Brighton v Ipswich Town (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler on what he did during the international break following a positive start to his tenure: "For me it was time to reflect, to re-analyse the first few weeks. I think it is very important to reflect yourself, to reflect what is going good so far and where we can improve. That was the first thing I did.

"The second thing was to plan the next phase and the next week because now we have a lot of games in the next period of time. We have a lot of home games so we want to use this chance.

"For me it was more reflection and planning. Of course, I also had one or two minutes for myself."

The Seagulls are joint-third in the Premier League having taken seven points from their opening three games.

  2. 'International break was chance to get players back from injury'published at 10:10 British Summer Time 12 September

Brighton v Ipswich Town (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Back to Fabian Hurzeler now, and on the international break the Brighton boss added: "In the end you have to find the best solutions for this break. It was our chance to get some players back from injury, to get some players back integrated in our squad and, of course, I think for us the international break was also good because a lot of players played.

"They collected a lot of game time. We had a lot of good, good things in the international break. In the end, in my opinion, we used it quite good."

  3. Bentancur charge in relation to Son commentpublished at 10:06 British Summer Time 12 September

    Tottenham Hotspur

Rodrigo Bentancur's charge is in relation to a comment he made about Tottenham team-mate Son Heung-min during a Uruguayan television interview in June.

The Uruguay midfielder, 27, was asked by host Rafa Cotelo for a Spurs player's shirt and replied: "Sonny's? It could be Sonny's cousin too as they all look the same."

After backlash to the clip, which was circulated on social media, Bentancur apologised to the South Korea international on Instagram.

"Sonny brother," he wrote. "I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke.

"You know I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else! I love you, brother!"

Solly March is not close to returning. The winger is back in training but Hurzeler does not want to rush him back, while Mats Wieffer is not quite ready to return.

Hurzeler added that Turkey international Ferdi Kadioglu could make his debut this weekend and confirmed that defender Joel Veltman is available.

"Serie A in Italy is famous for tactics and the Premier League is faster and more intense. There are less fouls than in Italy and this makes the game more fast and more transitional."

On the Premier League: "For a defender, it is better in the Premier League. It is the best league in the world and the intensity is very high. There is more physical work and it is tough to play, but you enjoy the football and you see the passion from the people and the fans."

No fan actually understands all of the complexities in the PSR but this makes it look like it’s 1 rule for big clubs and 1 rule for others. Forest were deducted points for losing £34.5m more than allowed but Utd can seemingly lose more with no punishment.

  12. Arteta steers Gunners back in right directionpublished at 09:15 British Summer Time 12 September

Mikel Arteta has won 139 of his 235 games as Arsenal manager, leaving him with an average of 1.97 points per game and a win ratio of 59.15%.

That's even better than Arsene Wenger (57.25%), although the legendary Gunners boss maintained that record over a 22-year period up to 2018, winning three Premier League titles along the way.

Under Arteta, Arsenal have so far won the FA Cup once and lifted the Community Shield twice.

Arsenal have successfully become a force again under manager Mikel Arteta but a new three-year deal represents a firm backing that he is the man to end this club's more than 20-year wait for a Premier League title.

The whole machinery at Arsenal behind the scenes is behind both Arteta and sporting director Edu, who have found a way to be competitive against the Manchester City juggernaut, running them close to the title last season and missing out by just two points.

They also went close in the 2022-23 campaign but it is now time to take the final step.

After signing Raheem Sterling, Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori, the Gunners have again strengthened, although question marks remain over whether they should have signed a striker.

But this is a manager, squad and backroom staff seemingly now capable of winning the biggest titles in England and it is perhaps symbolic that a new deal comes before a north London derby against Tottenham on Sunday.

  14. Arteta's Arsenal recordpublished at 09:04 British Summer Time 12 September

During his time as Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has transformed the Gunners back into potential Premier League champions.

The Spaniard arrived in 2019, leaving his post as Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City, and won the FA Cup in his first season.

After back-to-back eighth-place finishes in the league, Arsenal came fifth in 2021-22 and have since cemented themselves as title contenders.

In the 2022-23 season they finished five points behind Man City and last term they closed the gap even further, finishing two points behind the champions.

Mikel Arteta has agreed a new three-year contract at Arsenal and ended any uncertainty around his future.

