Northern Ireland started as the stronger side and they took the opportunity to go 1-0 up after just four minutes. The ball was swung in from the corner by Jamie Donley and Ruairi McConville met it on his head to fire them into the lead.
As the game went on, both teams began to pick up a few more chances but neither could capitalise on them.
