  1. Why Newcastle will be buoyed by EFL Cup effectpublished at 10:56 GMT 31 October

That run of three home wins for Newcastle includes Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Tottenham in the last 16 of the EFL Cup - a competition in which the Magpies are defending champions.

"They found a lot of pleasure in winning the League Cup last season against Liverpool and they will want that feeling again," former Newcastle midfielder Dietmar Hamann told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"I know Wednesday was just a last-16 match but when you do win big games it improves teams and improves individual players.

"If you want to be in the Champions League on a consistent basis and challenging for the title, these games do help because they are knockout games that you have to find a way through.

"They did find a way through and I really like Newcastle.

"They have had some really tough games so far this season and some unfortunate defeats in the Premier League, but I really like what is happening and what Eddie Howe is developing."

  2. 'We conceded 16 set-pieces against Brentford and defended 15 well'published at 10:47 GMT 31 October

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sat, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

One final bit from what Liverpool manager Arne Slot said earlier, speaking about his side struggling with a lack of physicality: "It is never helpful if you end a game of football against Man Utd with conceding a set-piece and you start another one in the Premier League and you concede a throw in after five minutes.

"I'm not 100% if I'm correct but we had to defend 16 set-pieces [against Brentford] and 15 we defended well but at this moment, 15 isn't enough because we conceded 16. The first one, someone said to me, no player survives the first contact and that is also a little bit what makes it difficult if you are five minutes in and 1-0 down. That is never helpful for confidence and for the plan you had but like I said, if I liked a little part of the game, it was the part after we conceded 1-0 because we were creative, we created our chances but we couldn't score and in the last 10 minutes it became more of their game again.

"Eventually, the way we conceded the 2-0 - that is something that is far from our standards."

  3. 'Our away form has not been strong enough'published at 10:44 GMT 31 October

West Ham v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on trying to win their first away game in the Premier League this season: "Our away form has not been strong enough. We know that. It is something we want to rectify and we will be working hard to do that in this game."

On opponents West Ham: "A bit of change there. The thing I would say from looking at the squad they have got is they have a group of very good players. There is no doubting the quality of the players they have got, especially in attacking areas. We are going to have our work cut out in keeping a good defensive structure and making sure we limit the space for all their attacking talent."

  4. Howe will be desperate to end away win waitpublished at 10:40 GMT 31 October

Three home wins in three competitions in little more than a week have given Newcastle United some much-needed momentum.

But you do not get the sense that head coach Eddie Howe is getting carried away. Far from it.

In fact, in the immediate aftermath of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup victory against Tottenham, Howe was already looking ahead to the weekend trip to the London Stadium.

Expect that need to keep building to be the main theme of this morning’s news conference as 12th-placed Newcastle look to climb the table.

Newcastle have not won an away game in the Premier League since April and the visitors will be desperate to end that wait on Sunday against a struggling West Ham side.

Howe has a number of welcome selection dilemmas for the game, after making eight changes midweek, and he is sure to offer the latest on how close Lewis Hall and Yoane Wissa are to returning to the match day squad to further bolster the squad following the pair's respective lay-offs.

  5. Back-to-back wins would be 'huge for us'published at 10:38 GMT 31 October

West Ham v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on the chance to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League - the Magpies are 12th in the table, five points outside the top four: "It would be huge for us and I think it is only with back-to-back wins, if you look at the league table, that we are going to propel ourselves back up.

"It's so tight. There are a lot of teams congested around where we are and you are looking for one positive result to try and elevate you. So this is a big game for us.

"All games in the Premier League are important, but as we go to the next international break the next two [at West Ham and Brentford] are huge."

  6. 'We have a job to do' against former player Callum Wilson - Howepublished at 10:36 GMT 31 October

West Ham v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

More from Eddie Howe on facing former player Callum Wilson, who moved to West Ham on a free transfer in the summer after being released by Newcastle at the end of last season: "It would be great to see Callum, but most importantly we have a job to do against him. I have said many times how good I think he is. His qualities as a player are undoubted. Our defenders and our whole team need to be concentrated against him because just one lapse in concentration and he will punish you.

