Man City v Club Brugge (20:00 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Not since the 2012-13 season, when Sir Alex Ferguson was still Manchester United manager and Roberto Mancini was in charge on the blue half of the city, has Manchester City exited the first phase of the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola has never had that experience in his entire managerial career that goes back to Barcelona and Bayern Munich before his move to City in 2016.

But that is the fate which awaits Guardiola and his team if they fail to beat Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium tonight.

Guardiola didn't react well in his press conference yesterday when asked if going out would be an 'embarrassment'.

"Ask me the question after," he said.

"Thank you for your concern but after the game I will answer you."

Guardiola had already said: "I think we will do it."

  11. Leicester City helicopter crash ruled an accidentpublished at 07:25 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

A helicopter crash in which five people were killed at Leicester City's King Power Stadium was an accident, an inquest jury has concluded.

The football club's chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, fellow passengers Kaveporn Punpare and Nusara Suknamai, pilot Eric Swaffer and Mr Swaffer's partner Izabela Roza Lechowicz all died in the crash on 27 October 2018.

On Tuesday, jurors delivered their conclusion to coroner Prof Catherine Mason, stating they found the helicopter "had all its appropriate airworthiness and maintenance certificates".

However, Mr Vichai's relatives have confirmed they are continuing to pursue a legal claim against the aircraft's manufacturer Leonardo.

Manchester United are close to completing a deal for another promising Arsenal youngster in Ayden Heaven.

United signed striker Chido Obi-Martin from the Gunners in October and the 17-year-old has already impressed in the club's FA Youth Cup campaign.

Now the Old Trafford outfit are expecting to successfully conclude negotiations with 18-year-old central defender Heaven, who made his senior debut as a substitute in an EFL Cup win at Preston.

Although Arsenal do not want to lose Heaven, the London-born player knows the path to regular first team exposure is blocked as Mikel Arteta has a number of senior defenders who are all performing well.

In contrast, United are on a path to try and massively improve their recruitment, which has been so poor in recent times.

In addition to Obi-Martin, the club has also tied up a deal for Paraguay Under-20 international Diego Leon.

It is not entirely clear whether Heaven would become part of United's first-team squad or if he would initially work with the Premier League 2 set-up.

  13. Tierney will be Celtic player by summer - Rodgerspublished at 07:14 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Kieran Tierney will move to Celtic from Arsenal this summer at the latest - and that fellow left-back Alex Valle's loan from Barcelona is being cut short.

Tierney is out of contract with the Premier League club this summer and Celtic are hoping an agreement can be reached to bring the 27-year-old Scotland defender to the Scottish champions during January.

There had been speculation about Valle's future should Tierney return to Celtic, with Italian club Como reportedly interested in taking the 20-year-old on loan for the rest of the season.

Manager Rodgers says Valle will not play for Celtic again and also confirmed that the Scottish champions are hoping to sign a replacement for striker Kyogo Furuhashi, who was sold to Rennes on Monday.

  14. Lewis-Skelly ban overturned after Arsenal appealpublished at 07:08 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly's three-match ban - imposed for a red card at Wolves on Saturday - has been overturned.

The Gunners appealed against the decision to send off the 18-year-old and an independent regulatory commission upheld their claim of wrongful dismissal, the Football Association confirmed.

"We're very happy that decision has been made," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said on Tuesday night on the eve of their final Champions League group game against Girona.

"The club has put all the evidence and everything it could put together to defend our position, and it was pretty fast. It's good to know today basically, that's helpful.

"Now we have more options because he's going to be available and that's something very positive for the team."

Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card after fouling Matt Doherty, with referee Michael Oliver deeming it serious foul play.
