Ange Postecoglou, Manager of Tottenham Hotspur, acknowlegdes the fans after the Premier League match between Manchester United FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC at Old TraffordImage source, Getty Images

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to BBC Match of the Day following today's victory: "I thought it was an outstanding performance. We started the game well, scored a great goal and probably should have had two or three. The pressure then overwhelms them and they get the red card. After that I thought we controlled the game well. Just an outstanding effort from all the lads."

Disappointed not to get more goals? "I don't know about frustrated but I am only human. More for the players themselves. We played some unbelievable football and you want them to get the rewards."

On the red card: "I think it was a consequence of how we were going in the game, just putting enormous pressure on them. The amount of chances that we were creating, we weren't letting them get out of their half. It was a strong all-round performance."

On getting early goals in games: "Every game you always want to start well but it doesn't always happen. I told the boys that in the last two games we conceded in the first 20 seconds against Brentford and then had a man sent off in the first eight minutes, so it is about dealing with that you have out there.

"That is our fourth win in row and we have won them in different ways, but always stayed true to our principals and the way we want to play football."

On building momentum: "It helps. I think our performances in the league have been strong all year but we haven't had that cutting edge. Our performances have been good but when you get the wins too that is important, you want the players to think they are getting the rewards for their efforts."

Dejan Kulusevski of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates scoring his team's second goal during the Premier League match between Manchester United FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC at Old TraffordImage source, Getty Images

Dejan Kulusevski created nine chances for Tottenham in this match, the most on record (since 2003-04) by a visiting player in a Premier League game at Old Trafford.

  3. Sutton's predictions: Man Utd v Tottenhampublished at 11:15 29 September

Chris Sutton and Maximo Park singer Paul Smith

Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches this season, against a variety of guests.

For week six, he takes on Maximo Park singer Paul Smith, whose latest album, Stream Of Life, is out on Friday.

Man Utd host Tottenham at 16:30 on Sunday.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-1

My first thought was that I fancy Manchester United to win this but, the more I think about it, the less likely that seems.

United made heavy weather of their Europa League draw with FC Twente on Wednesday, with a performance that was very uninspiring.

Mind you, we need to see more from Spurs in the final third too, so I am going to stick with my instincts and go for a United win. Let me explain why.

In my opinion, United cannot beat Spurs by going toe-to-toe with them, but there is an argument that Tottenham's playing style will suit Erik ten Hag, because it is in these sort of games where Ten Hag's counter-attack football works best.

I am not exactly confident they will beat Spurs though.

What worries me most about tipping United is what happens in the centre of the park. Are United going to rely on Christian Eriksen again, against his former club. A great player, but does he have the legs?

Paul's prediction: You could easily make an argument for both teams but Spurs are away so it will be more difficult for them, because Old Trafford does make a difference.

Both teams will think they can win it, so it would be crazy for me to go for another 2-2 draw... and yet I feel like someone will be 2-1 up going into the last 10 minutes or something and then the other team will get that final big chance to score. So I am going to go for that draw! 2-2.

Earlier, we asked you for the four players other than Harry Kane who have scored more than 90 Premier League goals for Tottenham.

Son Heung-min has passed a century of Premier League goals for Spurs, while Teddy Sheringham, Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane were just short of three figures for the club.

  5. Postecoglou on Son's fitness, pride for Gray and being 'ready' for Man Utdpublished at 14:43 27 September

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game at Manchester United (kick-off 16:30 BST).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

    • He said it is "still early days" following Thursday's Europa League game, so was unable to give a full fitness update.

    • Club captain Son Heung-min, who had to be substituted against Qarabag, "wants to train" on Saturday and Postecoglou added: "We've got another day up our sleeve to give him every chance."

    • He said goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario "rose to the occasion" after wearing the captain's armband on Thursday and "is a great example for everyone".

    • On Archie Gray and where he sees him in terms of positioning: "I see him in a Tottenham shirt and playing great football. He will be a significant contributor for us and I was really proud of the way he handled last night."

    • He said he is "really keen" to "expose" Lucas Bergvall to European football and added: "He will get plenty of chances to play." The teenager was forced to make way for Destiny Udogie when Radu Dragusin was dismissed on Thursday.

    • On the European performance: "I was great to see the lads persevere playing our football even though we were a man down."

    • He said Old Trafford is always "a tough" place to go but it is a challenge Spurs "will be ready for".

  6. 'Tired' Son a concern for Tottenham?published at 11:18 27 September

Immediately after Tottenham's 3-0 win over Qarabag in the Europa League, manager Ange Postecoglou played down injury concerns around Son Heung-min - without ruling them out.

