Summary

  1. West Ham set to sign Mengwen on loanpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 13 September

BBC Sport senior women's football reporter

We believe West Ham are set to bring in Brighton defender Li Mengwen on loan for the rest of the season.

The China right-back will bring much-needed depth to West Ham’s defence after they lost Risa Shimizu to Manchester City this summer before she unfortunately picked up an ACL injury.

Mengwen was also in talks over a potential move to Crystal Palace but arrived for a medical at West Ham earlier on Friday.

  2. 'I've never felt like there is an easy way to success'published at 13:55 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on what winning would mean for the rest of the season: "It's hard to say. I've never felt like there is an easy way to success, I don't think one thing can change the trajectory to a great effect. It helps, a win in a big game, in a derby but it's a game against one of the top sides so that gives you more belief and confidence and potentially that can inject some real momentum into our season."

  3. 'I think he is going to make us better' - Arteta on Sterlingpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Arsenal

More from Mikel Arteta on what Raheem Sterling can bring to the Arsenal team: "What I see is hunger. He is a player who wants to play every minute of every game. When that is not the case he's not happy.

"He loves football; it's something he likes doing every single day and I see that.

"His commitment and the level of energy that he is bringing into the team and the quality is a big boost. You can feel it in the players when he comes walking in the door that we are better with him. I think he is going to make us better."

On whether Arteta can unlock his goalscoring ability: "He has this ability - that is a credit to him, but also the players he has got around him. You need that as a front player certainly. He has got that will [to score goals] and the ability to do that. I am sure he is going to impact the team."

  4. 'Angeball will come out on top' - Suttonpublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Chris Sutton
    Former Premier League striker

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has just signed a new contract, so maybe his mind has been on that new deal and how he can spend it on furnishing his house rather than the north London derby.

Being serious, though, Rice and Odegaard are such big losses that I can't help but feel it will have an impact. Arsenal have got quality players like Jorginho and Thomas Partey to come into their midfield, but they are missing two of their best players.

The Gunners will get chances in this game and I expect them to score - they won this fixture 3-2 last season and drew 2-2 at the Emirates, and I am expecting more of the same.

This time, however, I am going to back Spurs. I know everyone who is reading this will probably go for a draw but I am not going to do that. Instead, I am going to stick my long neck out and say 'Angeball' will come out on top.

Spurs have dominated games and created chances this season, but they just need someone to stick the ball in the back of the net and I have a feeling that will happen for them here. If I am right, then we may as well hand the title to Manchester City.

    Sutton's prediction: 3-2

  5. 'We know what it means to our supporters'published at 13:50 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on the north London rivalry: "Every derby is a bit different, obviously this one, you can tell it's fairly intense between the two clubs, obviously geographically situated in the same part of town. On the same turf, there's a little bit of an edge. I thought both games last year were entertaining. I thought we played well in their place, and really matched with them. We know what it means to our supporters and the club we've got to go out there and perform."

  6. 'We want to be a club that can challenge everyone'published at 13:47 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on rivalling Arsenal: "Not specifically Arsenal, we want to be a club that can challenge everyone. That's what we are trying to aim to become. To do that, you've got to perform at a certain level, at a consistent basis, the squad's strong enough to do that. We've started the season fairly solidly, from a performance perspective. The results haven't reflected that but I think we're in a good place to push on from last year and improve on all areas. There’s no reason why we can’t [challenge] this year."

  7. Sterling and Arsenal 'match made in heaven'published at 13:45 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Theo Walcott
Former England forward on The Football News Show

I look at the Raheem Sterling signing and think it's absolutely a match made in heaven because Raheem is now in a stable group that dominates the ball and enjoys playing their football.

There's no more chopping and changing managers or uncertainty of whether he is or isn't going to play. There is definitely a togetherness within the whole group.

The beautiful thing about Raheem is that he can play in any of those three positions up front or even in that 10 position behind the striker. He's going to be able to take a little bit of pressure off of Saka because Saka plays a lot of football. He'll put pressure on Trossard and Martinelli to get in the starting 11.

He's a winner and is now in an environment where he is loved.

  8. Sterling has a 'point to prove' - Artetapublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Mikel Arteta says that Raheem Sterling has "a point to prove" after joining Arsenal on loan from Chelsea in the summer transfer window: "He looks great. First of all because he has a big smile on his face, a lot of energy. He's at it and he wants to prove a point.

"When someone has got that in his belly you sense it straight away. Obviously, I don't need to discover anything about his quality and what he can bring to the team."

