Before England's Euro 2024 last-16 tie against Slovakia on Sunday, the BBC's chief football writer Phil McNulty has been answering readers' questions on all things Three Lions.
Robert asked: Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but looking at how Toni Kroos is the metronome for Germany, do you agree that James Maddison is the only type of player we have in England that could have given us that metronomic balance we sadly miss?
Phil answered: I can’t change my tune now because I thought Gareth Southgate made the right choices when he named his squad and Maddison did have a poor second half of the season at Tottenham after suffering an injury. Kobbie Mainoo did well but I think, in time, Adam Wharton might be best suited to being the sort of player you are talking about.

Managers will always outwardly support their players on the international stage, but you can be sure one or two will privately be hoping for an early exit from Euro 2024 for a few of their star men.
International tournament summers disrupt pre-season for managers.
Various players from different nations return to their clubs at different times, sometimes with injuries, holidays get postponed and rescheduled. As a general rule, the best players are more likely to play for the best nations and therefore go further in international tournaments.
The Euro 2024 final will take place on 14 July. Over half of Premier League clubs already have a pre-season fixture scheduled within 10 days of that.
Of English clubs, unsurprisingly, Premier League champions Manchester City have comfortably the most players in the Euro 2024 knockouts. The best represented Premier League side at the start of the competition have a full line-up of 11 stars still in Germany.
They are followed by the rest of last season's top three - Arsenal and Liverpool - who have eight and seven respectively. Manchester United also have seven while Brentford - aided by their healthy Danish contingent - have six and Crystal Palace five.
Championship play-off winners Southampton's three representatives were all eliminated at the group stage, while fellow newly promoted side Ipswich have not seen their summer impacted at all by players at Euro 2024.
Of the Championship-winning Leicester squad, goalkeeper Mads Hermansen and defenders Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard remain in Germany - as does Turkey's Yunus Akgun, who spent last season on loan with the Foxes.
This data was provided by Opta and counts the clubs where players finished at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Tottenham have announced the creation of an official supporters’ club for their dog-owning fans.
Spurs fans can now sign up for a Tottenham Hotspaw membership, one that the club say will "give access to a programme of special experiences for supporters and their dogs".
The membership includes the opportunity to take part in fundraising activities and events in support of All Dogs Matter – a charity that works for unwanted and abandoned dogs in London.
The club's first members are co-chair Leah Kreitzman and her Staffordshire bull terrier, Apollo.
"For many of us, there are no stronger bonds than the ones we have with our dogs and our football club – now we can bring these two things together with Tottenham Hotspaw," Kreitzman said.
We asked for your thoughts on which Euros players should be signed by Spurs this summer.
Here is a flavour of your suggestions:
Shaun: Arda Guler on loan from Real. What a player he is and will be!
JJ: Plenty of top young talent turned up at the euros but I'd have to go with Nico Williams. He would fill the boots of an ageing Sonny and give him a bit more space up top.
Ben: Nico Williams. Young and talented, incredibly quick and technical, so he has the perfect profile for an Ange system.
Jamie: I’ve been impressed by Slovakia generally. We need a back-up left-back and back-up centre-back this summer and David Hancko would kill two birds with one stone.
Jack: Could do a lot worse than Scott McTominay for about £35m.
Grant: I like the Austrian midfield pair of Christoph Baumgartner and Konrad Laimer who would improve our midfield.
As the Euros group stage comes to a close, how's your scouting report gone?
Who has caught your eye as a perfect signing for Tottenham?
And how would they fit into Ange Postecoglou's starting XI?

Montgomery will be one of the ex-Celtic manager's assistant coaches, as will Sergio Raimundo, who worked alongside Montgomery at Hibs before their departures in May.
"Both Nick and Sergio have a wealth of coaching experience over a number of years," said Postecoglou.
"They have already demonstrated a strong desire to both develop young talent and implement a football style that I believe will further strengthen the environment we have established. I'm looking forward to working with them."
Meanwhile, Matt Wells has been promoted to senior assistant coach, replacing Chris Davies.
Davies, who was Celtic assistant during Brendan Rodgers' first spell in charge, was recently appointed manager of League One Birmingham City.