"I look forward to seeing him and embracing him after the game but it's about work and trying to stop him."

  7. Newcastle's stuttering away form vs West Ham's losing start at homepublished at 10:33 GMT 31 October

West Ham v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle travel to struggling West Ham on the back of three consecutive wins at St James' Park in all competitions.

Away from home, however, Eddie Howe's side have found it more difficult.

The Magpies are yet to pick up a win from their four away matches in the Premier League, losing 2-1 in their last league match at Brighton after three consecutive goalless draws at Bournemouth, Leeds and Aston Villa.

You would imagine, though, that something has to give at the London Stadium on Sunday.

West Ham have lost all four of their home league fixtures so far this season - against Chelsea (1-5), Tottenham (0-3), Crystal Palace (1-2) and Brentford (0-2).

  8. 'Consistency and long-term success' key for Woltemadepublished at 10:26 GMT 31 October

West Ham v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Eddie Howe on the fact Nick Woltemade's four Premier League goals are more than any other high-profile striker signed by Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window: "We are really pleased with Nick. On and off the pitch he has been first class. The way he has conducted himself, the way he has handled the move, the way he has embraced his team-mates.

"His team ethics are excellent. He's got an ability to score goals, an ability to be in the right position. Technically he's very good.

"We still have to bring out more in his game and help him in any way we can, but the early signs are really positive.

"His challenge is consistency and long-term success because teams will obviously work out plans for him and he's got to continue to find a way to score goals."

  9. 'The squad agreed Welbeck can play for England'published at 10:20 GMT 31 October

Brighton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on Danny Welbeck's England hopes: "I just asked the question to the squad whether Danny Welbeck can play for England and they all agreed [he can]. That was the only time we've mentioned it. Let's see what happens.

"I'm very convinced for my players and I have a big belief that Danny will be able to play for England but I always try to emphasise that England has a great coach and he will make the right decisions. Let's see."

  10. 'Rutter's capable of more'published at 10:16 GMT 31 October

Brighton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on Georginio Rutter: "I see a significant improvement but I see more potential in him. He's capable of doing more decision-making actions on the pitch, if it isn't scoring goals it's about always being present, staying alive all the time and being a good hard worker against the ball but we can all agree he's made really good developments."

  11. 'Don't be lazy' against Leedspublished at 10:15 GMT 31 October

Brighton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on needing a positive reaction after Arsenal defeat: "It's always important, results always lift the mood, atmosphere and energy but the only thing we can do is believe in the things we can influence on the pitch. Tomorrow will be hard work because Leeds, they are really hard-working, we have to do the basic things right, commit to each other and do the basic things.

"But the main thing is to do the hard work, do the hard work and don't be lazy. That's the main thing so then let's see how it goes tomorrow."

  12. 'The league is more competitive and equal'published at 10:06 GMT 31 October

Brighton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on Leeds' positive season so far: "For me it's not a surprise, if you saw Leeds playing last season in the Championship it was already impressive. Then of course they have added new players - everyone who has been promoted this season has spent good money, especially like Sunderland so, they're all doing well which means the league is getting more and more competitive and equal.

"Just look at the table to see how close it is - a sign that the league is getting more and more competitive."

  13. 'We have the right characters to get results'published at 10:03 GMT 31 October

Brighton v Leeds (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on needing a win this weekend: "Every game is important. It's very important to not start now focusing on results [because] you lose the progress. Of course in the end it's about winning and we try to win every game but, on the other side, it's about being there and focused on the small margins because if you focus on things you can't control, the results won't come.

"I'm 100 per cent convinced that we have the right characters, the right personalities, the right quality in our group to get results."

