In light of Chelsea winning the Club World Cup, we asked you whether Chelsea are serious title contenders for the 25-26 season.

They've lifted the Conference League trophy and secured Champions League football with a top four finish last term.

Enzo Maresca's side started last season strong and before Christmas there were conversations about whether they were in the title race. The Chelsea boss was always quick to shut any talk of that down, though.

That was probably wise given they hit a tricky-run and the title slipped out of reach, but Malo Gusto and Cole Palmer believe Chelsea were widely disrespected last season.

Victory in New Jersey brings the curtain down on a gruelling but ultimately successful first season for Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

His side have played 64 matches in all competitions over the past 11 months – the joint-second highest total in a single campaign in the club’s history – winning 41 of those games and scoring a total of 137 goals.

In addition to winning the newly expanded Club World Cup, the Blues claimed the Conference League and secured Champions League qualification, but there is little time for Maresca and his staff to put their feet up and rest on their laurels.

There are just 25 days until Chelsea’s first pre-season game, with Bayer Leverkusen the opposition on 8 August, while the Blues’ opening Premier League match of 2025-26 comes against Crystal Palace just over a week later.

  3. Looking ahead for Chelseapublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 14 July

After a long and hot summer in the States, Enzo Maresca's side will be looking to rest a little - though not for too long.

Chelsea have just three weeks and four days until their pre-season fixtures begin.

The Blues will be hosting a pre-season tournament at Stamford Bridge, welcoming two European heavyweights: AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.

As they look to prepare for the 2025/26 season, Chelsea will face Leverkusen on Friday 8th August at 7pm, followed by a clash against the Rossoneri on Sunday, 10 August at 3pm.

It's been an extremely busy period of the Marcesca's men, and I'm sure he'll be looking to rest some of the regular starters following their involvement in the Club World Cup.

A week after their last pre-season game, Chelsea will kick start their Premier League campaign at home against FA Cup holders, Crystal Palace.

We can say Maresca knows tactics after last nights masterclass but what I really liked was the attitude of the players leading up to the game. James straight out said "we will win!" I didn't see Maresca building that kind of winning mentality, they called him mini Pep but is he actually mini Mourinho?

Paris St-Germain boss Luis Enrique wasn’t a happy man after losing to Chelsea, clashing with Joao Pedro after the final whistle. While the Spaniard has masterminded 4-0 wins against both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid at this tournament, plus May’s 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in the Champions League final, he isn’t accustomed to heavy defeats.

This was just the second time his PSG side have been beaten by a three-goal margin, with the other occasion a 4-1 loss away to Newcastle in the Champions League in October 2023. It is also the first time since 2000 that the Parisians have lost a cup final by two-goals or more (excluding Super Cups).

But what did Chelsea's players think about the US President's presence on stage and what did he say to captain Reece James?

PSG have been playing competitively up to 31st May (and no, the Conference League is nowhere near the same level as the Champions League) they were bound to eventually crash. Chelsea had a much simpler run to the final and had the added luxury of starting a new £50m signing who played just 30 games last season. Let's not get carried away. Ultimately, this is a friendly tournament, and hopefully, it's the last time we see it in this format!

It was a final that, at the very least, got people talking. Not just about what happened on the pitch, but certainly off it too. From US president Donald Trump celebrating with Chelsea on stage, to the American national anthem before kick-off, to a half-time show.

    This was football, Americanised.

Across social media, here's some of the best shared content from the night:

All in all, the final was undoubtedly packed with entertainment - though maybe not the kind everyone had in mind.

The players finally emerged from the tunnel, one by one, as they were called out over the tannoy.

Some players were lapping it up, whilst many looked a bit awkward and just quickly got it over with.

American ring announcer Michael Buffer then delivered his iconic "let's get ready to rumble!" line before kick-off as he has done throughout the competition.

For those of you that are sticklers for time, the final was not for you.

The game finally kicked off at 20:10 ... ten minutes late!

I should have started my shift ten minutes late today to be on brand. I definitely missed a trick.

A bit of football followed, a couple of goals were scored and the half-time whistle was blown.

Usually it's time for a pie and a bovril, but not at the Club World Cup because it was showtime 2.0.

If you thought the pre-match show was jazzy then the half-time spectacle was next level.

Taking place on a high-tech stage that was built above the arena - so the pitch could be watered - J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems and Coldplay all featured.

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, the show delayed the kick-off to the second half.

PSG's players stood around on the pitch while the show reached its conclusion and the action eventually got back under way 24 minutes after the half-time whistle had sounded.

Chelsea go into next season off the back of two international tournament wins and with the squad that now finally includes strikers who can put the ball in the back of the net (Pedro and Delap). They also have a big enough squad that they can manage Palmer's workload. Expect Chelsea to finish higher than Arsenal this next season.

Robbie Williams was followed by a tribute to the tournament hosts.

The USA's national anthem was sung, accompanied with a colour guard and a military flyover.

The cameras panned round to President Donald Trump, who was stood saluting, whilst other members of the crowd had their hand on their heart.

A firework display around the outside of the stadium capped off this part of the pre-match entertainment.

Football aside, it was quite the spectacle in New Jersey.

You always know you're in for a show when Robbie Williams appears in a jewelled cream tracksuit.

He was joined by Italian pop star Laura Pausini to perform Fifa's official new anthem, Desire and there was a huge inflatable model of the Club World Cup trophy behind them.

I don't understand what Luis Enrique was doing. Was he slapping Pedro for scoring against his PSG side? I'm sure that's not what losing managers are supposed to do at the end of a game. It was odd enough seeing Coldplay the half-time.

Joao Pedro was a Brighton player less than two weeks ago and he has already won his first major club honour at the Club World Cup.

A lot of people have been highlighting how the 23-year-old was enjoying a well-deserved break on holiday for the majority of the competition (although I don't think he was on an all inclusive going wild at the waffle station and getting a kebab at the end of the night) and joined his new Chelsea team-mates at the semi-final stage.

But it's a good job that he did because his three goals in two appearances helped Chelsea secure World Champion status.

An easy way to become a fan favourite!

  20. Joao Pedro - the striker Chelsea have craved?published at 10:23 British Summer Time 14 July

What a start to life it's been for Joao Pedro at Chelsea.

His three goals at the Club World Cup helped him to silverware within the first fortnight of his time at the club.

Chelsea struggled for goals last term, with the burden on Cole Palmer as Nicolas Jackson struggled for form and fitness.

But Pedro could alleviate those concerns. The Brazilian's three goals at the tournament came from just six shots, which had a combined xG of 0.85.

    Clinical!
