We've already seen eight teams in action in the Women's Champions League, including holders Arsenal, who kicked off their campaigns on Tuesday night.

Marc Skinner's been under a lot of criticism over the years, hasn't he? But they've reached three FA Cup finals in a row, and they've won an FA Cup.

He hasn't got the budget that the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Man City have. Fighting for finding and support from Manchester United, and I think you've got to credit him, his staff and his players and their togetherness.

I think the very shrewd signings of Zigiotti Olme, Jess Park and Fridolina Rolfo are very good signings and they've made a big impact to the team.

I feel like what they've done over a number of years and in pre-season, they've qualified for the Champions League as well for the first time, and what they're doing is working for them.

Catarina Macario hasn't travelled to the Netherlands as an injury precaution.

The American forward, who provided an assist in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Man United last Friday, has an "a bit of inflammation around the Achilles", said head coach Sonia Bompastor.

She is expected to be fit for Chelsea's home league match against Tottenham on Sunday.

Lucy Bronze, Niamh Charles, Naomi Girma, and Lauren James have also remained in England.

Manchester United

An excellent second leg of their qualifying tie against Brann earned Manchester United a spot in the main stage of the Champions League for the first time.

Elisabeth Terland's hat-tricked helped them turn a 1-0 first leg defeat into a 3-1 aggregate victory.

They take on another Norwegian side in Valerenga tonight as they begin their league phase campaign.

I like the league phase. I like it in the men's league phase as well. It's different and I think sometimes it takes you a little bit of time to get used to.

It's 18 teams, similar to the men's league phase, but it throws up games like, Arsenal playing Lyon really early on.

I think Chelsea play Barcelona, Mary Earps is coming back to Man Utd [with PSG]. There's loads of interesting things this can throw up.

The Women's Champions League will mirror the men's tournament this year, moving from a group stage format to a league phase.

It follows the same idea albeit on a smaller scale.

18 teams will compete in the new league phase, playing six matches - three home and three away.

Teams that finish 1st to 4th in the table will qualify automatically for the quarter-finals, while teams that finish 5th to 12th will face off in a two-legged play-off round.

Those that finish between 13th and 18th will be eliminated.

Livia Peng replaces Hannah Hampton in goal while Veerle Buurman, Oriane Jean-Francois, Maika Hamano, Sjoeke Nusken, Alyssa Thomspson, and Guro Reiten also come into the XI.

Nathalie Bjorn, Erin Cuthbert, Keira Walsh, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, and Weike Kaptein drop onto the bench while Catarina Macario misses out with an Achilles problem.

Chelsea XI: Peng, Carpenter, Bright (c), Buurman, Baltimore, Jean-Francois, Hamano, Nusken, Thompson, Reiten, Beever-Jones.

While Chelsea have swept aside all before them in the past decade, the Champions League trophy remains a tough nut to crack.

They did manage to reach the final under former boss Emma Hayes in 2021, although that ended in a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona.

In the last three years they've reached the final four, before falling at the hands of Barcelona again, and again...And again.

Ready for another night of Champions League action?

After Arsenal slumped to an opening night defeat to Lyon on Tuesday, it's Chelsea and Manchester United's turn to make their bow.

Sonia Bompastor's side conquered all before them in England last season, but their continental woes continued. Can they finally win the prize that has always eluded them?

Meanwhile Marc Skinner's side are taking a run at the competition proper for the very first time.
