Jude Bellingham's most recent England appearance came off the bench in their 3-1 defeat to Senegal in a friendly in Nottingham back in June.

He had started their 1-0 win against Andorra in the World Cup qualifiers three days earlier.

The Real Madrid midfielder, however, underwent surgery for a long-standing shoulder issue in July after the Club World Cup which resulted in him missing the start of the 2025-26 season, including England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.

Bellingham was back in action for Real as a substitute against Espanyol in September but was not called up to the national team in October, having only made ne start for the Spanish club since his return.

The 22-year-old has been part of the England squad at the 2022 World Cup, where he scored in a 6-2 win against Iran in the group stage opener, as well as two European championships.

Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a marginal figure for club and country as he bids to overcome an early-season injury.

The former Liverpool full-back earned his first minutes for Real Madrid since September in midweek, coming on as a late substitute in their 1-0 defeat at Anfield in the Champions League.

The 27-year-old has four goals in 34 appearances for England, but his only call-up under Thomas Tuchel came in June, when he played 26 minutes of their 1-0 win in Andorra and was an unused substitute in the friendly defeat to Senegal.

While Alexander-Arnold's delivery is seen as world class and he is a threat from free-kicks, lingering doubts over his defensive ability have restricted his international chances.

Will Tuchel take this opportunity to welcome him back into the Three Lions fold?

Talking about players reborn.

Brighton's Danny Welbeck has been in fine form this season.

The 34-year-old former Manchester United and Arsenal forward has always had international pedigree, but his career has been blighted by injuries.

He has scored 16 goals in 42 games for England, going to the 2012 Euros and World Cups in 2014 and 2018, but has not featured for the Three Lions since winning his last cap in September 2018.

Welbeck is enjoying an Indian summer at Brighton, regularly lauded for his all-round contribution as a focal point of the team, he is also weighing in with some key goals this season.

He is second in the Premier League scoring charts with six, prompting Wayne Rooney to lead the calls for his former United team-mate to earn a recall to the England squad.

Welbeck's team manager, Fabian Hurzeler, said this week he would not swap him for any other player.

Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish are all pushing for a recall.

Bellingham has proved his fitness since the October squad announcement, scoring three goals in five games in the intervening period for Real Madrid.

Foden, meanwhile, has been in top form for Manchester City this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 13 games.

And Jack Grealish remains a player reborn at Everton, leading the Premier League charts for assists and chances created from open play.

Adam Wharton, meanwhile, is returning from injury and illness and played just 30 minutes in Crystal Palace's Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, so remains a doubt.

There was no place for Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham as he continued his recovery from shoulder surgery - he had an operation in July to correct a recurrent dislocation.

Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton were also both absent because of injury.

And Manchester City's Phil Foden and Jack Grealish, who is on loan at Everton, were left out despite being two of the Premier League's form players.

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly is not expected to be in Thomas Tuchel's England squad after failing to play regular minutes for the Gunners.

The 19-year-old defender started England's last match - the 5-0 victory in Latvia that secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup - but has started just two of Arsenal's five matches since then.

He is fully fit, just not first choice at Arsenal.

Tuchel said during his last camp in October that it was not enough to be a good citizen or team-mate, he wants his selections to be playing regular first-team football.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is set to miss out on Thomas Tuchel's England squad.

The Arsenal defender is fit but has struggled for game-time this season.
