Fulham will be wondering quite how they did not win this one after dominating the second half.
They will feel a tad hard done by having hit the crossbar, had another effort cleared off the line and then seeing Jordan Pickford produce a brilliant flying save to deny Tosin Adarabioyo in the second half.
However, Marco Silva's side had more than enough chances - and chances to create chances - that it ought not to have mattered.
This was the 10th league game in which Fulham have failed to score this season, more than any other side, and losing Raul Jimenez to what appeared to be a hamstring injury will not help them rectify their goal-scoring troubles.
But with the gap to the relegation zone now down to seven points, they need to show more ruthlessness in front or goal or risk a far nervier end to the season than it should be.

Marco Silva is now unbeaten in all of his five meetings with former club Everton as Fulham manager across all competitions.. In fact, since taking over Fulham in 2021, the Cottagers have played Everton more times without losing (five) than any other team.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has kept eight clean sheets in the Premier League this season, which is more than any other goalkeeper.
Fulham have drawn their first home league match of the season and it’s the latest into a Premier League season that they’ve recorded their first home draw of the campaign.
Despite having eight more away matches to play in the Premier League this season, Everton have already picked up more points on the road this season (17) than they did in each of their last two seasons (2021-22 - 10 points, 2022-23 – 15 points).

Everton dropped into the Premier League relegation zone despite clinging on for a hard-fought goalless draw at Fulham.
Despite the scoreline there was no shortage of goalmouth action at Craven Cottage with both sides hitting the woodwork and having efforts cleared off the line.
Were you at the match or did you follow it from elsewhere?
With just a couple of days remaining in the window, I am not too hopeful of any major transfer activity, but Fulham do have a knack for sniffing out last-minute deals.
Like many clubs, Fulham have put it on record that budgets are tight due to profit and sustainability restraints.
The big rumour that has rumbled on for some time is Brazil number six Andre from Fluminense, who we have supposedly tabled a £35m bid for. He would be a perfect Joao Palhinha replacement for when he inevitably leaves this summer. However, not much has developed in the past few weeks.
The area I would most like to see some investment in the short-term is on the wings. Thirty five-year-old Willian is our only real option down the left, and while he continues to defy his years, it is a pretty risky strategy.
We also seem to be linked with Chelsea striker Armando Broja on loan with an option to buy. Chelsea's valuation of him is insane, but if the club can barter the purchase price down, I would be interested in seeing how he fares for half a season.
If Broja does well, then maybe he will be worth the money. If he does not, then no commitment has been made.

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches again this season, against a variety of guests.
For this week's midweek games - on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - he takes on Chelsea fan Matthew Vaughn, director of new spy film Argylle.
Sutton's prediction: 1-1
Fulham went out of both cups in the space of four days last week, despite not playing badly in either game. But their goals have dried up of late and that is what has cost them.
It was Everton who were wasteful when these sides met at Goodison Park on the opening day of the season, and Marco Silva's side nicked the points.
This time, Everton are desperate - like Forest really - and Sean Dyche really needs a result, with his side just above the relegation zone.
This is a big game for the Toffees with tough fixtures against Tottenham and Manchester City coming up, but scoring goals is a problem for them too.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to start firing for Everton if they are going to start winning games, but this one smells a lot like a draw to me.
Vaughn's prediction: I love how unpredictable the Premier League is this season, no game seems to turn out the way you expect - which makes doing this a lot harder! 1-0

This is the 30th different league campaign in which they have met and Fulham are looking to complete the league double over Everton for the very first time.
Everton have lost just one of their past seven away league games against the Whites, having lost nine of 10 visits prior to this.
Only the current top two sides Liverpool (six) and Manchester City (seven) have won more Premier League away games this season than Everton, with the Toffees' five wins on the road this term one more than they managed in the previous two campaigns combined (four).
Andreas Pereira could make his 100th Premier League appearance in this match. No Fulham player has been involved in more league goals than him this season (five), while he has created more chances than any of his team-mates (40).
Against no side has Fulham's Raul Jimenez scored more Premier League goals than he has against Everton. However, all five of his goals came in his first five appearances against the Toffees, failing to score in his last two against them.
No keeper has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Jordan Pickford (seven), while the Whites have failed to score in a league-high nine different Premier League games this term.
Silva on injuries, transfers and fan supportpublished at 15:14 29 January

