Raphinha's goal was enough for Barcelona to pick up a 1-0 win over Benfica in Lisbon on Wednesday night.

It was the Brazilian's 25th goal in 40 club appearances this season, including nine goals in nine Champions League games.

While he had three shots in the match, his chances totalled an individual expected goals tally of 0.08, lower than teammates Robert Lewandowski (0.74), Lamine Yamal (0.58) and Dani Olmo (0.31).

Best ever goalkeeping displays: Kasper Schmeichel, over the two legs against Sevilla in 2017. Saved two penalties. I think most Leicester fans wonder why we sold him before the 22-23 season. Ended up with Danny Ward in goal and we haven’t recovered since.

There is huge pressure on Vincent Kompany to push the team towards the final [held in Munich]. He has consistently said trust the process, I trust my players, and tonight he has been repaid in that faith he has been showing.

Michael Olise came up with a big performance, Harry Kane not just with a penalty but with a big header and off the ball was superb. I think it was the result that spoke volumes about readjusting the power balance that Bayern Munich love the most, which is them being firmly on top.

Best ever goalkeeping display has to be David De Gea vs Arsenal in United’s 3-1 win in 2017. 14 saves in one game was just absolute theatre and class. No other answer for me.

Sadly, it could be a case of 150 and out for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer after Bayern Munich announced he would be ruled out "for the foreseeable future" with a torn muscle in his right calf.

The former Germany goalkeeper suffered the injury during Bayern's Champions League last-16 first leg victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

He was replaced by debutant 21-year-old keeper Jonas Urbig in the 59th minute.

Revealing the extent of the injury, the club said in a statement: "Manuel Neuer suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right calf.

"The diagnosis was confirmed by the FC Bayern medical unit. [He] will therefore be out for the foreseeable future."

I'm sure there will be a few people in Leverkusen wondering why Matej Kovar was playing this game and the fact is Xabi Alonso likes to rotate his goalkeepers. He's done it in 10 of the last 30 games in all competitions so it's no surprise but there was a moment in the first half when Mario Hermoso is trying to tell him to speak up a bit and be a bit more commanding of his area.

So it was coming in a way, and he has had uncertain moments in Leverkusen's only Bundesliga defeat over the course of the last two seasons, against Leipzig earlier in the campaign, where he didn't cut the most confident of figure.

They were the architects of their own downfall and a return to the Leverkusen that we were used to before Xabi Alonso joined the club and it makes you realise just how good they were last season.

My favourite goalkeeper performance was [Republic of Ireland striker] Niall Quinn for Manchester City v Derby County. After Tony Coton got sent off for bringing down Dean Saunders, Quinn stepped up and saved Saunders' penalty. He also scored a volley from outside the box for City in the same game.

    Dave, Manchester

Of all the niche goalkeeping stats, surely Niall Quinn stands alone as the only person to save a penalty and score in the same game?

(Waits for flood of answers suggesting otherwise...)

Alisson's goalkeeping masterclass in Paris somewhat overshadowed what was a landmark night for Bayern Munich stopper Manuel Neuer, who became only the fourth player in Champions League history to make 150 starts in the competition.

During Bayern's 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, the German goalkeeper moved joint-third alongside Lionel Messi for all-time starts in the competition.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo (178) sits top of the list, with Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas (176) in second place.

The next highest active player on the list that still plays in Europe is Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski on 125.

Neuer is also the first player to have made 150 Champions League appearances that have all come via starting matches.

      Most starts in Champions League

      • Cristiano Ronaldo - 178
      • Iker Casillas - 176
      • Lionel Messi - 150
      • Manuel Neuer - 150

This Liverpool combines the flair of a Klopp team with the sheer bloody-minded obduracy of a Benitez team. It's quite a combination.

What cannot be denied is that once again, Liverpool have provided another CL night of pure theatre and excitement. Whether you like them or not, they always provide great entertainment and high drama. Roll on the second leg.

There are plenty of ifs, buts and maybes about Bayern Munich's progress in the Champions League, but with 10 rounds of matches left in their Bundesliga campaign they look a much safer bet to clinch the league title.