The 32-year-old Spurs captain needed treatment on the pitch before being substituted in the 71st minute, shortly after his shot was turned in by Dominic Solanke to seal victory.

He then walked off the pitch gingerly before being replaced by Timo Werner and, after the game, Postecoglou told BBC Sport: "He said he felt a bit tired but I haven't spoken to him or the medical team yet."

Archie Gray also appeared to pick up a knock to his ankle in the final moments of the match, but his manager again played down concerns after he made a run in the final minutes to cut out a Qarabag chance.

"He didn't stop running though, so it can't be that bad," he said.

Postecoglou was more assertive when denying goalscorer Brennan Johnson had picked up any kind of injury.

  7. Postecoglou's trust makes Gray more 'fearless'published at 11:18 27 September

    Archie GrayImage source, Getty Images

Tottenham's Archie Gray says Ange Postecoglou is helping him to "be fearless" and confident by putting so much trust in him.

The 18-year-old, who signed from Leeds this summer, made his European debut against Qarabag on Thursday and has been praised by Spurs fans for his solid performance at right-back.

Since signing, Postecoglou has spoke about the trust he has in Gray - despite his age - and how his versatility fits the Australian's style of inverted full-backs.

"I'm really grateful to have the manager we've got," said Gray. "I'm a big fan of him.

"I'm grateful to have him here and to learn so much off him, it's a big opportunity for me.

"To hear stuff like that from him, it makes you trust yourself even more and have more confidence to go out there and be fearless. That's what he wants from us and hopefully we can go out and do that every game we're trusted to be in."

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min has created more chances from open play than any other player in the Premier League this season (13).

Brennan Johnson celebrates scoring for Tottenham against QuarabagImage source, Getty Images

Brennan Johnson has impressively answered his critics after a period of receiving abuse on his social media accounts.

The 23-year-old forward deactivated his Instagram account early this season after going 12 goals without a game, including his eight final matches towards the end of 2023-24.

The nature of the abuse clearly affected the Wales international given some of the comments made by manager Ange Postecoglou in his defence, and his reaction to scoring at Coventry - his first in a run of three goals in three matches away.

Now, after scoring at home to Brentford and again in a key moment when Tottenham had just gone down to 10 men in the Europa League against Qarabag, Johnson is looking important, effective and confident again.

That was the 50th club goal of his career, spread across his time at Lincoln City, Nottingham Forest and Spurs, and now only Son Heung-min has scored more for the north Londoners since the start of last season.

Johnson is still a young player who just three years ago was playing for the Imps in League One, but his £50m price tag when joining Spurs has raised expectations to a perhaps unreasonable level in some quarters.

There were other positives for boss Postecoglou as his team dealt with their man disadvantage following Radu Dragusin's seventh-minute red card and dominated.

Pape Matar Sarr added a second goal just after half-time through a mistake by goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski and Dominic Solanke doubled his tally for the club.

Afterwards, Postecoglou praised the burgeoning partnership building between Johnson and Solanke, who linked well for the opener.

He said: "Brennan's been good at taking up those positions and him and Dom have a good little sort of relationship there in terms of working off each other."

New signing Archie Gray was brought in to play at right-back and did well. Lucas Bergvall looked heartbroken to be taken off in the 12th minute after the red card but Mikey Moore, 17, got another late cameo.

Qarabag missed chances of their own as Spurs remained a little open. Yves Bissouma gave away a penalty, but Toral Bayramov crashed his effort off the crossbar.

But a potential late injury to Son may thrust Johnson further into the spotlight when Spurs face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, although those concerns were played down by Postecoglou in his post-match comments.

We asked for your views after Tottenham started their Europa League campaign with a win against Azerbaijan Premier League side Qarabag.

Here are some of your comments:

Josh: We played very well given we had 10 men. Qarabag were shocking. Tottenham's finishing was amazing. Dominic Solanke's hold-up play and movement was great. Son Heung-min is slowly starting to lose it. Archie Gray was my man of the match - he was unbelievable.

Jeff: Lucky to win again. High percentage possession stats mean nothing, especially when the opposition constantly have more clear-cut chances than us. Vicario made several great saves. We really didn't deserve to win and a better team would have destroyed us - it was the same against Brentford on Saturday.

Lewis: Not the greatest performance, but then again neither was the Coventry game. The important thing is that we won. Besides, I've always said that you can never really learn anything about how a side perform when they play the majority of a game with 10 men. Improvement is needed but three goals, three points and a clean sheet... I'll take that every day.

Doug: A great confidence-building result. With Radu Dragusin going off so early in the game and six changes to the main team, I think we did really well. Defensively we gave the ball away too often and put pressure on ourselves. But, to compete on multiple fronts, we need to rotate the team and, as they get used to playing with each other, we will continue to get better.