  15. Slot on Aston Villa's recent turnaround in formpublished at 09:58 GMT 31 October

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sat, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was asked about Aston Villa being an example of how quickly things turn around from negative to positive: "It is also a sign to show that is better to do it the way they did it than we did. If you don't win in the beginning people will say they don't have the same team as last season or whatever but then they start to win and everything is very positive again. With us, I think it is exactly the opposite.

"We are both on the same points and apart from Arsenal I think many teams are in and around the same points so again it tells you how hard the Premier League is.

"Aston Villa have done very well in the last five, six, seven games but that doesn't come as a surprise because even in the games they had lost before - you could see the signs that they were a very good team and their playing style very good.

"Normally although with us the run is already quite long, you don't every time lose a game of football when you create more chances than the other team.

"They decided not to make a habit out of that and let's hope we decide to not make a habit of having more chances than our opponent and not winning."

Arne Slot sees no reason to change Liverpool's playing style, so what do you think is the issue with the Reds? Will Slot turn it around?

  17. 'I do not see a reason to change our playing style'published at 09:51 GMT 31 October

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sat, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on whether it is important to now build from the back rather than focus on attack: "It does go against my beliefs but I have won games in the past, like Man City away, that went against my beliefs but it was necessary to play it like that over there in the second half. I would be more than open to adapt in certain situations but I don't think the story is that we conceded chance after chance or that we are too open - every single game maybe apart from Palace and Brentford - all the other games we deserved much more than we got and we hardly conceded a chance.

"Even with the team this week which played for the first time together, I think they only conceded three big chances but unfortunately they all went in. But that's because they were big chances, not chances, they were big chances.

"I don't see a reason to change our playing style completely but we need to do better in not conceding goals that for sure."

  18. Slot on whether City and Villa's style will suit his side morepublished at 09:50 GMT 31 October

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sat, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on facing an Aston Villa and Man City side who are less likely to play long balls: "They are also very good at that. Chelsea played their own game against us, they brought the ball out from the back and we didn't win that one as well.

"When people ask me after the game 'why was it difficult?' I try and explain why it was difficult and I answer that - people don't ask me why I come up with excuses and then I give an answer. I tried to explain for the first time after Man Utd because the games before that I felt it would be stupid to say so because I'm not 100% sure if everybody is already noticing what we are seeing. Then I underestimate a lot of analysts throughout the country.

"But if it happens after the 10th game and nine of them were so much focus on long balls, I think it is fair for me to say that without opening the eyes of upcoming opponents.

"These two teams we face now indeed bring the ball out from the back more but they are also very good at it. City are a high-pressing team that are really good at high-pressing but I did see Villa being able to play through that multiple times. And if I am 100% correct, they won the game by a set-piece. So, again, another time the importance of a set-piece."

  19. 'The quality of players we have gives me confidence'published at 09:48 GMT 31 October

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sat, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on the performance against Brentford: "For 60 minutes, yes. Thirty-minutes was ok. The first half against Crystal Palace was also similar to that 60 minutes I was talking about.

"The thing that gives me the most confidence is the quality of the players that we have. And, the amount of chances these players are still creating.

"This will eventually always lead to these players scoring more goals than we have done until now.

"If I am speaking about what we have to improve, people will say I'm using excuses so maybe now it is better to just say we need to address certain things to do better. But, there are a lot of positives to go into this week as well. Quality of the players is the first and foremost and the amount of chances we create from open play is still good enough to compete for the competitions we want to compete for."

  20. 'My focus is on getting a very good performance on Saturday'published at 09:45 GMT 31 October

Liverpool v Aston Villa (Sat, 20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot on how much he is learning about himself during this current bad run: "Maybe learning comes a little bit later because now you are mainly focussed on how you can change and you always evaluate the decisions that you have made and the choices that you have made.

"My focus now is not so much looking back on what has happened and more on how we can get a very good performance on Saturday. Maybe the learning part will come a little bit later but for now, the focus is on the future and how we can get a good result or at least a good performance against Aston Villa because normally a good performance from these quality players leads to a good result."
