Q2 is green. How long will this session last?!

  2. Postpublished at 13:46 BST

Just another three minutes to wait until Q2 gets under way.

  3. Q2 start delayedpublished at 13:44 BST

There were three red flags in total in Q1 - this could be a long qualifying day. Both Alpine drivers are OK, but Pierre Gasly had come to a stop in the run-off area of Turn Four when Franco Colapinto smacked the barriers at the same corner with some force, leaving a trail of debris across the track. The start of Q2 will be delayed slightly so the marshals can fix the barriers.

Although that was a bit embarrassing for Franco Colapinto crashing in sympathy with his team-mate going off, he's actually outqualified Pierre Gasly, I think it's the third time in four races.

  5. 'Big impact for Colapinto'published at 13:40 BST

Both of the Alpines are off at Turn Four, a really big impact on the exit for Franco Colapinto. I think he was distracted by Pierre Gasly who was pulled off on the side.

  6. Out in Q1published at 13:38 BST

    16. Franco Colapinto (Alpine)

    17. Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber)

    18. Esteban Ocon (Haas)

    19. Pierre Gasly (Alpine)

    20. Alex Albon (Williams)

And the other Alpine of Franco Colapinto also took a hit - and that was a big one! He slams the side of his car into the wall while the yellow flag was out. Pierre Gasly was just up the road after his moment at Turn Four.

  8. red flag

    Red flagpublished at 13:35 BST

Pierre Gasly is off the track and a yellow flag comes out. It's now turned to red and that's ruined a couple of drivers' last laps.

  9. Norris to the toppublished at 13:34 BST

Sixth becomes seventh for Kimi Antonelli, as Lando Norris puts his McLaren to the top of the times.

Esteban Ocon drops into the bottom five and then quickly jumps out, pushing Isack Hadjar's Racing Bulls down the order. Can he make it through to Q2? Yes he can. The Frenchman goes P5.

  10. Antonelli goes P6published at 13:33 BST

Phew, Kimi Antonelli shoots up the order and into sixth place on the timesheets.

All eyes are on Kimi Antonelli now. He's the only driver who has yet to set a lap time in this opening session. Coming off the back of Toto Wolff's "underwhelming" comments after Monza, the rookie just needs to drag himself into Q2 and then reset. He's going for it on the medium compound.

  13. 'Your references are always changing'published at 13:31 BST

The corners are big braking zones here and it's easy to catch a front tyre and to end up going down the escape roads.

Your references are always changing with the light shifting throughout the day and the shadows moving, making your perception of the track a little bit different every time you go out.

  14. 'It's just going wrong for Antonelli'published at 13:30 BST

    Andrew Benson
    BBC F1 correspondent

This is a real shame for Kimi Antonelli because he came into this weekend after being criticised by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff for the first time really.

Until this qualifying session Antonelli has had a perfect weekend, he's looked quick, controlled and calm. Everything has seemed that well within the margins, but suddenly the pressure is on in qualifying and it's just going wrong for him.

  15. Postpublished at 13:29 BST

Toto Wolff is on the Mercedes team radio to Kimi Antonelli, calming the 19-year-old's nerves and telling him he has bags of time to set a lap in Q1. Still six minutes left, mate. "Just need a clean lap," says Wolff.

    Off we go again...

The session will resume shortly, so get in line, folks.

Oscar Piastri was very lucky to get his lap time in just before the red flag for Nico Hulkenberg was shown. The Australian, on the mediums, is second on the timesheets, just behind the Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton, who is leading the pack with a 1:41.821 on the softs.

That was an incident where Nico Hulkenberg needs to use his experience and realise that he could have bailed out of that. He just wanted to get the lap done but he's crawling back to the pits now in red flag conditions.

  19. red flag

    Red flagpublished at 13:23 BST

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli says he had "no brake" when he fumbled at Turn 16 and Pete Bonnington informs him the wind is also a factor out there. The Italian's lap time was deleted, so he's rock bottom of the timesheets.

  20. red flag

    Red flagpublished at 13:22 BST

Nico Hulkenberg is on the medium tyres now and as he exits Turn Three, he locks up and bumps his Sauber into the wall. The red flag has come out, as there is debris knocking around, but this shouldn't be too long of a delay.