The 42-year-old is set to sign until 2027 having seen his previous deal run into the final year.

The Spaniard's new contract is expected to be announced before Sunday's north London derby.

  16. Ten Hag's Ugarte conundrumpublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 12 September

Southampton v Man Utd (Sat, 12:30 BST)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will speak to the media later.

He is bound to be asked about Cristiano Ronaldo's latest observations on his old club, specifically the perceived lack of ambition.

The fitness of left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrrell Malacia is also likely to come up. But perhaps more important is the fitness of Manuel Ugarte.

United committed £50.5m on the Uruguay midfielder and judging by Casemiro's first-half performance against Liverpool just before the international break, they really need him.

However, Ugarte did not play any pre-season games for Paris St-Germain before his move, did not train with United before leaving for international duty, and his club unhelpfully have a Saturday lunchtime trip to Southampton to prepare for.

A big decision is looming for Ten Hag.

  17. Man Utd top 2023-24 league attendances in Europepublished at 08:41 British Summer Time 12 September

As well as Manchester United's accounts being released on Wednesday, a Uefa report also revealed that United had the highest aggregate attendance in domestic league football of all European men's clubs during the 2023-24 season.

The 'European Club Talent and Competition Landscape report', being published on Thursday, has found that in league matches, their total attendance of 1,397,148 was the highest of all European teams at home.

That is despite United finishing eighth last season, their lowest finish in Premier League history.

German side Borussia Dortmund had the highest average attendance in home league matches, with 81,305 per Bundesliga match. Dortmund did play two fewer home league matches than clubs in England, Spain and Italy.

In all competitions, Dortmund had the highest total attendance of 1,951,745. That was helped by six home Champions League matches, with the Black and Yellows reaching the final of the competition last season, losing to Real Madrid.

United ranked third for home attendances in all competitions with a total of 1,834,291, while Italian outfit AC Milan were second, with an aggregate home attendance of 1,860,964.

  18. Gunners set to have three key midfielders out against Spurspublished at 08:31 British Summer Time 12 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

If Martin Odegaard is out for three weeks he would miss five games for Arsenal, including next Thursday's Champions League game away to Atalanta and their Premier League game at title rivals Manchester City on 22 September.

The Gunners will host Paris St-Germain in the Champions League on 1 October, just over three weeks after Odegaard picked up his injury while playing for Norway on Monday.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will also be without two other midfielders for Sunday's north London derby at Tottenham as Declan Rice is suspended while summer signing Mikel Merino is sidelined with a fractured shoulder.

Fellow summer signing Riccardo Calafiori is doubtful after the Italy defender was forced off during Friday's Nations League match against France with a calf problem, but striker Gabriel Jesus could soon be back in contention following a groin problem.

  19. Odegaard set for at least three weeks out with ankle injurypublished at 08:27 British Summer Time 12 September

Tottenham v Arsenal (Sun, 14:00 BST)

ICYMI, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is set to be out for at least three weeks with an ankle injury, according to Norway's team doctor.

Ola Sand said there is "probably no fracture" to Odegaard's left ankle, which he injured while playing for Norway on Monday, but added that an absence of less than three weeks would be "just a bonus".

Odegaard limped off during Norway's Nations League win over Austria and on Tuesday the 25-year-old midfielder returned to London, where he underwent an MRI scan.

Arsenal have said that manager Mikel Arteta will provide an update during his news conference on Friday, before Sunday's north London derby at Tottenham.

  20. PSR breach not expected by Man Utdpublished at 08:24 British Summer Time 12 September

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport's chief football news reporter

Manchester United have reported a net loss of £113.2m in the year to 30 June, their latest accounts show.

It follows losses of £28.7m in 2022-23 and £115.5m in 2021-22, and their latest figures take total losses over the past five years to over £370m.

Despite the results, United are not expected to breach the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules because not all spending goes against their calculations and clubs can claim allowances known as 'add backs'.

Under Premier League rules clubs cannot lose more than £105m over a three-year period and Everton and Nottingham Forest received points deductions for being in breach.

"The club remains committed to, and in compliance with, both the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules and Uefa's financial fair play regulations," said United chief executive Omar Berrada.

United's new financial figures cover a period when they finished eighth in the Premier League and finished bottom of their Champions League group, but won the FA Cup.
