Rob: How on earth are Brentford getting Kelleher from Liverpool for only £18 million? That might be the bargain of the whole transfer window already and it's the first day.

Sami Mokbel: It may well be the bargain of the summer, Rob. He is clearly a talented goalkeeper. But consider this: Kelleher is 26 and has only made 25 Premier League starts. That isn’t a vast body of work to consider. Liverpool know that. Brentford will have used that to drive the price down. There is also no telling how Kelleher will adapt to becoming a Premier League club’s first choice keeper because he has never been in the position before. Add to that that Kelleher’s contract at Anfield expires next summer when he can leave for nothing and the anticipated arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will compete with Allison Becker to be first-choice, Kelleher’s days at Liverpool were numbered. In many ways, Liverpool have done well to get £18m!

  2. Kelleher set for £18m Brentford movepublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 2 June

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is set to move to Brentford after the clubs agreed a £12.5m fee for the player, rising to £18m in add-ons.

The Republic of Ireland international, 26, is seen as a replacement for the Bees' number one Mark Flekken, who is heading to German side Bayer Leverkusen.

The Bundesliga club have agreed a fee of about £8m for the 31-year-old Dutchman.

Kelleher has a year left on his contract at Anfield but Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will join the Premier League champions in July to compete for the number one shirt with established first choice Alisson Becker.

    Brentford

Brentford narrowly missed out on securing European football for the first time in their history. But they could see changes at key areas this summer with the Bees in the hunt for a first-choice goalkeeper while also needing attacking reinforcements if Bryan Mbeumo or Yoane Wissa depart.

    Who are they linked with?

According to BBC Sport's Nizaar Kinsella, Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is set to move to Brentford in a £12.5m deal, rising to £18m in add-ons. They have already turned Michael Kayode's loan move from Fiorentina into a five-year deal while midfielder Yehor Yarmoliuk signed a new contract last week.

    How much can they spend?

Brentford are among the best run businesses in the league and their approach of spotting players other clubs have not considered is likely to pay further dividends. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire says "the Bees have no PSR concerns and could spend up to £200m, but are unlikely to break the bank for the sake of it as this is not the way owner Matthew Benham conducts affairs."

    What about departures?

Brentford number one Mark Flekken is set to move to Bayer Leverkusen after the Bundesliga club agreed a fee of about £8m. Manchester United have been linked, external with a move for 20-goal Mbuemo in recent weeks while 19-goal Wissa could also be a hot commodity. Centre-back Ben Mee and goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom were released by the club after the season.

Manchester City are pursuing a deal for Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri, according to David Ornstein of the Athletic, external.

The report states that agreements are yet to be reached with Wolves and the 23-year-old but that all parties expect the move to happen.

  5. Transfers Q&A: What is the likelihood of Rayan Ait-Nouri leaving?published at 11:23 British Summer Time 2 June

Nick, Wolverhampton: What is the likelihood of Rayan Ait-Nouri leaving Wolves this summer? With Cunha gone, it would leave us bereft of two of our best players from a very poor season.

Nick Mashiter: Hi Nick, with Matheus Cunha's £62.5m move to Manchester United confirmed over the weekend I can imagine Wolves fans are worried about who else may leave.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is a huge asset for Wolves and there will be interest but the club will have planned for that, while they also want to offer the left-back a new contract.

They are in a strong position with Ait-Nouri having two years left on his contract so will be able to demand a good fee. Banking around £100m for Ait-Nouri and Cunha would represent good business.

But Wolves have priories elsewhere with captain Nelson Semedo out of contract and the need to replace Cunha.

Right back Semedo is considering a new offer from the club but possible interest from Galatasaray has been mentioned to me more than once over the last few months.

In terms of replacements, the days of Wolves spending big have gone, Cunha was the last huge expenditure when he made his loan permanent from Atletico Madrid for £44m two years ago, so they will have to be clever in the market. Emmanuel Agbadou and Marshall Munetsi's arrivals in January show how they can do that.