  9. 'Different clubs, different environments'published at 13:43 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on whether there is a similarity between the projects at Tottenham and Arsenal: "It's hard to say because every situation is unique in itself because they're different clubs, different environments. I've said before there’s obviously a way to build a team and a club, go in a certain direction. That takes time. It's about finding the right people in key positions. These are club decisions and as you go along I guess clubs decide whether they want to continue down that road. The results aren't always there immediately. For the most part clubs stick with their decisions."

  10. Jesus back training, waiting game on Calafioripublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Team news took up a large proportion of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta's news conference in preview of Sunday's north London derby.

He gave further fitness updates on Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus and Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori, who picked up an injury on international duty.

"Gabby was out [training]," said Arteta. "He has got another session tomorrow. If everything goes well he will be ready to be selected in the squad, which is great news for us.

On Calafiori: "It's another one that we have to wait for another day or so."

  11. Bentancur 'well aware of the ramifications'published at 13:39 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on Rodrigo Bentancur: "It's not unexpected from our perspective. We know it’s something the league will look at and we need to let the process play out. Rodrigo's well aware of the ramifications. We will just wait and see what they come out with."

  12. Solanke and Van de Ven training ahead of north London Derbypublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on team news: "Internationals all came back okay, Bissouma is the only one that's got an issue. It's not serious but he's getting treatment today. We'll see if he can train tomorrow and make a decision there.

"Micky [Van de Ven] is all good, he's trained fully over the international break. Dom [Solanke] is back with the first team, training today so again, we've got training tomorrow, if they get through alright, I guess they'll be available. Richarlison and Will Lankshear are the only two in rehab"

  13. Merino doing 'better' but it is a 'slow process'published at 13:35 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Mikel Arteta on summer signing Mikel Merino, who suffered a "small fracture" of his shoulder in training.

Asked how he was doing, the Arsenal boss said: "Better, it is a slow process because it is a bone and it takes a while to heal. He is progressing well and he is already doing some stuff.

"He is working extremely hard. We are using this time as well to make sure he understands a lot of things that he has a lot of questions about, so when he is back he is ready to go and impact the team."

On how when he is expected back: "We don't know. It is very difficult to understand the healing of the bone. I think at the moment he does not have a lot of symptoms, so you can speed up [his recovery] very quickly because he has not lost anything else, but we have to wait and see."

  14. 'Pressure starting to mount'published at 13:34 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Michael Brown
Former Tottenham and Man City midfielder on The Football News Show

This Spurs side has quality with players that can hurt you but the pressure is starting to mount because of the results at the end of last season.

The start of this season hasn't really gone as expected and he talks about winning trophies. It certainty won't be the Premier League so cup competitions will be important.

I feel like he [Ange Postecoglou] needs a bit more time, I really like his approach but they're going to be open and at risk of being punished.

  15. 'These are the important games'published at 13:30 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Theo Walcott
Former England forward on The Football News Show

At the start of the season these are the important games. Not to get them out but to put a stamp on your authority and say yes, we're out here to win the league.

And I just think that it's an opportunity for Mikel Arteta and his team to say that we've learnt from the past mistakes of last season.

  16. 'We have to wait and see' on Odegaard injury - Artetapublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 13 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says the club's medical team are awaiting more tests on the extent of captain Martin Odegaard's ankle injujry, which he picked up while playing for Norway against Austria on Monday: "We need some more tests so let's see what happens in the next day or so, this afternoon probably, and see what happens with the extent of the injury and how quickly we can get him back.

"He is super positive about everything, we know Martin, he wants to be there every single day, but we have to wait and see."

Arteta added: "With 48 hours until the game, players could always become available, but let's see what happens."

Bournemouth v Chelsea (Sat, 20:00 BST)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca on striker Nicolas Jackson signing a new two-year contract extension keeping him at the club until 2033:

"Very happy, first of all because he is doing very well. He is working well on and off the ball.

"He is the kind of player that is always going to score goals. With us in the first three games, he give some assists and goals.

"We are very happy with Nico."

Brighton have confirmed the signing of Arsenal striker Michelle Agyemang on a season-long loan.

The 18-year-old has been a regular around Arsenal's first team squad but hopes to gain more game time at Brighton.

"We’re delighted to welcome Michelle to the club. She is a goalscorer and an excellent playmaker," said head coach Dario Vidosic.

"It's clear to see her talent and potential in the game and she will give us another exciting option in attack.

"We're looking forward to seeing what she can add to our team this season."