Werrda Ali, BBC Sport
Marco Silva has been speaking to the media today before Tuesday's Premier League match against Everton.
Here are the key lines from the news conference:
Silva says he understands fan frustrations after an FA Cup exit, adding: "We need them behind us. I understand why they were not in a good mood last Saturday and we fully understand. But we need them behind us and we know if they play their part as the 12th player then we are going to be stronger and make things harder for the Everton side."
On team news and availability, he said: "We're still assessing the players. We played two games, really emotional games, and it took a lot of energy from ourselves."
When asked about Harry Wilson and Adama Traore he said: "Unfortunately for us, he's [Wilson] going to be out for at least two or three weeks. Another player out is Traore, but it's nice to see him back out with his team-mates. Hopefully we will see him soon."
He wants to be positive against Everton: "The way I always prepare my team, we are always trying to be on the front foot. Our ambition is clear: to try to get three points."
However, he recognises they will pose a difficult challenge for the Whites: "We know what they are capable of. They will demand a very good night from ourselves. It's always tricky when you play a Sean Dyche team and away from home they have been one of the stronger sides."
He expects signing players to prove difficult, stating: "I don't want to talk about targets. Of course I sat with the board and they know what two positions we are looking for. It seems it will be really difficult until the end of the window. It's out of my control. I don't expect to let any players go, we are really short in terms of numbers and I'm not expecting big moves from ourselves. We want to reinforce our squad not to let players go."
Silva says he has felt the impact of Afcon, adding: "Not just Alex Iwobi but Calvin Bassey too. When they played against Arsenal at home the team was in a good moment. Bassey was at his best, more settled. Of course since Iwobi arrived he has been very important in our attacking line and can play many positions. They are two big misses for us. I cannot forget Fode Ballo-Toure even if he is not playing. When we have three players not available it is a big miss definitely."

We asked for your thoughts on Saturday's FA Cup game between Fulham and Newcastle.
Here are some of your views:
Fulham fans
Stephen: As I would imagine, many Fulham fans feel we always play well but we need that striker with a killer instinct to have the confidence and to take the chances. I have supported Fulham since the late 60s and my loyalty will always lie with them but sometimes they are frustrating to watch.
Ziya: Fulham have a problem in the final third. They had 14 shots against Newcastle but only two were on target. It is hard to win a football match with those stats. They should have looked for a proven striker in the January transfer window, but clearly being profitable is more important.
Alex: Fulham yet again making the same mistake. They are too slow and are not responding quickly enough when going behind. This could be a result of tiredness but hopefully we can just focus on the Premier League now.
Ron: Fulham were great up until they got to the 18-yard box. They would have scored a hatful if they had someone like Alexander Isak playing for them. I'm a lifelong Newcastle supporter but, giving credit where it is due, Fulham are nearly there. Stay with it.
Newcastle fans
Kate: Scrappy match. I would love to see more fluency in the play but all of the best teams win, irrespective of performances. It's great that we did that. Hopefully we can push on and find our spark, gaining confidence from this game.
Simon: Obviously I'm happy about the result, but I was disappointed with the overall performance. I thought we were often poor in our passing and had little control of the midfield. We will have to up our game against Aston Villa.
R Gray: After going two goals up, a little bit of swagger came into the team. Very good, close passing and coordination started to build greater confidence on the pitch. This is a team coming back to its 2023 potential.
Richard: I was hoping for a Lewis Miley goal to make it a hat-trick of Geordie goalscorers. It didn’t happen but the Toon made a solid professional job of this tie. When you aren’t playing at your best, this is exactly the way to rehabilitate yourself. Keep it simple and tight and compact in the right places. Our back four get my man of the match. They were solid and resilient.

