  1. Which Premier League manager has the shortest contract?published at 12:13 British Summer Time 12 September

Until that news, Arsenal's Mikel Arteta was in a three-way tie for the shortest contract among Premier League bosses.

The two bosses whose contracts are due to expire at the end of the season are Manchester City's Pep Guardiola and Everton's Sean Dyche.

They are in very different positions, with Guardiola having brought so much success to City, including a record four Premier League titles in a row.

Dyche, however, has been battling to keep Everton in the Premier league since he joined the club in January last year.

  2. Arsenal boss Arteta agrees new contract until 2027published at 12:08 British Summer Time 12 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

ICYMI, we reported earlier that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed a new three-year contract with the club.

The Spaniard was set to be out of contract at the end of the season but is now expected to stay until 2027.

The Gunners appointed Arteta, who had been working as a coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City at the time, to replace compatriot Unai Emery as boss in December 2019.

He led Arsenal to victory in the FA Cup final at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign to claim his first major trophy as a manager.

Arteta's new deal is expected to be confirmed before Sunday's north London derby at Tottenham.

I have no doubts that if Mikel Arteta puts [Ethan Nwaneri] in the starting XI or even during the game, it's because he's seen that he's good enough to make an impact.

Obviously, the consequences of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard being out helps to make [Nwaneri's introduction to the first team] a little bit faster than maybe what he would have liked, but definitely that means that he's on his mind. If he's part of the squad, it's because he really believe that he can bring something to the table.

    Cesc Fabregas
Former Spain midfielder on the Planet Premier League podcast

On playing in his first north London derby as a 17-year-old (a 5-4 win for Arsenal at Tottenham in November 2004): "I have always been very, very confident in my ability. I always say that I was super lucky to be able to grow in the environment of the Invincibles.

"I mean, playing with Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg. I think Patrick Vieira was next to me in midfield. [There was] Lauren, Ashley Cole, Sol Campbell - it was a proper, proper team and there was this little baby just in the middle, which helps. I promise you, it helps so much in terms of confidence because you could make a mistake but they could solve it."

Former England and Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson on Arsenal's fixture list: "I don't think it's been kind, to have your first three away games at Villa, Tottenham and Manchester City. It's harsh. You don't want to give Man City a headstart. These are two big games coming up.

"A couple of weeks ago against Brighton, 1-1 was disappointing result in the end. It hasn't been the worst start but these are big matches now, the next two. [Arsenal] need at least four points, otherwise they're going to be playing catch-up against probably the best team to ever play the game."

Former England and Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson spoke about the north London derby on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It will be tough. I mean, this game is a big game - four games in or even if it is a pre-season friendly - it is a huge football match in north London. I was very bullish last year with Arsenal about winning. I'm not sure this Sunday, I think Tottenham have got every chance this Sunday.

"I'm really worried, if I'm being honest. So I've got to concentrate on dancing [for Strictly Come Dancing], for a week of dancing practice, and in the back of my mind I'm thinking Tottenham might get a result. That will not be good."

  7. WSL: What have been the biggest moves of the summer so far?published at 11:30 British Summer Time 12 September

This summer has been a busy window for all of the Women's Super League clubs but there are some deals which stand out:

    • Rosa Kafaji joining Arsenal from Hacken. She is a bright talent and wants to "keep growing" with the Gunners.
    • Bruna Vilamala signing for Brighton, who have had a really good window, from Barcelona.
    • Lucy Bronze returning to the WSL but this time with Chelsea on a free from Barca. The Blues will be hoping her Champions League experience finally helps them become European champions.
    • Chantelle Swaby signing for Leicester is a huge move with the Jamaican star an impressive player in the defensive line.

The biggest departures from a WSL club have come from Manchester United. Captain Katie Zelem and goalkeeper Mary Earps have both left the club, they were influential figures in the team.

That isn't to say other sides have not lost stars. Players like Fran Kirby have left Chelsea while Vivianne Miedema has departed Arsenal for Manchester City.

  8. Wolfsburg's Stroot does u-turnpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 12 September

BBC Sport senior women's football reporter

Wolfsburg Women’s manager Tommy Stroot has signed a new deal despite the club announcing he would leave at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Stroot, 35, initially rejected the club’s offer to extend his contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2025.

The German manager joined Wolfsburg in 2021 and led them to the Women’s Champions League final in 2023.

He has overseen more than 100 matches and earned his Uefa Pro Licence earlier this year.

Liverpool have triggered a clause in Yana Daniels' contract to keep her at the club, though the length of the deal has not been disclosed.

The Belgium forward re-joined Liverpool in 2021 after already competing for the club in the 2018/19 season.

She said: “I’m really pleased. I’ve been here a few years now, so this really feels like home. It’s nice to extend."

  10. WSL transfer Q&A: What are Palace's chances of staying up?published at 11:16 British Summer Time 12 September

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport senior women's football reporter

Jamie: Crystal Palace have been busy in the transfer window ahead of their debut WSL season. How do you rate their chances of staying up?

Emma: They have and I believe they have managed to add a couple more in the final week of the transfer window so we're waiting to see who those players are.

I think they have recruited strongly but the jump up from the Women’s Championship to the WSL is huge and we've seen newly-promoted clubs struggle in recent years.

