On whether resting Liverpool's first team players will pay off...

Only time will tell. If they beat Aston Villa and Real Madrid, and they start to turn a corner, then yes. If it isn't and things continue, then Liverpool fans will get disgruntled.

Managers don't make changes for no reason. But when you need a victory, this was the ideal time to get it.

As a Chelsea fan, I’m glad the players didn’t celebrate the win on the pitch! Would have been an insult after the way they played in the 2nd half!

You're not playing for Bournemouth or Bayer Leverkusen - you're playing for Liverpool.

Liverpool don't expect to compete in competitions, they expect to win them and that is a big difference.

People might say it's only the EFL Cup, but it’s everything for Slot’s Liverpool at the moment. Mark my words - Slot is under deep pressure.

    Newcastle United

Newcastle goalscorer Nick Woltemade, speaking to Sky Sports: "Joe [Willock] had the ball and I wanted to go behind the centre back and luckily the goalkeeper was coming out, so I just had to head it in.

"I think I play different from the other strikers they had here. I think the team after every game get to know me better. I just want the ball at my feet most of the time but I can help the team and if we all come into it I think we can get really good results.

"This team is so easy for me to come here, new country, a new language, I feel welcome here even from the first day everyone was talking to me.

"I think we all have a good connection which makes it easier for me and even for the other new players."

Slot's team selection against Crystal Palace showed where his priorities are. Lose at the weekend and I don't see him recovering.

Slot basically gave up on this competition with that squad selection. The league looks gone already, so they only have one realistic trophy to compete for now (they can forget Champions League). Slot showing some astounding arrogance tonight.

  12. 'Performance was OK, but not a great' - Glasnerpublished at 22:18 GMT 29 October

    FT: Liverpool 0-3 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Good win today. It took us 15 minutes to be in the game - we did well, scored nice goals, and controlled the game. I don't know how often this happens when you play the champion three times within three months, and you win three times. So, credit to the players."

On Liverpool's team: "We didn't know who they were going to play. Andy Robertson, Endo, Kerkez, and Mac Allister. Mac Allister is a world champion and yes, a few young players. Rio Ngumoha has shown already he can score goals.

"First 15 minutes we didn't do well, we had the feeling we were still in the hotel beds. Played slowly into the game, we scored nice goals, the performance was OK, but it was not a great performance."

It’s not a good sign when a manager is sacrificing tournaments this early in the season. Slot should have been using this match to build up confidence in players like Wirtz, but instead he gave up. Pretty disappointing for fans to see their manager doing that already. With every poor performance my belief in him drops significantly, and I know it’s not just me.

I think it heaps more pressure on Arne Slot. There are going to be so many more questions asked of Slot.

Confidence is huge in football - when you see the way Liverpool players are playing at the moment, they are second guessing everything they do at the moment.

They're questioning every decision they make on the football pitch and almost playing negatively.

When we looked at the Liverpool squad at the start of the season, we felt that their starting 11 was better than anybody else.

But what did they have on the bench? We have seen an element of that tonight, and perhaps it isn't as strong at the moment as we thought it was.

Great game for Newcastle - they just had too much for Spurs tonight. Eddie Howe will be really pleased with this performance tonight.