Steve Sutcliffe, BBC Sport
Fulham had come into their FA Cup fourth round tie looking for a measure of redemption after bowing out of the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage on Wednesday.
However, any hopes of silverware and a trip to Wembley were effectively ended by a performance in which they came up short at both ends of the pitch.
A first-half injury to Harry Wilson hardly helped Marco Silva's much-changed side but they really ought to have turned some excellent possession and good positions into clear cut chances.
Instead, Rodrigo Muniz was often left isolated and by the time the hosts were throwing men forward without caution they were already two goals down.
While Silva and many of the match statistics will point towards his side being the dominant force, he will be privately aware of the need to strengthen in attacking areas if the club is to continue to progress under his charge.

Newcastle United have beaten a Premier League side in the FA Cup for the first time since January 2012, when they won 2-1 against Blackburn Rovers. The Magpies had lost their past seven games against Premier League sides in the competition, scoring only one goal.
Each of Fulham’s past four exits from the FA Cup have been to Premier League sides. The Cottagers have also been knocked out the competition in the fourth round in four of the last five seasons.
Newcastle United have won each of their past two away games in all competitions, both coming in the FA Cup. It’s the first time they have won successive away games since a run of the three victories between March and April 2023.
Sean Longstaff has scored four goals for Newcastle United in all competitions this season, his most in a single campaign for the club. This was his first goal in the FA Cup since netting for the Magpies away to Oxford United in February 2020.
Since the start of last season, defender Dan Burn is just one of three Newcastle United players to score in the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and now the FA Cup, alongside Alexander Isak and Sean Longstaff.
Fulham 0-2 Newcastle: What Silva saidpublished at 21:33 27 January
21:33 27 January
Fulham boss Marco Silva speaking to BBC Sport after the game: "That is football sometimes. You play well but the key moments were not clear for us and that is our fault. The chances that we did create, with the amount that we created, we should have been more ruthless.
"We arrived so many times in dangerous areas that we have to better decide the last action, the pass or the finish. We have to be stronger in both [of those] situations, on the set pieces and with our finishing."
On exiting two cup competitions in one week, following a Carabao Cup semi-final exit against Liverpool: "This is what happens. We have to be in the right mindset, which we were, if you want to be in the next round, but we lost.
"Congratulations to Newcastle. They played the best way they could tonight [and won]. We were the better team but, again, we were punished by the details.
"The fact we are not there [in the next round] is our fault. There is no reason for us to not go again stronger from these moments."
On Harry Wilson's injury: "We will see. It doesn't look good, but we have to wait for more time to know for sure. [It could be] hours or days, to do the exams and have the right feedback. It does not look good."
'Fulham made too many changes'published at 21:11 27 January

Former Scotland midfielder Don Hutchison on BBC Radio 5 Live: "Newcastle didn't even play well, but I think Fulham were just rocked and coming back off the Liverpool defeat.
"I think they made too many changes. Newcastle easily deserved their win. Marco Silva will be devastated with the nature of the defeat, conceding two goals from corners is upsetting at any time.
"Fulham's next game is against Everton at home. They have to go full strength. They have only got one win in five in the league, but they've got the strength to turn it around."

