Emi is on his way from Villa surely. His heart didn’t look in it towards the end of season. Just me curious why he watched Doue’s shot sail past seemingly within reach?

Tony, Halifax: What's next for Kyle Walker? Man City had half a dozen different players turn out at RB last season, will Walker return to City? Is there any chance Milan will sign him permanently? Or, is another destination more likely?

Simon Stone: A very good question Tony. AC Milan could have made the deal permanent but haven't and with no European football this season, I can't see that changing. Pep Guardiola has made it clear he will be moving on from Walker, so that is another avenue closed - although he does still have a contract. I wonder if MLS might be an option, but that is just a thought off the top of my head. He is still a good player - just not as good as he was.

In reply to Jonathan 15.11. Agree and the 5 subs rule makes it increasingly difficult for promoted and smaller PL teams to close the gap. Likes of Chelsea etc can change half the outfield with players most teams can only dream of.

  5. What do Fulham need in the summer transfer window?published at 15:27 British Summer Time 2 June

    Fulham

Fulham flirted with the possibility of securing European football all season only to finish 11th. Some smart business during the summer could help the Cottagers contend for the same goal again next campaign but they could be faced with a battle to keep manager Marco Silva at Craven Cottage.

    Who are they linked with?

According to Sky Sports, Fulham will focus on strengthening their attack in the summer, meaning they will want new wingers on both sides and a young number nine to add to the competition. However, a more pressing issue for them will be the future of their manager. Though the club want to keep Silva, he has only one year left in his contract and is being linked with Italian giants Juventus.

    How much can they spend?

Fulham will likely find themselves with a little more in their budget, although the fact that their wages to revenue ratio is at 85% is a cause for concern. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire says: "Owner Shahid Khan has backed the club extensively in the past and, with manager Marco Silva keen to attract new players, a £100-150m further player investment is possible."

    What about departures?

Kenny Tete, Reiss Nelson, Carlos Vinicius, Tom Cairney and Willian all have their contracts coming to an end this month. Tete and captain Cairney have featured regularly for Marco Silva's side this season and the club would be hoping to sort those situations out sooner rather than later. They also have stars including Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore and Harry Wilson who are entering the final year of their deals.

People seem surprised that Chelsea aren't going for Kelleher. They already have Petrovic, who was Strasbourg's player of the season and is much better than Sanchez and they've already bought Mike Penders from Genk last year. They don't need to buy another keeper in order to upgrade from Sanchez.

  7. Transfers Q&A: What signings will Man Utd make?published at 15:16 British Summer Time 2 June

Ben: Following the signing of Cunha - what other signings can you realistically see Manchester United making this summer?

Simon Stone: Well Ben, clearly a number nine is a priority. Liam Delap turned them down, so Bryan Mbuemo and Jean-Philippe Mateta and others come into the equation.

What that means for Rasmus Hojlund I am not sure. He could be an (expensive) understudy or United could try and sell, although they won't get anything like the £72m they paid for him.

That is the general problem for United and Ruben Amorim this summer. I think they would like to make a lot of signings this summer but they also have a lot of underperforming players under contract who are not worth what they paid for them. Each sale could cost money and they can only get rid of so many.

And we have not even started speaking about Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho yet.

The time has come to cap the number of players a club can register and play in a single season. Chelsea now have so many players that it is beyond ridiculous, and Liam Delap will ultimately regret going there, especially when he is inevitably shipped out on loan. Pep Guardiola was recently complaining his squad was too large (hilarious), but some clubs are accumulating such massive squads that they now don't have to manage injuries etc solely around transfer windows, which is grossly unfair to the clubs on more modest budgets.

  9. Transfers Q&A: Your PSR questions answeredpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 2 June

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

Ian, Harrogate: PSR is meant to be there to protect clubs from going bankrupt if owners put too much debt onto the club. If owners actually wanted to invest their money in the club and not accrue debt, would this be allowed? A share issue possibly to bring in money?

Simon Stone: This is technical Ian. You can do share issues and you can turn debt into equity but then you are looking at altering the structure of the business by making the company bigger. Profit and Sustainability rules relate to operations. So owners can put money in through sponsorship etc but it has to be at fair market value, which is assessed by the Premier League - part of Manchester City's ongoing case relates to allegedly disguising funding, so inflating sponsorship deals. The Premier League rules were changed recently so any owner funding has to attract interest.

On the other side, Manchester United for instance, do not have their Profit and Sustainability situation affected by the actual size debt, but payments made to service the debt do count. The rules are not related to debt per se, they are related to clubs operating within the means and not running up bills they cannot pay.

  10. Transfers Q&A: Should Mainoo be on someone's radar?published at 15:01 British Summer Time 2 June

Si (on his lunch break): Should any of the PL big 6 or wider be looking to pinch Kobbie Mainoo from United? Think I saw some gossip that they'd be open to selling him - and given how in demand controlling, playmaking DMs can be at the moment, he's got to be on someone's radar hasn't he?

Simon Stone: I hope you had a good lunch Si. I certainly think it would be worth inquiring as United's financial position is well known.

However, I would question your assessment of Mainoo. I don't think he could be regarded as a defensive midfielder and don't think he controls the midfield or is a playmaker. I think he is energetic, is excellent at finding space, has good control of the ball in tighter spaces and is a clean striker of the ball. The point about Mainoo is he has so much scope to learn. That is what would attract me.

Now that Chelsea are getting Delap I'm surprised they're not trying to hijack Brentford's move for Kelleher from Liverpool. Less than £50 million for the pair, and they'd fix most of their problems in one window.

