    Man City 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

New Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford's first game on home soil didn't go to plan on Saturday lunchtime.

With fellow stopper Ederson watching on from the bench, the England under-21 international gifted Tottenham Hotspur their second goal of the game when attempting to play out from the back.

Speaking on BBC's Final Score, former Premier League striker Chris Sutton says he would choose the Brazilian "every single day of the week" over Trafford.

This is probably going to be controversial but this has to be Bruno's last season at Utd. He's not the player we need in midfield. Sell him and use the money to buy Baleba & Wharton. Those two are just what we need in midfield.

  3. 'I feel sorry' for Trafford 'but he's going to have to mature quickly'published at 13:25 British Summer Time

Former Premier League midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker says he feels sorry for Manchester City's goalkeeper James Trafford after a difficult home debut but that "he has to adapt" quickly if he is to keep the number one spot.

"I feel sorry for the young lad. When you go to City, you become a player that is indebted to Pep Guardiola's system. It is not about you or your freedom and creativity, it is about the system, so if it doesn't work like how Guardiola wants then you won't play," Reo-Coker said on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"It is a tough job for such a young goalkeeper to go into that team. At Burnley, where he was sensational, he wasn't playing out from the back all the time.

"His job was shot-stopping and he was fantastic that, but at City he needs a whole different skill set. You can see that he is still a bit nervous, but he's going to have to mature quickly because this is what comes with playing for City.

"He has to adapt and trying get himself to be better because there's no other way."

Man City aren’t as scary as what they used to be.

I think Pep [Gurdiola] has bought in some fantastic attacking players and they obviously have a hell of a lot of ability, but I don’t think teams are quite as afraid of them they were probably two years ago.

  5. 'We missed the simple things'published at 13:09 British Summer Time

Speaking after watching his side fall to a first Premier League defeat of the season, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said his players "missed the simple things" but "gave everything".

For me VAR should be used like the TMO (Television Match Official) in rugby where the official can point out areas missed by the on field team. Plus the TMO and ref can look together on the big screen so everyone can see what's happening. I don't understand the secrecy football insists on.

    Man City 0-2 Tottenham

Pep Guardiola has now lost 10 games against Tottenham.

That is the joint-most number of defeats he has suffered as a manager against a club, level with Real Madrid and Liverpool.

It’s all going well isn’t it? They look really good, they’ve started the league really well, he’s changed the team, changed the players, both games changed the formation.

He [Thomas Frank] is willing to mix things up and get the players in and it feels like he has a squad that he can do that with, which is really good to see.

You can see there’s a real confidence within the group as well. As soon as a manager comes in and he gives you that confidence, it makes the world a difference, they just feel like a solid unit now. To go to City away and win two nil, that was a big, big result

Agree with Graham Morrisey’s take (12:01) - too many grey areas. VAR needs either to be ditched or used universally. Why for example did Everton not get a corner at Leeds? Line decisions should be meat and drink to VAR officials . Why can’t it intervene? Anyone any idea why?

It will be fascinating to see how the next week plays out for Manchester United.

Of the 'bomb squad', most expect Alejandro Garnacho to end up at Chelsea and Antony to secure a return to Real Betis - but negotiations for both will not be straightforward.

Tyrell Malacia has been attracting interest from Serie A, while there is a suspicion Roma might come back in for Jadon Sancho.

Napoli are expected to make a renewed attempt to bring in Rasmus Hojlund, who was again left out of Ruben Amorim's squad for the Premier League draw at Fulham.

And then we have Senne Lammens, who United are negotiating with Royal Antwerp over but with uncertainty remaining over whether the deal will happen or who, if anyone, will leave if it does.

Arsenal are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

The Gunners want a left-sided defender as a priority this summer, with Ecuador international Hincapie emerging as a strong candidate.

Arsenal's recruitment staff have watched the 23-year-old extensively, sources told BBC Sport.

Hincapie has a 60m euro (£52m) release clause and is keen to leave the German club before the transfer window closes.

He has made 166 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen since joining in 2021 and was part of the squad that won the Bundesliga and German Cup in 2023-24.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Hincapie, but sources insist he is not a player Spurs are currently pursuing.

Drop Casemiro and Mount to bench, start Mainoo and Sesko and rest of starting 11 against Fulham and we might have a chance. United need more freedom to play. Yes defend 100% but teach them to think in the moment and do it different. Too prescribed. Too predictable. Afraid. Get Brave.

  13. 'The signs are so positive' - Warnockpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock was also full of praise for Tottenham's performance.

"Yes it's very early doors, but the signs are so positive," said Warnock.

"It's night and day compared to where Spurs were."

But he added he can't understand why some players aren't choosing to sign for the club.

As an Arsenal fan I think the North London derby will be a lot tighter this season. Hate to say it, but they've actually recruited a a couple of decent players. Just glad we managed to snatch Eze from their grasp

I do have some sympathy for officials and VAR even though there have been some glaring errors in my opinion. The trouble is laws of the game leave grey areas - look at the penalties Everton have conceded as example. The laws need rewriting to be clear and obvious

  17. 'I am falling in love with this club'published at 11:56 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-2 Tottenham

As you'd expect, Tottenham boss Thomas Frank was delighted with his side's 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

He emphasised the importance of keeping a second successive clean sheet, given Spurs kept just six in the Premier League last season.

After two games, are already a third of the way to matching that total...

I don’t understand how VAR can still get so much wrong and far too often. If we can all see these decisions at home then why can’t the people with all those extra camera angles and technology at their fingertips who are being paid a fortune to operate it?

  19. Statement win for Frankpublished at 11:42 British Summer Time

    Man City 0-2 Tottenham

It's a north London one-two at the top of the table after Tottenham celebrated victory over Manchester City in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.

What a result it was for new boss Thomas Frank and his team.

It was a third victory in Spurs' last five visits to the Etihad - it certainly isn't a fixture Pep Guardiola enjoys - and back-to-back opening wins for former Brentford coach Frank.

Have you been impressed by how Tottenham are looking so far?

11 years ago this week Spurs were top with the same points and goal difference, they came 6th that season. I would take that after last season.