  6. What do Arsenal need in the summer transfer window?published at 11:18 British Summer Time 2 June

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is expecting a "big" summer of spending and a proven striker will be high on the agenda. With new sporting director Andrea Berta set to be a key figure, the Gunners are also looking to strengthen in the midfield and the wing, while a backup for goalkeeper David Raya will also be looked at.

    Who are they linked with?

Midfielder Martin Zubimendi is set to become Arsenal's first capture by completing a £51m move from Real Sociedad, according to BBC Sport's Sami Mokbel. RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres are two strikers they are eyeing with Alexander Isak now likely to stay put at Newcastle while wingers Nico Williams and Leroy Sane are also linked.

    How much can they spend?

Mikel Arteta, Manager of Arsenal, acknowledges the fansImage source, Getty Images

Arteta should have plenty of finance available to finally turn Arsenal from contenders to champions. Record revenues of £616m in 2023-24 are likely to be exceeded thanks to the expanded Champions League and broadcast revenue, while the recent sales of Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah brings about £50m of pure profit, meaning they could spend over £200m in the window.

    What about departures?

Midfielder Jorginho and defender Kieran Tierney are confirmed to be leaving and more could follow. The Gunners are ready to listen to offers for Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko while talks continue with Thomas Partey, whose contract expires this month. Nuno Tavares, Fabio Vieira and Albert Lokonga could all leave permanently while Raheem Sterling will return to Chelsea.

Stuart: Will we see three periods of frantic activity this summer around the 3 "deadlines"? - the pre Club World Cup, end of June for PSR and end of August?

Simon Stone: Hiya Stuart. In short, yes, I do. It is clear clubs involved in the Club World Cup are looking to do business and they only have until 10 June to do it, so that's one. The transfer deadline is 1 September - closing at 1900 BST don't forget - so that will be the usual madness.

The unknown is whether 'frantic' will apply to 30 June. There has been suggestions Aston Villa might need to sell someone - but it is not clear if there is an obvious 'out' that could be done before 30 June. But certainly any clubs in danger of not complying will know they need to sort themselves out.

As a Villa fan, I can't figure out what's going to happen this summer. I believe we are close to PSR again despite the profit on Duran we made. I think the biggest concerns are; keep Emi, keep Unai, pick up the loan players (not Rashford, too expensive) and sell a couple people - Bailey being front of the queue I feel.

    Aston Villa

Failure to qualify for the Champions League will adversely affect Aston Villa's transfer plans and will have put a dent in their hopes of keeping on-loan forwards Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford. It means they will need new attacking additions as they look to combine domestic and continental campaigns yet again with a new goalkeeper also a priority.

    Who are they linked with?

Defender Yasin Ozcan, 18, will join from Turkish club Kasimpasa while they are close to signing young Feyenoord striker Zepiqueno Redmond on a free transfer, according to Sky Sports, external. Unai Emery was coy on Emiliano Martinez's future after the goalkeeper's tears in their final home game last month and Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has been linked, external recently.

    How much can they spend?

Villa made a loss of £206m in the two years to 30 June 2024 but a run to the quarter-finals in Europe along with the sales Moussa Diaby, Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran will help. And according to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, they will be at the bottom end of the £50-100m spending range, without any departures.

    What about departures?

Rashford, Asensio and Axel Disasi are all set to return to their parent clubs after end of loans, while goalkeeper Robin Olsen will return to Sweden on a free transfer to Malmo. Martinez, a two-time winner of the Best Fifa Men's Goalkeeper award, could also depart the club he joined from Arsenal in 2020.

James: I’m a Newcastle fan. Under PSR restrictions, what can we spend this summer?

I’m unsure if transfer budgets; a) can be ascertained from public P&L statements

    b) can be guesstimated by the journos, or

    c) are completely unknown

Simon Stone: Hiya James. Thanks for the question. If we are being honest, they are guesstimates because the club finance directors are not going to tell us what the exact position is.