It will be difficult but I think Palace could have enough to finish above West Ham if they get off to a good start and can settle quickly.

  11. Shimizu has surgery on ACLpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 12 September

Manchester City's Risa Shimizu has had surgery on a torn ACL she suffered in an Olympic match.

Shimizu was playing for Japan in the Games this summer when she ruptured her ACL against Spain.

She is now rehabbing the injury at the WSL club.

  12. WSL transfer Q&A: Will Walsh go to Arsenal or Chelsea - or neither?published at 11:08 British Summer Time 12 September

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport senior women's football reporter

Beth: What's the latest on Keira Walsh?

Emma: Keira Walsh has a year remaining on her contract at Barcelona and has already informed the club she does not intend to extend because she is keen to return home for personal reasons.

That means Barca will either lose her on a free in 12 months' time or they could cash in on her this summer with several clubs interested.

Arsenal have a longstanding interest, while Chelsea are in the market for a midfielder and would have the funds.

The problem is that Barcelona do not want to sell. They are not prepared to name a price - though there's a general consensus that it would have to be a world-record fee should they consider any offer. We're at a bit of a stand-off, basically.

It was a Spanish bank holiday on Wednesday and Barca have a league game against Real Socieded at 19:00 BST on Friday evening, a few hours before the WSL transfer deadline - so the window for any business is small!

We will have to wait and see.

  13. What sanctions could Bentancur face?published at 11:01 British Summer Time 12 September

More on the news that Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been charged by the FA for using a racial slur about team-mate Son Heung-min.

In terms of a length of ban, FA laws say, external "match-based sanctions of 6-12 games will be recommended to regulatory commissions for almost all acts of discrimination by individual participants".

Bentancur has until next Thursday to respond to the charge.

  14. WSL transfer Q&A: Could Bonmati join the WSL?published at 10:58 British Summer Time 12 September

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport senior women's football reporter

Jake: Do you think Aitana Bonmati’s future lies in the WSL or Spain?

Emma: We reported last week that Aitana Bonmati is close to signing a new contract with Barcelona, one which will likely make her the highest-paid female player in the world.

She has come through the club's academy and lives and breathes Barcelona. Both parties always wanted her to stay beyond her current deal, which expires next summer.

That's not to say she won't come to the WSL in the future. She has often challenged the Spanish league to continue developing and enjoys watching the competition in the WSL.

West Ham have signed Finland international Oona Siren from LSK Kvinner on a two-year deal.

The midfielder made 19 appearances in the Norwegian top-flight for previous club LSK Kvinner, providing four assists.

The 23-year-old becomes manager Rehanne Skinner’s eighth signing of the summer.

Siren has also played for Finnish top division sides Tikkurila Palloseura and Kuopio Palloseura and played in the Women’s Champions League qualifying rounds.

  16. WSL transfer Q&A: What's happening at Man Utd?published at 10:48 British Summer Time 12 September

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport senior women's football reporter

Phil: Is Ella Toone going to be tempted elsewhere (maybe not in this window). Big players continuing to leave United?

Emma: She signed a contract extension in November 2022 that keeps her at the club for another two years so that suggests she sees a long-term future at United.

She's also recently been named vice-captain. There will probably be interest when she comes towards the end of her deal next summer but we're a way off that yet.

Nic: Will Manchester United sign another goalkeeper?

Emma: That is their priority. They want three first-team goalkeepers and have two at the moment. They made Leicester City goalkeeper Lize Kop their main target but after several attempts, they eventually had to walk away. Leicester made it clear she was not for sale.

It means they have had to look elsewhere and so far, United have not made any progress.

Chelsea fan here, I will never fully understand PSR. We see clubs having points deductions for relatively minor infringements yet Chelsea manage to stay within the rules by selling two hotels between two companies both owned by the Club group. I can understand why fans of the punished clubs are angry. It will be interesting to see if City get punished and how severe the punishment will be. I don’t hold out much faith.

  19. Man City release Oasis-themed fourth kitpublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 12 September

    Manchester City

Manchester City have released their fourth shirt this season and it was an eagerly-awaited one for City fans as it was co-designed by Oasis star Noel Gallagher.

"Marking the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ iconic album Definitely Maybe, the special-edition kit draws inspiration from the album cover that defined a generation," said a club statement.

City have confirmed that the kit will only be worn in 'select European fixtures', the first of which being next week's Champions League opener against Inter Milan.

Gallagher added: "I loved City before anything. I was into City before I was into music - I was into City before I knew what music was.

"Definitely Maybe is what set us on our way. The record lasting as long [as it has]? You can’t predict that kind of thing. It’s a great working class, Mancunian record – it’s real.

"People say that thing of, if you walked up to your 16-year-old self and said, 'in 40 years you'll be designing kits for the team', you'd be like 'what?'

"When Puma approached us at one of the games about designing a kit, it took about five seconds to agree to it. It’s the same colour palette as the cover of Definitely Maybe: it’s unique but it’s definitely striking, and I think it looks great.

"When you see people representing your club - it’s important that they look good."

He is around us in the training ground, he is doing his rehab already and I think he will be coming back quite fast ."
