Summary

  1. Transfer window 'could have been much better'published at 14:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Everton v Bournemouth (Sat, 15:00 GMT)

    Everton

David Moyes has had a positive impact on Everton since taking over from Sean Dyche.

Here's what the Toffees boss had to say on the club's January transfer window business.

“It could have been much better but everyone connected with Everton is aware of our situation," said Moyes.

"We’re feeling much better. In the future there’s a greater chance we could be more competitive in the market. We’d have liked to have done a bit more if we could have but either prices or availabity played it’s part."

On new addition Carlos Alcaraz: “He’s ready to play, he looks match fit but the biggest thing to do is get him used to group the players, getting him in and not under too much pressure, he’s got Premier League experience so the speed of the game shouldn’t shock him too much."

  2. Grealish absence 'not personal'published at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Leyton Orient v Man City (Sat, 12:15 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola also spoke about £100m Jack Grealish's lack of regular football.

"I'm so sorry they don't get the minutes that maybe they deserve but at the end, the contributions from Jeremy [Doku] or Savinho have been massive this season. This is the only reason why; it's not personal, or I don't like Jack, or I don't have confidence in him," he said.

"The manager has to sometimes select one player in front of another, not just because you don't like the other one, but because a player can give you in the certain moment of a season, right now better. No more than that.

"Of course I make mistakes and maybe he should play in other games, or maybe players who play shouldn't, but it's my world, my life, and you have to accept it."

  3. Lemina 'wanted to leave after problem with the club'published at 14:21 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Blackburn Rovers v Wolves (Sun, 12:30 GMT)

    Wolves

Wolves bossVitor Pereira spoke openly about the situation with former club captain Mario Lemina: "He told me that he wants to leave. I didn't feel the commitment from him since the day I arrived at the club. When that happens, it is better to finish the relationship.

"He said it is nothing about me, it is about the club - and that is OK with me. There is a problem with the club, but I don't know the problem.

"I want good energy inside the group. He is a very good player but, if his mind isn't here, I prefer him to make the decision to finish the relationship with the club. I want everybody to be with the club and with the targets."

  4. Emery 'very happy' with Rashfordpublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Aston Villa v Tottenham (Sun, 17:35 GMT)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has been speaking about January signing Marcus Rashford, who has joined on loan from Manchester United after being shut out of Ruben Amorim's squad.

"I'm very happy with him," said Emery.

"The conversation we had was very normal, speaking about football and what I want of him.

"I think his potential is still big. I don't want to know the reason he is leaving from Manchester United.

"I am very happy to have him here, to try to help him to recover his performances.

"My challenge with him is a huge challenge. His challenge as well with us is a very exciting challenge. I am very happy."

Leyton Orient v Man City (Sat, 12:15 GMT)

    Manchester City

On coming up against league One Leyton Orient tomorrow, Pep Guardiola said: "Yeah of course [they will bring trouble].

"Always we've had problems away in this competition, FA Cup or Carabao Cup, away to teams in the Championship or League One or even League Two.

"Always we struggle. But we are ready for the challenge. Every game is a new opportunity."

  6. 'Look to the politicians'published at 14:13 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Leyton Orient v Man City (Sat, 12:15 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was also asked about women's player Khadija Shaw and the racist abuse she has received in the past week.

"We would be lucky if this was just in world football. Unfortunately it's in the whole entire world," Guardiola said.

"Look to the politicians. What they say about this country is better than the other ones, or the other ones are not important, and all the people have to live [like this].

"Unfortunately it is all around the world, and football is another expression; not just for the fact that you are a woman, or you are a different skin colour and that makes you better - it's really more difficult for me to understand that people can defend these stupid things.

"I support her, like I support all people who receive abuse in terms of racism, gender."

  7. New signing Gonzalez 'really important'published at 14:09 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Leyton Orient v Man City (Sat, 12:15 GMT)

A young player, 23-years-old, can play number six and number eight, more in the pockets. Physicality - he's a strong young boy.

"I know him from the Barcelona academy and his father was working here. I'm really pleased from the effort of the club to bring him here for the next years."

Under UEFA rules, clubs playing in Europe can only register a maximum three new players into their knockout stage squad from their league phase roster.

"The decision we had to take yesterday and they are out - Andres Garcia and as well, Donyell Malen," he explained.

"It wasn't a good decision that I had to take but I spoke with Andres and I spoke with Donyell to tell them the decision."

  16. Rodri Champions League selection makes sensepublished at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Leyton Orient v Man City (Sat, 12:15 GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Pep Guardiola said last week Rodri was confident of being back from his cruciate injury before the end of the domestic season.

The Manchester City boss was more cautious, saying it was more important for the recovery to be right, than quick.

So, given Rodri was already in City's Champions League squad - and they could only name three of their four new signings anyway - it would be counter-productive to take the Ballon D'Or winner out.

If Rodri isn't fit, it hasn't made any difference. But if they took him out and he was, that would be ridiculous.

I am guessing Guardiola will be asked about it when he speaks to the media at 1400 ahead of the FA Cup trip to League One Leyton Orient.

I’m one of 7 siblings - 5 boys, 2 girls. Garden tennis ball cricket was a regular feature of our household. There was no better feeling than hitting the ball over the house for a 6, especially when one brother regularly proclaimed ‘he had the ball on a string’ and could ‘turn a marble on glass’ with his leg spin.

  18. From refugee to coach - Muslic plots Liverpool upsetpublished at 13:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

    Miron MuslicImage source, Rex Features

On Sunday, Miron Muslic will try to plot what many in football think is impossible - a win for his bottom-of-the-Championship Plymouth Argyle side against Premier League leaders Liverpool.

But compared to the story of Muslic's start in life, beating Liverpool seems relatively easy.

In 1992, as a nine-year-old, Muslic - who took over as Argyle head coach from legendary England striker Wayne Rooney last month - was forced to flee his home town of Bihac in Bosnia.

They got out just in time. In June 1992, just a month or two after the Muslic family left Bihac, it fell under a three-year siege by Serb-led forces during a bitter civil war.

"We had to leave Bosnia, and Bihac, our hometown, literally overnight, grabbing things you can grab with your hands," he told BBC Sport.

"That's where our journey, or our new life, started."

The Football News Show: Why injuries mean Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou deserves time

Former Tottenham, Blackburn and Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel has called for Tottenham to give more time to manager Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs were beaten 4-1 on aggregate in the EFL Cup semi-finals by Liverpool last night, but speaking to The Football News Show, Friedel called on Tottenham to give Postecoglou more time given the club's injury crisis.