The fixtures for the new Premier League season are out and we asked you for your predictions on where Tottenham will be after 10 games.
Here is a selection of your comments:
Jack: We will be in the top two. North London derby at home first is usually unseen for us, but I've high hopes that with a couple of new signings we will be great! New striker and a new back-up left-back and right-back, and a number six, we will be top three all season.
Shane: It's a tough start to the league - easier fixtures are away and home fixtures are against the big teams. With no significant investment, I expect us to be sitting about eighth with 15-20 points.
Brambles: It all depends on whether we get Ivan Toney or not. If we do, we'll be in the top four. If not, we'll be sixth.
Pugsey: An away start is best, in my opinion. A tough fixture, but I see Spurs taking three points. Then it's about laying down a mark in the sand and showing they're here to compete - and Ange will insist on that. Top four after 10 games, including a win over Arsenal!
Dan: After the first 10 games we will be in the top four, but we need to stop conceding early, focus on scoring first and holding the lead. If we can sign a proven goalscorer and make sure the defenders are showing heart and competing to make the starting XI, there is no reason why we can't be competing for the title this time.
Leicester midfielder Harry Winks says he is looking forward to facing his former club Tottenham in the Foxes' first match back in the top flight.
Winks played more than 200 matches for Spurs after coming through Tottenham's academy. After Tottenham visit King Power Stadium on 19 August, Winks' first return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is scheduled to happen in January.
"I'm buzzing to see the fixtures for the new season, and a home game against my former club Tottenham on the opening weekend is something I'm really looking forward to," Winks told Leicester's club website.
"The first game is always a big occasion, and we're aiming to set the tone for a successful season ahead. It's important to start strong and build momentum, and I believe we have the quality to do just that.
"We've got a great squad here and we're all eager to show what we're capable of right from the start," he added. "Last season was a really successful one for us, so it's vital we take that momentum into the new campaign and begin on a high note.
"Starting the season in front of our fans at King Power Stadium will also be special. They've been brilliant with me since I joined last summer and I can't wait to see them all again. They'll play a big part this year."
Leicester and Tottenham will open their Premier League campaigns with a meeting at King Power Stadium at 20:00 BST on Monday, 19 August.
In the most recent Premier League match between the two sides, Leicester won in February 2023 and they last won consecutive league games against Spurs in October 1999 [a run of three].
Of all Premier League fixtures to have been played at least 30 times, Leicester v Tottenham has the highest goals-per-game average of 3.8 [128 goals in 34 games]. In the past five meetings alone, there have been 28 goals at an average of 5.6 per game.
The Foxes are unbeaten on the past nine occasions they have started their league campaign with a home game (W6 D3). However, the past three times they have lost, they have been relegated at the end of the campaign - 3-1 v Newcastle in 1994-95 (Premier League), 5-0 v Bolton in 2001-02 (Premier League) and 1-0 v Blackpool in 2007-08 (Championship).
This is the seventh time Spurs are starting their Premier League campaign against a promoted side. They have won five of the previous six, losing the other 1-0 against Sunderland in 2007-08.
Now the fixtures for the new Premier League season are out, it is time to start looking ahead to your club's 2024-25 campaign and all the key matches.
So, where do you think Tottenham will be after the first 10 games?

On paper, Tottenham can be happy with facing promoted Leicester City, but early trips to those kinds of clubs can be difficult.
Leicester will be in party mode for the Monday evening televised kick-off at King Power Stadium, celebrating their recent return to the Premier League.
There is also the sub-text of midfielders James Maddison and Harry Winks facing their former clubs - but this will be a match Spurs are expected to win.
The north London side ended last season poorly and manager Ange Postecoglou will be keen to start well and change the mood.
He has already hinted at a big summer rebuild, which has yet to really get under way.
A first home game against Everton and a trip to Newcastle follow for Spurs, who will at least be aiming to qualify for the Champions League through a top-four finish.