Newcastle booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a laboured victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
A controversial first-half goal from Sean Longstaff set the visitors on their way, with the midfielder sweeping a left-footed effort into the bottom right corner after the ball deflected into his path off the arm of teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
Dan Burn doubled Newcastle's lead just after the hour mark, lashing in from close range against his former employers when goalkeeper Marek Rodak could only parry Sven Botman's header.
At that point, Fulham looked the more likely to level against an unconvincing and seemingly weary Newcastle side.
Marco Silva's much-changed team were the more fluent throughout but, despite largely controlling possession, lacked a cutting edge in the final third.
Rodrigo Muniz's early effort, which was well saved by Magpies goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, accounted for one of their best moments, while substitute Raul Jimenez was unable to direct Kenny Tete's cross from the right on target from close range.
The draw for the next round of the competition will take place on Sunday.
Were you at the match or did you follow it from home?
What on earth is happening at Newcastle? I keep reading reports that they are about to sell half their team.
I feel sorry for Magpies boss Eddie Howe because of the uncertainty over the future of some of his key players, but I don't see things going well for him at Craven Cottage either.
Fulham are the kind of team who can turn it on at times, and they are going to throw everything they've got at Newcastle.
Justin's prediction: 0-0
Newcastle might need a second go at this, so 0-0 and Newcastle to win the replay.
Silva on reacting to semi-final defeat, 'being ready' and Newcastle cup tiepublished at 14:34 26 January
14:34 26 January
Marco Silva has been speaking to the media before the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday.
Here are the key lines from his news conference:
The Carabao Cup semi-final defeat by Liverpool was a tough blow to his players: "It took a lot out of ourselves, no doubt about it. If we had a different result, emotionally it would be different. Even if you have fatigue, when you have good results it can be behind you because emotion plays a big part."
On how his side respond: "It took many things from us but that cannot be an excuse. We gave everything in the game. Our mood wasn’t the best but we have had good conversations with the players. The best way for us to be [ourselves] again is [to] go well in the Newcastle match."
The semi-final has not adversely affected preparations for facing Eddie Howe's side: "We are going to be ready for the game. We will go to play the game and give our maximum and being at the Cottage is important. We will do our maximum to be ready."
He is hopeful that the Carabao Cup run gives them a boost: ""Firstly, we need to use what we did in that competition as a motivation and to be proud of it. Even if we did not reach the final, it was a great run for us. This needs to give us motivation and confidence that we are going in the
right direction. We need to fight in the next game with the same braveness as we did in the last one."
As a result, the FA Cup is an opportunity to keep their season alive: "The best way for us to get ourselves into those stages again [semi-finals] is
to do well in the FA Cup. This is the reality, the season has too far to go to
be over. We need to change the mindset and focus on the Newcastle match."
He wants to take advantage of the Magpies' recent struggles, particularly away from home: "The run is not the best for them. In the Premier League, these types of things can happen. They have enough quality to change it quickly."
Lack of transfer business 'all comes down to Financial Fair Play'published at 08:53 26 January
08:53 26 January
We've seen fewer deals at this stage of a January window than normal.
Simply put, clubs are having to work with what they’ve got. The financial regularities mean nobody wants to get any points deducted, so everybody must be sailing very close, unless there’s a bit of trading to do.
Generally you see one go and then things move around, but it’s heavily looking like just loan deals.
If you ask the bulk of managers if they would bring reinforcements in then they would. I don’t think there’s many who would say they wouldn’t take at least another player. It’s in everyone’s nature to do so. They may say they are not bothered out loud, but do you really believe it?
What can be done? Teams have players missing across the board and it’s a high number of injuries for this time of the season. But it all comes down to the Financial Fair Play regulations.
Would Nottingham Forest go and try and do a bit? Probably. We know Gary O’Neil at Wolves would love to do stuff, but he’s governed by what he can move around in order to bring in.
Then you have the bottom three. They have to strengthen wherever possible but their hands are also tied. It’s tough what they can get over the line.

Fulham have lost all four of their FA Cup matches against Newcastle United, with those coming between 1908 and 1961. They also conceded at least four goals in every defeat.
There has been an average of six goals per game scored in the previous FA Cup ties between Fulham and Newcastle (24 goals in four games). In the entire history of the FA Cup from the first round onwards, the only fixture that has seen more goals per game (minimum four matches) is Aston Villa v Wednesbury Old Athletic (8.8, 35 goals in four games in the 1880s).
Fulham reached the FA Cup fifth round last season, eliminating Sunderland in the fourth round. They have not progressed from the fourth round in consecutive seasons since doing so in three in a row between 2008-09 and 2010-11.
Newcastle United have lost their past seven FA Cup matches against Premier League opposition, all while as a top-flight side themselves. No top-tier team has ever lost eight consecutive FA Cup matches against fellow top-flight sides, with Liverpool (1932-46) and Charlton (1955-2003) also losing seven in a row.
Eddie Howe has never won an FA Cup match against a Premier League opponent in nine previous attempts (D1 L8), with this his first such match as Newcastle boss. The previous nine games were as Burnley manager (L2) and at Bournemouth (D1 L6).