Ash: It's quite clear from the starting line-up that Ange Postecoglou is taking this tournament seriously. Without the drop-downs from the Champions League, this is our best chance of silverware this season. That being said, improvement is required before we face a side that can finish their chances.

  12. What's with the dark arts?published at 07:58 27 September

There has been a lot of conversation this week about "dark arts" in football following the draw between Manchester City and Arsenal on Sunday.

Realistically, everyone who has watched football for longer than one game has seen things they would perceive as "dark arts"; whether it is a player always going down winning free-kicks to take the sting out of the game, kicking the ball into row Z when there was no multi-ball system or time-wasting on goal-kicks.

These are things we see all the time but our perception of it is dependent on the context of a game. You always see some version of it somewhere, and you hope your team would be doing the same thing if in the same situation - because why should you do something that would benefit the opposition you are against?

It is the same as going down a bit more easily to win penalties - some people will say "this guy is a cheat", but then on the other side of their mouth, if it is something that could benefit them, they say "he has tried too hard to stay up, he needed to go down there".

You can have rulings, Ifab can get involved to change this and that, but there will always be a way to push the rules to their limits.

What we saw with Arsenal in that game, where David Raya sat down to get some treatment while the teams gathered, we have seen those moments before. It is not just new to Arsenal - other teams do it.

It is always based on certain moments. You do get more frustrated if it happens against you, but when you need to do it, you encourage people to do it. That is one of the beauties of football - the way you see things is always going to be down to perception, context and just whether you think it is benefiting you or not.

  13. 'Reaction after red card was good'published at 23:18 26 September

Ange Postecoglou applauds after winImage source, Getty Images

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to TNT Sports about the early red card: "Not ideal. I wasn't happy as I felt we started really sloppy.

"We talked about starting with a high-tempo and it was almost like the delay got to us.

"We were passive in our passing and when that happens someone switches off.

"The reaction after that was good, but I'm not happy with the start."

On Lucas Bergvall being sacrificed: "That's football. He is 18 and he will get plenty more games. We needed an extra midfielder in there to make sure we had cover.

"An adjustment we needed to make - Lucas will get plenty of opportunities."

On Brennan Johnson's goal: "Brennan's was great.

"With 10 men we still pressed which is what we wanted to do.

"He has some confidence in him which is great - we need him!

"We knew if we win it [the ball] Brennan and Sonny [Son] would have the space.

"I wanted to get Dejan [Kulusevski] on as he runs hard and I felt we would need some legs in the second half, Brennan is fine."

On Pape Matar Sarr's goal: "I felt we needed a second. We worked hard on our set-pieces. It's great for Pape [Sarr] who I thought was great today.

"Pape took his goal well and that's his first 90 minutes for us this year and he played strong."

On Dominic Solanke: "He has been great for us Dom. He went through that long drought of two games without a goal!

"He has been fantastic for us not just goals, but his link-up plays. He is a typical striker.

"He is still working his way back to full fitness."

  14. 'It shows the spirit of the team'published at 23:09 26 September

Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke, speaking to TNT Sports: "Very happy to get the win, the boys fought hard.

"Going down to 10 men it could have been a difficult game, but we all stuck to the game-plan and it shows the spirit of the team."

On the delayed kick-off: "It was quite difficult to be fair. We prepped for a 20:00 kick-off, but we stayed ready. We could've had a better start, but we grew into the game.

"I can still get fitter. I had that injury at the start of the season which knocked my rhythm."

  15. Analysis: Tottenham 3-0 Qarabagpublished at 22:57 26 September

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport journalist

Archie Gray and Brennan Johnson celebrate for SpursImage source, Getty Images

Tottenham began their Europa League campaign with an entertaining victory against Azerbaijan side Qarabag, despite going down to 10 men in the first seven minutes.

There were plenty of positives for Ange Postecoglou. Not least a convincing win on their return to Europe after a year-long hiaitus.

Valuable minutes for his young players, a clean sheet despite being down to 10 men and confidence-boosting goals for summer signing Dominic Solanke as well as Brennan Johnson, who reportedly deactivated his Instagram account because of criticism received in the wake of his club's derby defeat to Arsenal earlier this month.

But Spurs' all-out attacking style often leaves them vulnerable to the counter-attack.

Qarabag must have wondered what else they needed to do to find the net as the wasteful Juninho had a goal ruled out for offside, Toral Bayramov went close several times and Vicario produced a brilliant save to deny Elvin Cafarquliyev's long-range strike.

The sight of Son Heung-min hobbling off in the second half could also be a concern as Spurs face Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, before a trip to Hungary to face Ferencvaros next week.
