Newport County's fabulous February continued as Kyle Hudlin's late goal gave them a somewhat fortuitous 1-0 win over League Two bottom club Carlisle United.

The Cumbrians will wonder how they got nothing out of a contest where they created several chances, with Stephen Wearne's hesitation allowing Newport a big escape with the score at 0-0.

The missed opportunities for the visitors proved decisive as Hudlin's sixth goal of the season on 76 minutes arrived as he picked his spot from 18 yards out after Bobby Kamwa led a fast counter-attack.

That was Newport's first shot on target in a contest where their goalkeeper Nick Townsend saw a lot more action than his counterpart, but Hudlin's winner ensures the Exiles have now won four successive league games in February to move 16 points clear of the relegation zone.

Carlisle missed the chance to move off the bottom of League Two and remain six points adrift of safety.