  12. Transfers Q&A: What's going on with Joan Garcia?published at 14:51 British Summer Time 2 June

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

Kyan: What's going on with Joan Garcia - are the rumours about Barcelona true, or will Aston Villa or Arsenal still get him?

Simon Stone: Hiya Kyan. This seems virtually done, with Garcia moving to Barcelona. It will be interesting to see how Arsenal, Villa - and Chelsea and Manchester United for that matter - address their goalkeeping department.

Arsenal clearly have David Raya, so they want back up. Villa need to fill a huge void if, as expected Emi Martinez leaves, and Chelsea and United have to at least be looking at improving on what they have now.

  13. Transfers Q&A: Is it possible to estimate available transfer funds for clubs?published at 14:46 British Summer Time 2 June

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

Martin: Given the rules of PSR and the public lodging of company accounts is it now possible to estimate the available transfer funds for every club?

Simon Stone: Yes and no Martin. Obviously, we can work out how much clubs have lost over any three-year period by looking at their accounts.

What we do not know is how much is being claimed back to get that figure under the £105m loss limit for clubs who have been in the Premier League for all three seasons. So, women's and youth football, depreciation of assets and community programmes fall into that. Look at Chelsea selling their women's team and a hotel. I tend to think any club getting promoted has to invest and clubs being relegated are going to lose a chunk of income and as teams outside the top-flight have a reduced top limit, that is always worth scrutinising.

Overall accounts are fine and a useful guide. But they only tell part of the story.

RE Christian at 14:30 Can anyone stop Liverpool from winning back to back titles? That all depends on whether the top 6 pull their socks up next season and compete! I can’t see Man Utd and Spurs being 16 and 17th again. Arsenal will get a striker this time, City will rebuild so yes there are about a handful of teams that can stop them not to mention injuries etc that they might get this time round. However if the other teams don’t perform again then yes I could see Liverpool getting another low title winning score and taking it again.

Adam, Reading: Frimpong, Wirtz and Kerkez look inbound, but what about exits at Liverpool? Any insight into who may be leaving Liverpool this summer?

Sami Mokbel: One name to keep an eye on is Ibrahima Konate. He is in talks over a new contract, but his existing deal expires at the end of next season. If an agreement can’t be reached it will be interesting to see if Liverpool consider offers for the France international to avoid losing him for nothing in 2026. Paris Saint-Germain and Al Hilal are the club’s I’ve heard who have an interest in Konate.

What happens with Konate could impact how Liverpool approach the futures of fellow centre backs Jarrell Quansah and Joe Gomez, who have Premier League interest. Elsewhere, Darwin Nunez could with his departure expected to pave the way for a new striker.

Liverpool came flying out of the (transfer) gates post-season. If reports are true, Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz are all incoming. If they also secure a reliable striker to replace Nunes/Diaz, both of whom seem to be leaving, can anyone stop them winning back-to-back titles?

    Christian

If Liverpool get Wirtz then I think this is the strongest our team has ever looked. Excited for the future.

  17. Transfers Q&A: Are the Rangers board leaning towards Martin?published at 14:26 British Summer Time 2 June

Get Involved: WhatsApp on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply)

Anon: Any updates on the Rangers managerial situation, is it true the board are leaning towards Russell Martin?

Nick Mashiter: With new owners and new investment the search for a new Rangers manager is coming to an end.

The takeover, led by private healthcare tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, gives Rangers fresh hope after watching another title win for Celtic.

Kevin Thelwell has now officially started as the club's new sporting director and has said he expects to conclude the search in the next few days.

Russell Martin is a leading contender, while Davide Ancelotti is a strong option, but it has been a fluid situation up until now. Myself and Simon Stone revealed over a week ago former Feyenoord boss Brian Priske had also been spoken to.

I appreciate how this may sound but Martin is a better coach and manager than the first half of Southampton's season showed. He is meticulous and has his philosophy - even if some may frown upon it - and that makes it easy to try to get it across to the players.

Yet he did not have the quality of player at St Mary's and they lost out on several targets last summer - Liam Delap being one - and I've always felt if he had the right squad at his disposal he would shine.

  18. What do Everton need in the summer transfer window?published at 14:20 British Summer Time 2 June

    Everton

It will be a new era at Everton as the club begin life at Hill Dickinson stadium after ending their stay at Goodison Park. With David Moyes overseeing a strong finish to the season, they will hope to kick on with their new owners, the Friedkin Group, looking to strengthen in a number of departments.

    Who are they linked with?

Everton triggered the option to make Charly Alcaraz's move permanent after an initial loan from Brazilian side Flamengo. Express reports, external that the Toffees have identified Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande as one of several midfield targets this summer while according to Sky Sports, external, they will go after a right-back, a right-winger and a striker as well as another midfielder, with them naming Brighton's Matt O’Riley and Liverpool's Ben Doak among their targets.

    How much can they spend?

Everton manager David Moyes gestures towards the supportersImage source, Getty Images

While Everton's departure from Goodison Park was meant to herald a new dawn, they arrive at their new 52,888-seater stadium still to some extent paying for the huge contracts and big-money mistakes under former owner Farhad Moshiri. "One marquee signing is certainly possible, but the chances of a series of big names is less likely. A spend of £50-£100m is the ballpark unless there are exits," says football finance expert Kieran Maguire.

    What about departures?

Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic, Doucoure and Joao Virginia will leave the club this summer after their contracts expire while Armando Broja, Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala are to return to their parent clubs after loan spells.

I don't think there's any particular need for Utd to sell Fernandes. However, his value is like to start to go down so it makes sense for Utd to get some money back for him this summer if Fernandes wants to leave.