We do know what the accounts tell is, but the actual P&S figure is different because clubs can claim certain expenditure back. However, it's pretty certain Newcastle are in a better position than they were last summer, when they were selling players by 30 June to ensure they didn't get into trouble. They have clearly qualified for the expanded Champions League, which will drive more revenue.

I think the approach around Aleksander Isak is telling. I don't feel Newcastle would be quite as determined to keep him if they didn't have the capability to strengthen Eddie Howe's squad.

Everton need a good transfer window considering how well we've done since Moyes' return, it might be wishful thinking to get a European spot but some good midfield options would properly sort us out.

Everton have already completed their first deal of the summer.

On Saturday, they triggered the option to sign midfielder Carlos Alcaraz on a permanent basis when his loan spell at the club concludes next month.

Alcaraz, 22, joined Everton on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo in February and will now be signed for an undisclosed fee.

The Argentina Under-23 international enjoyed a productive loan spell at Goodison Park, scoring two goals and providing three assists in 16 appearances.

He will sign a two-year contract, valid until June 2027.

  15. Transfers Q&A: Will Moyes have money to spend?published at 10:42 British Summer Time 2 June

Adam: Will David Moyes have money to spend this summer, or are Everton, and other non ‘big six’ clubs, held back by the two-tier PSR rules?

Simon Stone: Hiya Adam. I think this summer will be fascinating for Everton. To answer your substantive point, they will be held back by the rules because they have made losses that clearly put them in P&S trouble historically and they are still being worked through.

Also, while the costs involved in building the new stadium have been refinanced in a much less onerous way, they still have to be paid and the benefits, such as increased matchday revenue, are only just starting to be felt in terms of season ticket sales. If their approach at Roma is any guide, the Friedkin Group would presumably be keen to spend big this summer. However, that seems unlikely without player sales.

In addition, that is not David Moyes' approach. It sound boring, and it might not be what you want to hear, but I think if Everton can remain quietly in mid-table next season, that would get them to a point where they can really kick on in 2026-27.

It is going to be interesting to see where Jamie Vardy ends up. As a free agent, surely he is worth a punt?

Allegedly, Palace have been linked with Jamie Vardy, but I'm not sure this would be the right move for either side? No doubt the Eagles need to strengthen their squad to cope with their upcoming European adventure, but I'm not sure Vardy fits the bill at age 38, and with the high physical demands of the players made by Oliver Glasner's style and system, it may be more than he could sustain, unfortunately. He'd probably want hefty wages despite his advancing years, and I doubt he'd be much more than an impact sub. As a Palace fan, I'd rather focus on signing younger players, and developing Eddie Nketiah having spent around £30 million to bring him in. Also, if we're going to lose one of Eze or Guéhi, sad as it is, I'd rather cash in on the latter and reinvest the money in the squad.

    Bournemouth

After a creditable ninth-placed finish in the Premier League, Bournemouth have seen many of their stars become targets for bigger clubs and replacing them will be key for Andoni Iraola over the summer. Defensive reinforcements and securing a permanent number one will be at the top of his agenda.

    Who are they linked with?

With Dean Huijsen joining Real Madrid and Milos Kerkez also set to be on his way out, Bournemouth will definitely need to look elsewhere for new defenders. The Cherries will also need a first-choice keeper if Kepa Arrizabalaga, on loan from Chelsea, decide to look for other options. Meanwhile, FC Lorient attacker Eli Junior Kroupi, 18, will complete his move to the club this summer.

    How much can they spend?

Bournemouth have the lowest matchday revenue in the Premier League, with a 11,379 capacity at the Vitality Stadium. But they have recruited shrewdly in recent times and the big-money sales of Dominic Solanke and Huijsen during 2024-25 means they could easily part with £100m to bring in new signings this summer.

    What about departures?

Full-back Kerkez has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks winger while Jaidon Anthony will complete a permanent move to Burnley ahead of next season. Forward Antoine Semenyo could also be a target for other clubs in the summer.