Bayern currently sit top of table, eight points clear of Bayer Leverkusen in second place.

Last night's comfortable 3-0 win over Leverkusen gave a clear indication of the gap between the two clubs domestically this term.

Bayern's final 10 league games do not include a meeting with either Leverkusen or third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt, but they do take on fourth-placed Mainz next month.

Leverkusen avoid Frankfurt in their final 10 games, but do face trips to Freiburg (fifth) and Mainz either side of a home game against Borussia Dortmund in their final three matches of the season.

The question is, if Harry Kane is to break his trophy duck, how many team honours will he help Bayern Munich win this season?

A 3-0 win for Bayern over Bayer Leverkusen means it is likely Vincent Kompany's side will reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The winner will face the winner of Feyenoord's tie with Inter Milan in the last eight.

In Wednesday's early kick-off, Inter were 2-0 winners in the Netherlands, giving them a healthy lead going into the second leg at the San Siro.

Looking further ahead, Bayern would face one from Barcelona, Benfica, Lille or Borussia Dortmund, should they reach the semi-finals.

    • Will Harry Kane end his trophy wait?published at 10:03 Greenwich Mean Time 6 March

Harry Kane's career has been littered with personal accolades that include the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup and joint-top scorer at the 2024 European Championships, but in terms of major honours, his cabinet remains empty.

Kane finished runner-up in one Champions League final and two EFL Cup finals with Tottenham, as well as one DFL Supercup final with Bayern Munich and two European Championship finals with England.

With Bayern going well in the Champions League and eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, his career-long wait for a major team honour may finally end soon.

Jeff: Sorry I have to disagree with Josh on the semi-automated offsides. The speed of decision is great but how is the elevation of someone’s heel an advantage? Technology draining the fun from the game.

Liverpool fan. I have to say even though we benefitted last night, I do not like the fact that the offside was given for an ankle being off. In the "olden" days we would have said he was level. Using technology is great for offside as it gets rid of the absolute howlers. But I think they need to use Wenger's plan of looking at the player's torso. Or some other metric. There will always be close calls but the current system doesn't feel *right* to me. Happy with the old school European away win though! But still a long way to go in this tie.

It might have been a bad night for Bayer Leverkusen, but Harry Kane continues to flourish at Bayern Munich as the England captain scored twice to put his side in full control of this all-Bundesliga clash.

Here's a look at some of Kane's scoring stats:

      • Since joining Bayern Munich ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, Harry Kane has scored more goals (75), more headed goals (16) and more penalties (21) than any other player from Europe’s big-five leagues across all competitions
      • England's captain has scored nine goals in the Champions League this season, the most ever by an English player in a single campaign in the competition, and joint-most in a European Cup campaign overall alongside Manchester United’s Dennis Viollet in 1956-57
      • Kane scored his eighth and ninth goals in the knockout stages of the Champions League, with only Frank Lampard (15) and Wayne Rooney (14) scoring more times in the latter stages of the competition among Englishmen.

It was a night where everything that could have gone wrong for Leverkusen did go wrong.

Xabi Alonso's side came into the game having not lost to Bayern this season - earning two draws in the league and a win in the German Cup in December.

But their decision to leave Patrik Schick and Victor Boniface on the bench and play without a recognised striker left the German champions without an outlet on the few occasions they made some progress in the opposition's half.

Individual mistakes also did not help Die Werkself as Nordi Mukiele was far too passive in the box to allow Harry Kane to head in the early opener.

Alonso's decision to pick Kovar in front of Lukas Hradecky to guard the Leverkusen goal will also be scrutinised after the Czech shot-stopper's error let Bayern double their advantage in the second half.

Their misery was compounded when Mukiele planted his studs on Kingsley Coman's calf from behind, leaving the referee with no option but to dismiss him for a second bookable offence.

Tapsoba's introduction to shore up the 10-man side also backfired as the centre-back put his arms around Kane to bring him down and conceded the penalty from which the striker sent them three goals clear.
