We asked for your thoughts after Newcastle beat Liverpool to win the 2025 Carabao Cup.

Here are some of your comments:

Krish: Wiped the floor with Liverpool and we just looked like we wanted it. We won the duels and second balls and I'm delighted for the fans. I've supported Newcastle for 33 years and my son has for one year. He'll never know the feeling of not winning something for so long.

Simon: This means so much to us as fans, to the city, players and staff. Brilliant performance. We played our game and nullified Liverpool's. The marking, the press, midfield and defence were all excellent. We see what it means to each of the players who played with real desire and passion. Eddie Howe and the staff deserve huge credit to how this team is developing and building.

Geff: Twenty-thousand three hundred and sixty-seven days of waiting are finally over. I cried because we won and my dad missed it by a few weeks. It was the greatest day of my life, by far.

Stevie: Newcastle played the perfect game - Liverpool didn't turn up.

Kenneth: Howay the lads! Well done Magpies. Credit due to Eddie Howe and all the players. Almost a one-way match. Liverpool outclassed...not an easy feat ...and in the history books too. The Angel of the North will be happy as well. Next stop Europe.

Steve: Every Newcastle player was brilliant and especially Dan Burn. A well-deserved victory and dominated the Premier League champs-to-be for at least 85 minutes.

Anthony: Outstanding from start to finish - everyone up for it.

  2. It's 'party Tyne' - Monday's back pages after historic cup winpublished at 07:50 GMT 17 March

The party might have started at Wembley but it will no count continue for days in Tyneside after Newcastle outplayed Liverpool to secure their first domestic trophy for 70 years.

Eddie Howe's men put in a dominant performance to end the barren years and a run of nine successive Wembley defeats since they lifted the FA Cup seven decades ago.

And it will also mean a place in Europe next season, no matter their final league position.

Several of the national newspapers have featured captain Bruno Guimaraes on their back page, as he was in tears at full-time and overcome with emotion at leading the Magpies to a historic win.

  3. 'We put our names in the history of the club'published at 21:26 GMT 16 March

    Joelinton poses with the trophy

Newcastle's Joelinton, speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle's Matthew Raisbeck after winning the Carabao Cup:

"It's amazing. No words can describe how I feel. To celebrate with the fans - they deserve it so much.

"We deserve it because we work so hard. Too be able to break that long time without a trophy is an incredible feeling.

"We put our names in the history of the club and we go for more."

On Dan Burn: "I'm really pleased. Dan is a top guy and everyone loves him. He works so hard everyday and he's a Geordie, he's born there and loves the club.

"What history to be the guy who scored the first goal, man of the match, he's immense. He played so good and what a week it's been for him. I'm really happy for him to get the goal today, to get in the national team. He deserves everything because he's a top guy and works so hard."

No one ever plays well at Wembley.

That's what I was telling my friends just hours before Newcastle took on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

The Magpies subverted that with 99% of their performance against the Reds, Dan Burn's powerful header rewarding a dominant first half and Alexander Isak then doing what he does best.

Even if Federico Chiesa's late effort set up a tense finale, Newcastle were the better team on the day. To the corner we went with some classic Callum Wilson 'housery' and the job was done, after 10 minutes of agonising added time.

It's safe to say that in the sheer stress of seeing out those final stages, I've lost fingernails and possibly years from my life but at Newcastle United, we never make it easy.

Hopefully this can be the first domino that falls and success will continue to come to this club.

Seventy years of waiting and the clock has been reset.

We are Newcastle United and we are here to compete.

Newcastle goalscorer Dan Burn, speaking to Sky Sports: "I've had worse weeks. I don't want to go to sleep because I feel like I'm dreaming and it's all going to be a lie."

On his goal: "I knew Alexis [Mac Allister] wasn't looking at the ball and I'd be able to get a jump on him. I don't get many so I saved it for a big occasion.

"I feel sometimes I get around bodies and it's tough to get free.

"I feel strange, I feel numb at the minute."

On when he needs to report for England duty: "Tomorrow morning. I'll be first there tomorrow at 8 o'clock."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "We were well aware of the history and we wanted to do the club proud. We wanted to score, we wanted to perform and we wanted to win.

"We are breaking new ground, I thought we were magnificent today.

"We worked consistently for two weeks on set plays just for this game and if you had seen us in practice you would have said we had no chance.

"We couldn't believe Dan Burn scored - he didn't train like that! He was a colossus for us.

"I want to enjoy it first. I am always about tomorrow but I'll put the coaching books away for a few days.

"Both teams were quite direct and we dealt with that really well. Nobody wanted to make a mistake, there wasn't much pretty football played but we were effective in both boxes.

"We didn't want to show our hand when we played them a few weeks ago, we still wanted to win that game we just did it in a different way."

  7. 'They will always be remembered for this'published at 19:17 GMT 16 March

Isaac Hayden, on loan at Portsmouth from Newcastle, on BBC Radio 5 Live:

"Eddie Howe is one of the hardest working managers I have seen. It's a credit to him and he fully deserves it. He is going to be talked about in the upper echelons of Newcastle managers."

"To see the transformation [at Newcastle] from when I first joined. We didn't even have ice baths, to now, it's amazing.

"Joelinton was the best player on the park."

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given on Sky Sports:

"That last 10 minutes of extra time, I was going through it. I was getting emotional myself, seeing the faces of the fans and the players. We have waited so long for a trophy, any trophy.

"There is a statue at St James' Park of Bobby Robson, maybe they will build one of Eddie Howe."

Former Newcastle striker Les Ferdinand on Sky Sports:

"I am so, so happy for these supporters to go home and celebrate. They deserve it, just look at them."

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports:

"Newcastle didn't just win today, they battered Liverpool. They they have wiped the floor with them today.

"No matter what happens next with Newcastle, they will always be remembered for this."
