were one of the most luckiest teams last season! Their defence was comical at times but they managed to get through it! Not sure that’s gonna happen this season! Everton can win this weekend mark my words!

Everton manager David Moyes on what a Merseyside derby is like: "Any big derby in any big city is always really important.

"This has always been an incredibly difficult game for me personally because we've always come up against a very good Liverpool team whenever it's been and teams who have had some great players over the years and made it really hard for us.

"We have always been competitive and that will not change and we will do everything we can to get a victory."

Everton manager David Moyes on Liverpool and Everton: "I think the gap between the two clubs during my first stint was as close as it has ever been. We finished above them a couple of times but I've got to say it's been hard because they have been such a successful football club in winning trophies and we've had to sort of live with that and get on with our own problems that we've had

"I think certainly now we are in a much better place and we look as if we are heading towards a much better place as well."

Everton manager David Moyes on improving the squad: "I've told the players that we want to go away from the position we have been in for the last few years, it's been difficult for the managers, it's been difficult for the club and the players especially over the last few years.

"We want to enjoy it and we want to try and play better and win more often and we are trying desperately to challenge the big teams and we will try and do that throughout the season."

Everton manager David Moyes on getting the squad together: "I think we have started well enough and I hoped we'd have got off to a good start and not be down near the bottom of the league and closer to the top.

"It gives us something to hang on to and something to fight for. We didn't get all the players we wanted to in the window but I think most managers would probably say that. We've got a fair amount and we got quite a bit of work done in the summer and hopefully we are moving in the right direction."

No way are we beating Everton 2-0 (Sutton’s prediction) - I can see Moyes adopting a low block and frustrating us and even winning, as we played on Weds and Everton had a whole week of rest. A most curious prediction.

  16. Moyes must overcome Anfield recordpublished at 09:33 BST

Liverpool v Everton (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    BBC Sport

    Moyes' Anfield record

Everton have yet to win at Liverpool's home ground in front of a crowd in the 21st Century.

Their only triumph there in the past 25 years came during the Covid pandemic in 2021 under the stewardship of Carlo Ancelotti, with their last win with fans in 1999.

Moyes has failed in all of his 22 attempts, with a number of clubs, to win a game at Anfield.

Moyes has overseen 22 matches at Anfield over his career, drawing seven and losing 15. He has travelled with Everton 13 times, losing on six occasions.

It is a record reflective of Moyes' managerial struggles away to the biggest sides.

He has endured the four longest runs of a manager of one club visiting the same side without ever winning in the Premier League – with similarly awful records away to Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
